Death In Paradise returns to our screens in February, and the BBC have released plot and cast details.
Death In Paradise has been one of the BBC’s most successful dramas in recent years. Created by Robert Thorogood in 2011, the show’s thirteenth series is about to hit our screens. It has seen Ben Miller, Kris Marshall, Ardal O’Hanlon and current detective Ralf Little solve a remarkably high number of murders for such a small Caribbean island.
Last year, Marshall’s character Humphrey Goodman starred in spin-off Beyond Paradise, which paired him with Not Going Out star Sally Bretton and relocated the action to Cornwall. Proving popular with viewers, it recently returned for a Christmas special and a second series will be broadcast this year.
A further spin off, entitled Return to Paradise was announced last year, with action taking place in Australia.

Don Williams, who partnered with Andy Williams and their brothers, Dick and Bob, in a singing foursome that performed on the radio, in the movies and with Bing Crosby and Kay Thompson, has died. He was 100.
Williams died Friday of natural causes at his home in Branson, Missouri, his wife, Jeanne, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Born on Oct. 9, 1922, Don was the second oldest of the Wall Lake, Iowa-bred quartet. He and his brothers would work mornings on their own live radio show in Des Moines, Iowa, and then head off to school.
Doris Day knew them since they were kids. “Often I would go over to their house, and we would sing together,” she recalled after Andy Williams’ death in September 2012. “They asked me to join their group, but my vocal coach thought I should be out on my own.”

It’s the most wonderful tiiiiime of the yeeeeear! Wherever you fall on a festive scale of Scrooge to Elf, it’s certainly the best time of year for good telly: Christmas TV is every channel and streaming service’s time to shine, as they adorn their listings with sparkly specials and festive films. 2022 is no different, with everything from Christmas comedy offerings from Inside No. 9, to Ghosts and Detectorists, a new animated family film from the team behind The Gruffalo, and brand-new soppy festive rom-coms.
There’s also a growing selection box of Christmas dramas – including the last ever episode of Doc Martin – which is just as well considering this will be the first holiday season without a special Doctor Who episode since the show relaunched back in 2005.

A few days before the official start of CMA Fest in Nashville, Luke Combs is already running at full speed. He’s set to perform at Nissan Stadium over the weekend, but today he’s making up for the last two years or so of pandemic delays and cancellations with a giant celebration for a run of nine Number One songs that he co-wrote — from 2018’s “Beautiful Crazy” to the most recent, “Doin’ This.” Combs and a small army of collaborators have gathered at the Nashville headquarters of performing-rights organization...

One of the greatest elements of Danny McBride’s already great hit HBO comedy “The Righteous Gemstones” is the music. The show, about a dysfunctional family of wealthy televangelists, uses original and licensed music to make everything feel real despite being an over-the-top satire, and set a particularly high bar in Season 1 with “Misbehavin,'” a hilarious take on early 60’s country music that arguably serves as they show’s unofficial leitmotif.
But Season 2 surpassed that achievement twice, first with the original song “Sassy on Sunday,” and in the season finale with an absolutely incredible cover of country legend Don Williams’ 1977 song “Some Broken Hearts Never End.”
That’s thanks in large part to Joseph Stephens, the show’s songwriter and composer. Following the end of Season 2, we were lucky enough to talk to him, and he walked us through the creation of these classic moments, explaining just how much...

Andy Nyman is a treat as a middle-class man in debt forced to accompany a mysterious criminal for a night in a film made in 2011 but still relevant
This low-budget British psychological horror first premiered at FrightFest all the way back in 2011 but, due to a rights dispute, is only now receiving a wider release. This long delay hasn’t done The Glass Man much harm, thanks to the continuing relevance of its recessionary backdrop and the growing fame of lead actor Andy Nyman, now well known for the 2017 film adaptation of his stage hit Ghost Stories.
A clean-shaven Nyman stars as Martin Pyrite, a man whose apparently comfortable, upper-middle class life is falling apart behind the scenes. He’s been fired from his job for reasons that are unclear, amassed a huge amount of debt, and is keeping all this secret from his genteel wife Julie (Neve Campbell). After...

BBC and PBS drama Death in Paradise has returned to filming on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe.
The series, which is filming its tenth season, was set to start shooting in April but was delayed by the Covid-19 production shutdown.
Its return means that it is one of the first British dramas to start filming since lockdown.
Production company Red Planet Pictures has worked closely with industry bodies and the BBC to develop a detailed Covid-19 protocol policy, implementing various safety measures including social distancing, face coverings and temperature and Covid-19 testing to minimise any risk of infection
There is also a full-time Covid-19 supervisor on set to make sure the protocols are being implemented correctly and the latest guidance is incorporated into the policy.

