‘Useful Idiots’ With Ryan McMahon and Jon Thompson of the ‘Thunder Bay’ Podcast
In the latest socially distanced episode of our Useful Idiots podcast, hosts Matt Taibbi and Katie Halper are joined by Ryan McMahon and Jon Thompson of the Thunder Bay podcast.

For “Democrats Suck,” Katie dives into former President Barack Obama’s new best-selling memoir A Promised Land, particularly the section in which Obama laments overseeing the deaths of people that he asserts he had actually wanted to help.

“Yeah, he wrote that,” says Katie.

“That takes some stones to write that, I have to say. I’m very impressed,” responds Matt.

Jimmy Kimmel Apologizes For Video, But Still Mocks Mike Pence’s “Empty” PR Stunt

Jimmy Kimmel Apologizes For Video, But Still Mocks Mike Pence’s “Empty” PR Stunt
Jimmy Kimmel didn’t quite get Mike Pence’s humor. Turns out, Kimmel was also missing something else: the complete video.

The host of Jimmy Kimmel Live used his monologue on Thursday night to rip a clip that seemed to show Vice President Pence delivering empty boxes of personal protective equipment to a Virginia nursing home.

In the video, Pence makes one trip from a delivery van to the facility’s front door and then asks, before his second trip, if he could “carry the empty ones…Just for the camera.”

Mandarins are upset that the venerable story-clearance system failed to operate for the Nsa leaks. But they should value any kind of consensual arrangement with a free press

It's as English as Downton Abbey, and not much more invigorating either. The defence advisory (aka D notice) committee, founded in 1912 with all its attendant warning notices, has chugged along amiably through two world wars and the entirety of the cold war: a team of mandarins, chaired by the permanent secretary at the MoD, and a team of media nominees, meeting and chatting and keeping dodgy stuff under wraps. But now, somewhat ridiculously, the end may be nigh.

Jon Thompson, top dog for the MoD, has grown agitated through the Guardian's months of coverage of Snowden's Nsa documents (a story that wasn't referred to the committee or its secretary, Air Vice-Marshal Andrew Vallance, first). What's the use of a voluntary story-clearance system
