Hobbs And Shaw Will Be a More Grounded Fast And Furious Spinoff and The Start of a Franchise

One of the reasons why I enjoy watching the Fast and Furious films is because of how ridiculously over-the-top they are. I think that's what most fans love them. But, the upcoming Hobbs and Shaw spinoff film with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham may be going in a different direction.

During a recent interview with Collider, director David Leitch (Deadpool 2) plans on scaling back a bit and make the spinoff more of a grounded film. He also reveals that it will kind of be an origin story:

"I think it’s going to be a little bit more grounded because it’s the beginning. It’s an origin story, in a sense. It’s not an origin story, but we’re starting a franchise. So we want it to be a little bit more grounded, a little bit more character-centric. We’re going to set up the stakes for these guys and their relationship,

Fast and Furious 9 Brings in an Exciting New Writer

Fast & Furious 9 is getting a new writer. Chris Morgan, who has penned every single one of the movies in the franchise since The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, won't be taking on the next installment of Universal's cash cow. Instead, it will be Daniel Casey, who is a relative newcomer, taking a crack at it. This makes for a big change, as Morgan has been a consistent cog in the machine ever since these movies started becoming megahits at the box office. But he's not leaving the Fast and Furious world entirely.

Chris Morgan is taking over writing duties on Dwayne Johnson's upcoming Fast and Furious spin-off, which reteams him with Jason Statham. David Leitch was recently tapped to direct the movie, which is set to arrive in theaters on August 2, 2019, after recently being bumped back a week by Paramount. It makes sense to have Morgan,

Allen Hughes (‘The Defiant Ones’): ‘News of Beats/Apple deal made making film a nightmare’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
“For a week I thought my film was done,” declares director Allen Hughes about the chaos that erupted several weeks after he began filming “The Defiant Ones” for HBO (watch the exclusive video above) back in 2014. Word had leaked that Beats by Dr. Dre, the audio electronics company founded by Dr. Dre and Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine, was about to be acquired by Apple for $3.2 billion. The impending deal was then indirectly confirmed by both Dre and Tyrese Gibson, who posted a video of both them bragging about Dre becoming the first billionaire in hip hop. Things ended up working out and Hughes was able to continue filming the doc but still refers to that period of time as a “nightmare.”

The Defiant Ones” showcases the journeys of both Dre and Iovine as they came up through the ranks of the music business beginning with Dre as a DJ and a member of N.

The Rock's Fast and Furious Spin-Off Gets a New Summer Release Date

The Rock's Fast and Furious Spin-Off Gets a New Summer Release Date
Those excited to see Dwayne Johnson back as agent Hobbs in the upcoming Fast and Furious Spin-Off alongside Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw are going to have to wait just a little bit longer. Emphasis on the little bit part. Universal has bumped back the release date of the spin-off by one week, meaning it will come out just a bit later in the summer season next year. The movie is now set to arrive on August 2, 2019.

This moves the flick from its previous, July 26, 2019, release date. The Fast and Furious spin-off would have been all alone on its previous weekend, which is what makes this release date shift a little bit surprising. In its new date, The Rock will be duking it out at the box office with Dora The Explorer, of all things, as Paramount is releasing the live-action take on the Nickelodeon series on the same day.

Fast and Furious 9 Will Go Bigger Than Ever, May Head to Africa

Fast & Furious 9 isn't coming our way until 2020, but Vin Diesel is teasing that fans should expect something even bigger than what we've seen from the franchise previously. That, by Fast and Furious standards, is a very tall order, especially considering how insane things got in Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious. Not only is Diesel promising that the next movie in the franchise is going to be bigger, but he also teases that they may be going to Africa for the first time in the upcoming sequel.

Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Jordana Brewster, who will make her return in Fast and Furious 9, recently were on hand to promote the opening of a new Fast and Furious ride at Universal Studios Orlando. During their visit, Today caught up with them and asked if Diesel could dish any details on the next installment. While he couldn't give away too much,

David Leitch Levels On Deadpool 2 And Its Ties To The X-Men Universe

David Leitch is a filmmaker in demand.

After molding John Wick into a modern action classic – a feat accomplished alongside co-director Chad Stahelski – Leitch immersed himself in the world of blockbuster violence for Atomic Blonde and the soon-to-be-released Deadpool 2. And things are just getting started.

As we learned just yesterday, David Leitch has been tasked with helming Ubisoft’s big-screen adaptation of The Division, the post-pandemic shooter set in a ravaged Big Apple, while there’s also that Hobbs and Shaw spinoff movie that is poised to steer Fast and Furious into uncharted territory – much to the dismay of Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson, if you believe everything you read online.

However, closer to home, the prolific filmmaker is firmly focused on Deadpool 2, the R-rated sequel that looks to be every bit as hilarious and gut-wrenchingly violent as the first film. Not that we would have it any other way.

The Rock's Fast and Furious Spin-Off Confirms John Wick Director

The Rock's Fast and Furious Spin-Off Confirms John Wick Director
Universal's Fast and Furious Spin-Off starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham now officially has a director. We reported in February that Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch had been eyed to take the helm, and now he's been confirmed, with the official Fast & Furious Twitter channel welcoming him to the family. With production reportedly slated to begin this fall, it seems everything is coming into place for this currently untitled action thriller.

While promoting Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle last month, Dwayne Johnson teased that there will be a lot of surprises in store for fans in this spin-off. No official story details have been released at this time, but there was originally set to be a post-credit scene at the end of last year's The Fate of the Furious, which featured Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw, which was intended to set up this spin-off.