Hulu will adapt Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.
So long, and thanks for all the fish! The dolphins will once again be getting the hell off this awful globe in a new adaptation of Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy at Hulu. Disney owns the Hitchhiker’s Guide IP, so resistance is futile - not that the author himself, who passed away in 2001, would likely have much of a problem with it springing back to life again.
Carlton Cuse is at the helm of the developing series (via Deadline). The man behind Lost, Amazon's Jack Ryan, and Netflix's upcoming comic book series, Locke & Key, has teamed up with Wonder Woman writer Jason Fuchs for the project.

Carrie Underwood delivered a heartbreaking in memoriam performance Wednesday at the 51st Country Music Association Awards.
The singer, 34, took the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to sing a somber rendition of the traditional hymn “Softly and Tenderly,” paying tribute to family members the country music community lost in 2017, including Troy Gentry, Glen Campbell and Don Williams.
Then, toward the end of the performance, the faces of the 58 victims who were killed in the mass shooting at the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Festival flashed across the screen in the venue.

As series Xii arrives online this week, we count down twenty of the best Red Dwarf episodes from across the show's long history...
Putting together a list of the Top 20 episodes of Red Dwarf presented an unusual challenge. The truth is, there’s barely a bum note in the first 36 episodes (Series I – VI) and then it’s a case of finding the quality episodes among the less successful half hours in the following 31 (Series VII – XI). The most accurate ‘top 20’ would be composed almost entirely of episodes from those first 36. However, for this list, we’ve resisted the urge to simply list most of the first six series and have deliberately ensured that this selection covers a reasonable span of the show, with every series except IX represented somewhere. This way, we can offer a more balanced overview of the whole history of the show, and...

That BBC Radio 4 is following up its successful 2013 Neverwhere adaptation with a one-off audio dramatisation of a Neverwhere prequel short story has been something of an open secret* these past months.
How The Marquis Got His Coat Back produced and directed by Dirk Maggs and Heather Larmour, featuring voice performances from Adrian Lester, Paterson Joseph, Don Warrington, Bernard Cribbins and more, will be broadcast in November.
BBC Radio 4 evidently hasn't finished raiding Gaiman's archives either. A two-part dramatisation of his 1999 novel Stardust, which was made into a 2007 film directed by Matthew Vaughan, will come to the airwaves this Christmas.
Matthew Beard and Sophie Rundle will be playing leads Tristan and Yvaine in the fantasy romance, which is recording this week in London. Joining them are Charlotte Riley,...

Christmas is coming and that means crappy TV commercials, awful festive songs and snotty nosed sprogs banging on your front door with a half-hearted version of We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and hoping to make enough money to buy a cheap bottle of wine! All this is interspersed with eating and drinking too much, and pretending to be grateful for the ill fitting Rudolph sweater Aunt Florence bought especially for you.
Okay I’m a Christmas misery, especially when it comes to festive films on TV. I’m not knocking It’s a Wonderful Life (1943) and Miracle on 34th Street (1941), but they are filled with too much sentiment for a cynical old sod like me.
So me being me, here are ten alternative efforts to keep us grumpy old men happy.

Andrew talks us through the best of the Eighth Doctor Audio Adventures from Big Finish. No particular reason...
Contains spoilers for The Night of the Doctor and several Big Finish plays.
Now is a very good time to start investigating the Eighth Doctor stories from Big Finish audio productions. If you don't know why, you should probably look here immediately, and maybe have some coffee.
Mentioned in The Night of the Doctor are the names of the Eighth Doctor's audio companions: Charley Pollard, C'rizz, Lucie Miller, Tamsin Drew and Molly O'Sullivan. The reason this is a big deal is that the Eighth Doctor had previously only appeared in one television story (1996's Doctor Who TV movie), and as a result multiple continuities had opened up across novels, comics and audioplays. The audioplays are still ongoing, and have now been tentatively slotted into the TV continuity.

The UK tour will launch in Blackpool at the Grand Theatre on Tuesday, May 14 before moving on to Darlington, Salford, Malvern, Norwich, Sheffield, Woking, Bradford and finally Richmond - wrapping up on July 20.
The play's cast includes Stephen Chapman (Rigsby), Paul Morse (Alan), Cornelis Macarthy (Philip) and Amanda Hadingue (Miss Jones).
The Rising Damp TV series was itself based on a stage play - writer Eric Chappell's 1971 work The Banana Box.

