The Neighbors: Cancelled, No Season Three for ABC Comedy

It's time for the aliens to go home. ABC has cancelled The Neighbors after two seasons and 44 episodes.

A family sitcom, The Neighbors follows the Weaver clan as they try to live in a beautiful gated community that's filled with alien visitors from the planet Zabvron. The ensemble castmembers are Jami Gertz, Lenny Venito, Simon Templeman, Toks Olagundoye, Tim Jo, Clara Mamet, Ian Patrick, Isabella Cramp, and Max Charles.

After a first season of mediocre ratings, the series could have been cancelled last May. However, ABC decided to stick with it and scheduled it on Friday nights. Expectations on Fridays are lower but The Neighbors' ratings ended up being too low for a third season renewal.

Castmate Olagundoye tweeted the news, "Tweeps, I have known since last night, but was not able to share the news until it was announced publicly.

'The Neighbors': Representing New Jersey fashion beyond mobsters in tracksuits

It's been 15 years since "The Sopranos" put New Jersey style on display. And please don't be snide and ask, "What style?"

Beyond mobsters wearing tracksuits that make it only to tracks with horses, and the summer shore crowd, which has never met an animal print or bikini too outrageous, TV now gives us another highly stylized New Jersey group - aliens in golf duds.

ABC's Friday sitcom "The Neighbors" has aliens settled in a gated community in New Jersey, and their preferred attire is golf clothes.

The aliens have been on a steep learning curve.Initially, they feared Halloween and set up a barrier at the gates of Hidden Hills, hoping to keep children in costumes at bay. After the Weavers (Jami Gertz, Lenny Venito) explain the American custom of costumed children begging candy from strangers, the aliens relent. Above, Jackie takes on Effie Trinket from "The Hunger Games" in a custom-made costume.

You Need to See This Bollywood Musical Number From The Neighbors—Watch Now

You Need to See This Bollywood Musical Number From The Neighbors—Watch Now
"Turn the light bulb, pet the dog!" The Neighbors is heading to Bollywood! Taking a cue from Smash (Rip), the ABC sitcom is putting on a big musical number in Friday, March 7's episode after Larry Bird (Simon Templeman) is invited to his coworker's traditional Indian wedding. Of course, Larry and Jackie (Toks Olagundoye) soon get carried away when they try to think of a wedding gift, leading to a massive Bollywood musical number you have to see to believe. "My college roommate is Siddhartha Khosla, who is the lead singer of the band Goldspot, my absolute favorite band," Dan Fogelman, The Neighbors executive producer and creator, said in a statement to E! News. "Because Sid is Indian,...

'The Neighbors' hosts an Oscar party with Carrot Top and Erik Estrada

In anticipation of the Academy Awards on Sunday (March 2), "The Neighbors" is throwing an Oscar party. Debbie and Marty Weaver (Jami Gertz and Lenny Venito) may have wanted a quiet night in front of the TV with popcorn, but Larry Bird (Simon Templeton) and Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundoye) have other ideas.

See all the glamour of a Zabvronian Academy Award fête in this exclusive clip from "Oscar Party."

A red carpet and formal clothing mix with photographers to make this all very glamorous. Plus, there are gift bags.

With celebrity guests -- Carrot Top and Erik Estrada! -- this Oscar party may just top the real thing. They even have sponsorship from Magnum (the ice cream, not the condoms. This is a common mistake people make).

"The Neighbors" Oscar episode airs Friday, Feb. 28 at 8:30 p.m. on ABC.

Tricia O’Kelley Joins ‘Devious Maids’, Joshua Sasse To Recur On ‘The Neighbors’

Tricia O’Kelley (The New Adventures of Old Christine) has been cast in a season-long recurring role on Lifetime’s Devious Maids. She’ll play Tanya, a local Beverly Hills resident. O’Kelley, repped by Domain and Art/Work Entertainment, recently recurred on ABC Family’s The Secret Life Of The American Teenager. Season 2 of Devious Maids is set to premiere April 20, when star Eva Longoria will direct the season opener. That is some good first impression. Joshua Sasse, who was recently set for the title role Dan Fogelman’s ABC musical comedy pilot Galavant, also has landed a meaty recurring role on Fogelman’s ABC comedy series The Neighbors. Sasse, ICM Talent, Olivia Bell Management and Authentic Talent, will play Larry’s (Simon Templeman) brother — they are rivals as everyone loves him and is sent down to earth to clean up Larry’s mess.

