Fast and Furious 9 Brings in an Exciting New Writer

Fast & Furious 9 is getting a new writer. Chris Morgan, who has penned every single one of the movies in the franchise since The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, won't be taking on the next installment of Universal's cash cow. Instead, it will be Daniel Casey, who is a relative newcomer, taking a crack at it. This makes for a big change, as Morgan has been a consistent cog in the machine ever since these movies started becoming megahits at the box office. But he's not leaving the Fast and Furious world entirely.

Chris Morgan is taking over writing duties on Dwayne Johnson's upcoming Fast and Furious spin-off, which reteams him with Jason Statham. David Leitch was recently tapped to direct the movie, which is set to arrive in theaters on August 2, 2019, after recently being bumped back a week by Paramount. It makes sense to have Morgan,

If Dwayne Johnson Is Hollywood’s Biggest Star, Why Did ‘Rampage’ Open Soft?

If Dwayne Johnson Is Hollywood’s Biggest Star, Why Did ‘Rampage’ Open Soft?
“Rampage” opened #1 last weekend at just under $36 million, with Dwayne Johnson its only name draw. Is that enough to make The Rock the biggest movie star in Hollywood — or, is his greatest asset the near-complete dearth of actors who can open movies?

Johnson’s marquee value is well documented. Since 2011, he appeared in eight films that grossed over $100 million (nine if you include the animated “Moana”). “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “The Fate of the Furious” in 2017 each exceeded $200 million. However, times have changed. Once, being a top star meant your movies were always the year’s biggest movies. Now, in an era where animation and comic-book adaptations are the biggest draws, an actor’s own larger-than-life appeal is less important.

Rampage” should make around $90 million domestic and another $300 million or so additional overseas. Expect it to make $400 worldwide, perhaps a little more. With production and marketing costs topping $220 million,

April 17th Blu-ray & DVD Releases Include Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 11, Deep Blue Sea 2

Maybe it’s because this week’s home entertainment releases happen to be falling on the same time as Tax Day, but Tuesday’s Blu-ray and DVD debuts are what my grandfather would refer to as “slim pickins.” In terms of new titles, we’re finally getting the long-awaited sequel to Deep Blue Sea as well as the latest season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on both formats. Cult film fans will want to nab the new Blu-ray for Day of the Reaper, as it’s a very limited edition release, and for those of you looking to fill in a gap in your personal collections, The Skulls arrives in HD on April 17th, too.

‘Fastest Car’ Review: Netflix Racing Series Is a Better, More Inclusive Version of ‘Top Gear’

“Cars are an outlet for people to get over things and pass the time,” one participant in the new Netflix series “Fastest Car” says as he drives around his neighborhood. That quote is certainly true for some of his fellow drivers, the individuals who make up the talent pool for this new quasi-competition series, but the show is more interested in cutting against some of those kinds of generalizations. From the cars that people drive to the circumstances that each of these racers come from, these are episodes that aren’t just made from interchangeable parts.

Each episode does follow the same basic format: tracking four cars from their individual garages to an episode-closing quarter-mile race. The catch is that one of the four is an internationally recognized supercar (a Lamborghini Aventador, a Ford GT40), while the others are “sleepers,” souped-up versions of cars that would normally barely make it

Director Rob Cohen Would Like To Return To ‘Fast And Furious’ Franchise

Rob Cohen‘s nearly 40 years in Hollywood have been filled with ups and downs. He started off as a script reader for Universal, with his big break discovering the screenplay to eventual 1973 Best Picture winner “The Sting.” However, it wasn’t until he set his sights on directing that Cohen fully immersed himself into the Hollywood conversation. He would go on and make 2001’s “The Fast and the Furious” which starred relative unknowns Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Michelle Rodriguez.