Which came first? The chicken or the egg? The NuWho episode or the Classic Doctor Who DVD release? There's a poser for dopey Professor Kerensky – maybe he should have devoted his time to organising a Doctor Who DVD schedule instead of building his infernal cellular accelerator contraption. At least, he wouldn't have ended up ageing to a skeleton.
So cast your minds back to 2006, when it was announced that Inferno and The Invasion would be out on brand spanking new shiny disc. Coincidence? Well, consider that the two-part Rise Of The Cybermen/The Age Of Steel (or Rise Of Steel as I like to call it) included the much-heralded return of the tinpot meanies, a reference to International Electromatics, a crazed entrepreneur with delusions of grandeur, and a doomy parallel universe. Which meant that the two DVDs would be popular choices for new generations of fans who had lapped up...

Even if you watched it, it's unlikely you'll ever remember the 90s supernatural horror/fantasy series Chiller originally shown in 1995 on ITV; There's a good reason for that. Recognisable writers and well-respected British actors make everything look good on paper, but watching the five episodes suggests they were nothing more than early pre-fame career-building work for the majority of the cast.

Matthew Cutler and Lilya Kopylova have quit BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, after a huge shake up of the reality TV show.
The pair had been dropped from the main line up and were told they would not be partnering celebrities this year. Instead they were offered a place on a dance troupe, who would undertake weekly performances and be paid only by the dance. They followed in the footsteps of Brian Fortuna who quit last month and turned the offer down.
Speaking about his departure, Cutler said: “I’ve absolutely loved my time on Strictly, and now is a good time to focus on developing new areas of my career. I’m excited about having more time to commit to new projects, and of course, still having a hand in Strictly without all the training!”
Kopylova added: “I will miss it, but I am looking forward to new opportunities ahead.

On this week's Strictly Come Dancing, Heather Small and Don Warrington ended up being voted into bottom two. The Rising Damp actor was criticised by judge Craig Revel Horwood for using "funky gesticulations" during his American Smooth and after the dance-off, Bruno, Arlene and Craig all decided Don should be the one to leave. We gave the laid-back thespian a call to find out how he enjoyed his time on the show. Hi Don. How are you feeling about your departure?
"I'm doing alright. I'm actually missing the training and the routine of it all, but it's the nature of the beast. I think I acquitted myself fairly well in last week's dance and I just leave the rest up to the judges really." What did you make of the judges' criticisms of your first dance?

Strictly Come Dancing notched up its second best audience this year last night (Sunday) as 9.03m (34.5%) tuned in to see actor Don Warrington eliminated from the competition. The figure is the highest for a results show this year and is up by almost 2 million viewers on last week. Shown over 50 minutes from 8.10pm, Strictly helped knock down ITV1's Heartbeat to 5.71m (22%) in the 8pm hour. At 9pm, ITV1 gained the lead with the second episode of A Touch Of Frost. 7.7m (33.6%) tuned in over two hours, up slightly on last week's 7.57m (32.8%). BBC One had a strong 5.57m (22.2%) for travel documentary Stephen Fry in America. Earlier, ITV1's one-off clip show Best Ever Worst Dance Moments, fronted by Justin Lee Collins, drew a decent 4.09m (17.9%) but was no match for BBC One's Antiques Roadshow, with 7.95m (34%) (more)...

Don Warrington has become the fifth celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing. The actor and his dance partner Lilia Kopylova were in the bottom two alongside Heather Small and Brian Fortuna after the male and female celebrities competed against each other for the first time in last night's show. Warrington's performance of the American Smooth had resulted in a lukewarm reception from the judges yesterday and he picked up just 25 points. "Well you were a bit off tonight," Bruno Tonioli explained. "For an actor it surprises me because you should get what the dance is about." Meanwhile, Craig Revel Horwood complained: "There were a few funky gesticulations (more)...

BBC's raunchy comedy Manchild has been adopted by ABC and Touchstone Television. The network and the studio are developing a U.S. version of the hot British show, often referred to as "the male answer to Sex and the City" with the original series' creator-writer-producer Nick Fisher attached to write and executive produce and its producer Linda Seifert on board as producer. Manchild centers on four 49-year-old male friends in the midst of their midlife crises who speak their minds on a wide range of topics, but most of all sex. Ray Burdis, Anthony Head, Don Warrington and Nigel Havers (who also narrates) star in the original series, which premiered in the United States on BBC America this summer to strong reviews. ABC has given a premium script commitment to the project, which had piqued the interest of least one other network. Fisher's TV credits also include Channel Four's Screaming Rebels and One Hour With Jonathan Ross and Granada Television's Children's Ward. On the feature side, he wrote Virtual Sexuality. Fisher and Seifert are repped by Paradigm.