'The Neighbors' video: Larry Bird and Reggie Jackson's cycles synced in 'Man, Actually'

Pms takes on a whole new meaning in "The Neighbors" episode "Man, Actually," when Zabvronian reproductive cycles bring depression to the men of the alien household. With Dick Butkus going through the Terrible 10s and Debbie going back to school at the same time, it's going to be an emotional episode.

This clip from "Man, Actually," which you can see exclusively on Zap2it, shows just how depressed Reggie Jackson (Tim Jo) and Larry Bird (Simon Templeman) are, now that their cycles have synchronized. All of this is understandably stressful to the already-stressed Debbie Weaver (Jami Gertz). Quite frankly, she doesn't particularly want to hear any of the details.

Thus, poor Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundoye) has to deal with her fretful men on her own.

"Man, Actually" airs Friday (Jan. 24) at 8:30 p.m. Et on ABC.

'The Neighbors' meets 'Shark Tank': Jami Gertz and Dan Fogelman on the crossover episode

"The Neighbors" may be as far from reality as you can get, but that doesn't stop the comedy from having a crossover episode with "Shark Tank."

This Friday (Nov. 8) in "We Jumped the Shark (Tank)," Debbie Weaver (Jami Gertz), Larry Bird (Simon Templeman) and Jackie Joyner Kersee (Toks Olagundoye) will all face the scary reality waters of "Shark Tank" in an attempt to sell Debbie's brand-new invention.

It doesn't go well, as far as sales are concerned. In terms of comedy, however, this pitch is worth millions.

Want to know more? Check out this exclusive interview with Jami Gertz and executive producer Dan Fogelman to find out what happens when aliens meet sharks.**

**Not just an ABC crossover, but also a pitch for the next Syfy original movie.

Why did you want to do a crossover between "The Neighbors" and "Shark Tank"?

Dan Fogelman: Obviously, we work on the show,

Why aren't you watching 'The Neighbors'?
Let’s just say hypothetically you were at a party and someone asked you what your favorite TV sitcom this season is. Say Brooklyn Nine Nine and you’ll get some nods. Modern Family and everyone will agree. Big Bang Theory? Can’t go wrong there. But…The Neighbors? Chances are you’ll get either blank stares or uncomfortable “Are you serious?” laughter. Here’s the thing, though: It’s funny. Like, actually funny. I’d even say funnier than at least one of those other sitcoms.

'The Neighbors' casts 'Family Matters' and 'Family Ties' parents

"The Neighbors" is welcoming two sitcom legends in guest-starring roles. Reginald VelJohnson -- formerly Carl Winslow of "Family Matters" -- and Meredith Baxter -- Elyse Keaton on "Family Ties" -- will make an appearance on the show's Thanksgiving episode.

But who will these comedy parents play? They will play parents, of course. They're the parents of Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundoye), to be exact (as reported by EW.com). This means that the characters will a) be aliens and b) be really super weird.

That's only to be expected on a show about aliens living in a gated suburb (adjacent to a golf course) in New Jersey. When the human Weaver family moves in, they get the honor of explaining the world to the athlete-named Zabrovnians. The results are interesting at best.

VelJohnson and Baxter are not the first alien parents to come for a visit. George Takei ("Star Trek") guest-starred

The Neighbors: Season Two Ratings

While The Neighbors didn't attract a large audience in its first season, ABC decided to renew it and move the show to Friday nights. Will viewers make the move as well. Will the ratings be good enough to ensure a third season or will the series be cancelled instead? We shall see.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available --

ABC Lets 'Neighbors' Stay For Season 2

It sometimes takes a little more than just one season to become a hit. Just ask "Big Bang Theory," which found new life as a veteran series than it did as a new series. And ABC is hoping that someday they can say the same about its alien comedy "Neighbors." The show -- which stars Jami Gertz, Lenny Venito, Simon Templeman and Toks Olagundoye -- had a modest premiere for ABC, and slowly watched its audience erode throughout the course of the season. However, the comedy from "Crazy, Stupid, Love's" Dan Fogelman, has picked up a core audience, and there is a chance that could grow in a second season. "Neighbors" centers around a regular human family who move into a gated community in New Jersey, and are shocked to not only find neighbors with strange (and famous) names like Larry Bird ...