Deadpool 2 director David Leitch to direct Fast & Furious spin-off with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham

It looks like some headway has been made with Universal’s Fast & Furious spin-off film Hobbs and Shaw. A couple months ago it was rumoured Deadpool 2 director David Leitch was in talks to direct the film with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham starring and now Universal has confirmed the news.

The announcement was made via Fast & FuriousTwitter page, welcoming Leitch to the franchise. Though the project doesn’t have an official title, it will centre on Johnson’s Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs, who has appeared in the franchise since Fast Five, and Jason Statham’s mercenary assassin Deckard Shaw, who first joined the franchise in a post-credits scene for Fast & Furious 6 before appearing as an antagonist in Furious 7 and unexpected ally in The Fate of the Furious.

Please welcome David Leitch as the director of the Fast & Furious Hobbs and Shaw spinoff.

Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's Fast & Furious Spinoff Just Landed a Director

The Fast & Furious franchise is officially getting a spinoff - and no, it's not a sequel to Tokyo Drift. The chemistry between Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw characters in the last action film, Fate of the Furious, was enough to inspire Universal to center a new movie around the pair's antics. Shaw, a former villain with a heart of gold, and Hobbs, a hardass Us Diplomatic Security Agent, will presumably team up without Dom Toretto's (Vin Diesel) family of vehicle-savvy criminals to save the world from Charlize Theron's zombie cars.

On April 12 Entertainment Weekly revealed that the film has found a director, and he couldn't be a better fit: David Leitch. In addition to helming Deadpool 2, the former stunt double/coordinator also directed Atomic Blonde and codirected John Wick, all of which feature elaborate action sequences. Knowing Hobbs and Shaw - which

Dwayne Johnson is Unsure If He'll Return For Furious 9; Apparently He's Still Not on Good Terms with Vin Diesel

As you all know by now, there was some behind the scenes drama on the Fast and Furious franchise. Dwayne Johnson seemed to butt heads with both Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson. They just have different personalities that have a different way of doing things.

Johnson is currently working on developing that Fast and Furious spin-off film with Jason Statham which will focus on Hobbes and Shaw, but in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson isn't sure if he'll be returning for Furious 9.

This interview is actually pretty candid and he gets into some of the drama that went down. I'm sure you all remember what Johnson posted on Instagram, but if not, here's what he said:

"There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one. An incredible hard working crew. Universal Studios Entertainment has been great partners as well. My female co-stars are

Dwayne Johnson Recalls a 'Face-to-Face in My Trailer' with Vin Diesel While Explaining Feud

Dwayne Johnson Recalls a 'Face-to-Face in My Trailer' with Vin Diesel While Explaining Feud
Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson is shedding more light on his feud with Vin Diesel.

In a wide-ranging new interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson, 45, said his beef with his fellow action star on the set of 2018’s The Fate of the Furious boiled down to a disagreement about professionalism.

“Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer,” he said. “And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.

Green Lantern Corps. Targets Mission: Impossible 6 Director

Green Lantern Corps. Targets Mission: Impossible 6 Director
It looks like the Green Lantern Corps. movie may be closing in on director Christopher McQuarrie. Warner Bros. is in flux right now, in terms of how it's handling the future of the live-action DC movie universe. Justice League disappointed in many ways and that has caused swift change for DC Films. With that, many of the DC projects that are, or were, in development are in doubt. However, it looks like the Green Lantern Corps. movie is still moving forward and, what's more, it looks like Mission: Impossible - Fallout's director may be the one at the helm.

Warner Bros. is reportedly still looking to make Green Lantern Corps., which has been described as a buddy cop movie akin to Lethal Weapon in space. It will feature Hal Jordan, played by Ryan Reynolds in the previous, disastrous live-action Green Lantern movie, as well as the John Stewart version of the character.

Green Lantern Corps Targeting Mission: Impossible’s Christopher McQuarrie To Direct

Christopher McQuarrie’s next mission, should he choose to accept it, will be to direct Green Lantern Corps for Warner Bros. and DC Films.

That Hashtag Show has the scoop, claiming that the Mission: Impossible and Jack Reacher filmmaker is being courted by Warner Bros. for their in-development Hal Jordan/John Stewart buddy cop movie – presumably at the expense of Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), who was reportedly in the frame to direct late last year.

Going one step further, Ths also theorizes that McQuarrie’s involvement in Green Lantern Corps may open up a path for Tom Cruise to enter the DC Extended Universe. If that’s the case, and Warner Bros. somehow manages to convince Cruise to join another shared universe – one need only look to The Mummy for evidence of the Dark Universe’s failings – then he’ll likely play the part of a supporting character,

The Rock's Fast and Furious Spin-Off Begins Shooting This Fall

The Rock's Fast and Furious Spin-Off Begins Shooting This Fall
A new report suggests that the Fast and Furious Spin-Off starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham will be directed by Deadpool 2 helmer David Leitch and production will begin on September 6th, 2018. It was recently announced that Leitch was the frontrunner for the director's spot and that looks to be true at this point in time. The Hobbs and Shaw movie has been highly anticipated since it was announced, and it looks like the July 26th, 2019 release date will remain in place.

The September production start date makes sense for the Fast and Furious spin-off since Dwayne Johnson will have wrapped production on The Jungle Cruise in August and that will give the actor a chance to take a breather before jumping into another action movie. Fans of the Fast and Furious are excited for the spin-off, but some are angry that Fast and Furious 9 has been delayed, most likely due to the spin-off.
