Vertical has acquired U.S. rights to fantasy thriller The Lost Daughter, a gothic mystery directed by Emmy winner Austin Andrews and Andrew Holmes, marking the writer-director duo’s second feature film. The film is slated for release in early 2025 in select theaters.
Based on Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie’s dark fantasy Mary Rose, the film stars Paloma Kwiatkowski (Riot Girls), David Mazouz (Gotham) and Camille Sullivan (Hunter Hunter), with Golden Globe nominee Adam Beach (The Power of the Dog) and Donal Logue (Zodiac).
Kwiatkowski plays Lily, a young woman drawn by a haunting melody to a remote tidal island. When she returns to the mainland at the next low tide, 25 years have mysteriously passed.
As Lily reunites with her estranged son Jared (Mazouz), who harbors his own ties to the island, she uncovers terrifying secrets and discovers that escaping the island’s grasp could come at a devastating cost.

The following article contains foul language.
Jared Keeso's hockey-centric Letterkenny spinoff Shoresy is driven by running gags and ongoing jokes, and few are funnier than Shoresy's never-ending pursuit of reporter Laura Mohr, which results in some absolutely hilarious pick-up lines. Not much is known about Shoresy's background, including what his first name is, but over the course of Shoresy the audience learns that there is more heart to the foul-mouthed hockey veteran than he would ever admit. Aside from his pet bird Big Sexy, his most significant soft spot is local reporter Laura Mohr.
Played by Canadian actress Camille Sullivan, Laura Mohr is a divorced single mother (and appears to be a high-functioning alcoholic) who occasionally interacts with Shoresy, the team captain, for insight on the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs. It becomes clear that Shoresy's earnest pick-up lines have won her over a bit over time, as she becomes friendlier...

Stars: Camille Sullivan, Keith David, Michael Beach, Sarah Durn, Brendan Sexton III, Robin Bartlett, Charlie Talbert, Emily Bennett | Written by Chris Stuckmann, Sam Liz | Directed by Chris Stuckmann
Having built a name for himself as a YouTube film critic, Chris Stuckmann made the decision to change lanes and instead become a filmmaker. His feature debut, Shelby Oaks, generated a lot of hype as it became the most funded horror film on Kickstarter, attached horror master Mike Flanagan as an executive producer, and was acquired by Neon for worldwide distribution rights.
The story tells the unsolved case of The Paranormal Paranoids, a once-successful team of paranormal investigators on YouTube who went missing during an investigation. While many believed it was an elaborate hoax, there remains no sign of justice or answers twelve years later. Turning to a documentary crew for help, Mia (Camille Sullivan) remains adamant on discovering what happened to...

When popular YouTube reviewer Chris Stuckmann first announced the crowdfunder for his debut feature, there were (maybe understandably) a fair amount of eye-rolls. But after the project started picking up steam, breaking Kickstarter records (raising nearly $1.4 million in under a month), adding names like Mike Flanagan to the mix in producer roles, and signing a hefty distribution deal with industry icon Neon, the story of Shelby Oaks took a very different turn.
Suddenly, it felt like a real indie success story; the little horror that could. The only thing left for the film to do was actually be good. And it’s safe to say, now that we’ve actually seen it, that Stuckmann and his team have happily crossed that milestone too.
Not only is this a commercially savvy horror that plays with a lot of the most celebrated elements of a number of sub-genres, but Shelby Oaks is...

I am a sucker for found footage, and though Shelby Oaks isn’t exactly that, it does incorporate the concept into its narrative in a way that is unique and satisfying. It’s a horror film that is told largely through a traditional narrative structure, but uses the disappearance of a group of content creators and the final footage that they shot to create the basis for a mystery that takes the audience through a crazy web of both real life and supernatural horrors.
Directed by Chris Stuckmann from a script that he co-wrote with Sam Liz, Shelby Oaks opens as a faux documentary telling the story of the disappearance of a cast of Youtube personalities. In the world of the film, the Paranormal Paranoids had found success in the early days of the platform through creating a show that explored various paranormal locales. If you’re wondering where to find the next generation of great filmmakers, look no further than YouTube. Running a channel involves pumping out content on a regular basis, shooting and editing your own videos (on a limited budget), and learning how to grow an audience; self-taught skills that will come in handy when it comes to making a first feature. A prime example of this is Danny and Michael Philippou, who started off making horror comedy shorts on their channel RackaRacka and went on to direct the very successful Talk To Me. And now there’s another name to add to that list: Chris Stuckmann and his debut feature Shelby Oaks.
For over a decade, Stuckmann has been reviewing movies on YouTube, raking in millions of subscribers. A couple years ago, he set out to make a movie of his own, and launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund it,...

