After giving us a slasher-themed take on the Groundhog Day time loop with Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U, director Christopher Landon will show us what a horror comedy version of Freaky Friday could look like with his new movie Freaky, starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton as a serial killer and high school student, respectively, who swap bodies just in time for Homecoming.

A Blumhouse film co-written by Landon and Michael Kennedy, Freaky will be released by Universal on Friday the 13th of November, and you can get an idea of the comedic carnage to come in the official trailer below:

Kathryn Newton, Vince Vaughn Body-Swap Thriller ‘Freaky’ Gets November Release in Theaters
Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions are planning a Nov. 13 theatrical release for “Freaky,” a horror take on the body-swap genre starring Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn.

The film, directed by Christopher Landon (“Happy Death Day”), follows 17-year-old Millie (Newton) who becomes the newest target of The Butcher (Vaughn), her town’s infamous serial killer.

Soon, The Butcher’s mystical ancient dagger causes him and Millie to switch bodies, and she learns that she has just 24 hours to switch back before the swap becomes permanent. With help from her friends, she races against the clock to lift the curse.

The film also stars Misha Osherovich, Celeste O’Connor, Uriah Shelton, Alan Ruck, Katie Finneran and Dana Drori.

Landon wrote “Freaky” alongside Michael Kennedy (Fox’s “Bordertown”). Jason Blum is producing, and the film is produced by Blumhouse Productions in association with Divide/Conquer. Couper Samuelson and Jeanette Volturno are executive producing.

STXfilms snaps up pandemic thriller ‘Songbird’
Endeavor Content represents international sales.

STXfilms has acquired North American and UK rights to Songbird, the pandemic thriller that shot recently in Los Angeles under strict health and safety protocols.

Adam Mason directs the story in which characters demonstrate the resilience of the human spirit as they fight for love and safety at the end of the world. Mason co-wrote the script with regular collaborator Simon Boyes, and wrapped principal photography earlier this month.

The cast includes Demi Moore, Kj Apa, Sofia Carson, Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Jenna Ortega, Alexandra Daddario, and Paul Walter Hauser.

STXfilms has acquired the North American and UK distribution rights to “Songbird,” the film that was shot in Los Angeles during lockdown and was produced by Michael Bay, Adam Goodman and Andrew Sugerman’s Invisible Narratives and Catchlight Films, STX and Invisible Narratives announced jointly Thursday.

Songbird” was one of the first features to film in Los Angeles since productions shut down in mid-March, and recently wrapped production. It’s a pandemic thriller that stars Kj Apa and Sofia Carson alongside Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Jenna Ortega, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Water Hauser and Demi Moore.

Into the Dark” filmmaker Adam Mason directed “Songbird” utilizing creative camera techniques made to prevent actors from having face-to-face interaction with one another while on camera, all while actors were separated from crew as filming took place. SAG-AFTRA at first issued a Do Not Work notice against the film, but the guild soon lifted that restriction.

STXfilms has acquired the North American and UK rights to Invisible Narratives’ pandemic thriller Songbird starring Kj Apa and Sofia Carson. While most major studios movies have been unable to get rolling here in California and Los Angeles during the lockdown, Songbird, produced by Michael Bay, Adam Goodman and Andrew Sugerman’s Invisible Narratives, and Catchlight Films, was one of the few to do so. In fact, the movie recently wrapped production.

After 2018’s “Halloween” reboot, fans were wondering how Michael Myers would rebound again. Well, the first teaser for its sequel, “Halloween Kills,” gives us a glimpse at how he’s still alive.

In the teaser, released after Universal’s announcement that the film’s release would be pushed from Oct. 16 of this year till next October, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode is sitting with her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and grandchild Allyson (Andi Matichak) in the bed of a pickup truck, very injured from what has just transpired. They see ambulances rushing in the direction they are coming from, pleading with the first responders to “let him burn.”

Executive producer John Carpenter, who directed and scored the original, took to Twitter following the release date announcement to express his heartbreak over needing to push the film. The third film in the rebooted franchise, “Halloween Ends,” will now open Oct. 14, 2022

Universal Shifts Blumhouse’s ‘Halloween’ Sequel and ‘The Forever Purge’ to 2021
In the latest shuffle of release dates due to the coronavirus, Universal has shifted three of its Blumhouse titles to 2021 and beyond, including the “Halloween” sequels “Halloween Kills” and “Halloween Ends” to 2021 and 2022 respectively, and “The Forever Purge” to summer 2021.

Universal has also shifted “Candyman,” from director Nia DaCosta and writer Jordan Peele, back to October 16, 2020 from its previous release date on September 25. It was originally meant to open this summer.

Halloween Kills” will now open on Oct. 15, 2021, a full year from its original Oct. 16, 2020 release, and the third film in the rebooted franchise, “Halloween Ends,” will now open Oct. 14, 2022. It takes the place of a previously announced, untitled Blumhouse Productions project. Both films are released by Universal Pictures, Miramax, Blumhouse Productions and Trancas International Films.

Michael Bay-Produced ‘Songbird’ Begins Production in LA, Adds Bradley Whitford and Jenna Ortega
Songbird,” the first feature film approved by the unions to start shooting amid the coronavirus outbreak, begins production in Los Angeles Wednesday, and the film has added Bradley Whitford and Jenna Ortega to the cast of the pandemic-themed thriller.

Songbird” is produced by former Paramount production chief Adam Goodman and former Disney exec Andrew Sugerman’s Invisible Narratives, with Catchlight Films and Michael Bay also producing.

The film was presented at the Cannes Virtual Market and also stars Demi Moore, Craig Robinson, Paul Walter Hauser and Peter Stormare. Adam Mason (“Into the Dark”) directs the film and wrote the script with Simon Boyes (“Misconduct”).
