Current conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Tenure started in 1993. Lives in San Francisco with partner Josh Robison.

Is also founder and conductor of the New World Symphony located in Miami Beach, Florida.

Currently recording a series of live Mahler symphony concerts. Five are already released. Tours with the San Francisco Symphony every year, usually to Europe and the United States.