Shelby Oaks is the highly anticipated debut film from Chris Stuckmann, the film critic and YouTube sensation who has parlayed his love of genre film into bringing this story of revenge and redemption to the big screen. Promising to tap the font of found footage films from the ‘90s and 2000s,...

Chris Stuckmann could have rested on his laurels. He could have coasted on his 2 million-plus YouTube subscribers and led a happy, fulfilling life as the internet’s premier movie buff. But teenage dreams don’t go away that easily, and as grateful as he is for the film community that’s formed around his eponymously named YouTube channel, his original ambition was to make movies, not talk about them. The Ohio native has been helming amateur shorts and features with his friends since he was 14 years old, and he continued doing so once he started YouTubing at 21. Each project got better and better, and in 2019, Stuckmann decided to truly make a go at professional filmmaking.

Plot: When Riley (Sarah Durn), a YouTube paranormal investigator, disappears, her older sister, Mia (Camille Sullivan), frantically searches for her.
Review: Of all the films premiering at this year’s edition of the Fantasia Film Festival, very few have piqued the interest of genre fans everywhere, like Shelby Oaks. The feature directorial debut of YouTube film critic Chris Stuckmann (who also wrote and co-produced the film), it was recently snapped up for theatrical release by Neon, who are riding high as a genre distributor following the success of Longlegs. Many of his fans are curious whether Stuckmann’s on-camera criticism translates into solid directorial chops.
So what’s the result? Sad to say, the hope that Shelby Oaks would be the next great horror debut was overblown. This is meant as no sleight against Stuckmann who, I must admit, I know next to nothing about. I’ve only seen a handful of his reviews,...

The feature film debut of writer/director Chris Stuckmann has a solid, albeit slightly familiar, premise. In 2008, four YouTubers known for a ghost hunting show called ‘Paranormal Paranoids’ go missing near the deserted town of Shelby Oaks, sparking conspiracy theories and suspicions it’s a hoax to increase the channel’s notoriety.
When the bodies of Laura (Caisey Cole), Peter (Anthony Baldasare), and David (Eric Francis Malaragni) are discovered, however, the focus shifts to the fourth member: host Riley (Sarah Durn), whose disappearance prompts nationwide speculation around the question: “Who took Riley Brennan?”
That’s the question that Riley’s older sister Mia (Camille Sullivan) can’t stop thinking about. Twelve long years after the disappearance of her supernaturally gifted sibling, Mia is being interviewed by a documentary team led by Janet (Emily Bennett). It’s something of a hail mary by Mia’s husband Robert (Brendan Sexton III), who...

There’s been a bit of mystery surrounding Shelby Oaks, the directorial debut of Chris Stuckmann. A YouTuber who got his start reviewing films and has now amassed over two-million subscribers, Stuckmann pursued his goal of becoming a full-fledged filmmaker, got producers to come aboard, and then pulled off the feat of raising nearly $1.4 million via crowdfunding to finance his film. After making Shelby Oaks, he got Mike Flanagan to sign on as executive producer, nabbed a world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival, and compelled Neon to pick the film up for a wide theatrical release. While he’s not the first person to pull off the transition from YouTube to theaters––you can look to Danny and Michael Philippou’s (aka RackaRacka) breakout success Talk to Me as another example––Stuckmann’s journey to the big screen is about as ideal as a first-time feature filmmaker could ask for.

Chris Stuckmann’s first feature film, Shelby Oaks tells the story of Mia, a woman who refuses to give up searching for her missing sister Riley. Over a decade ago, Riley and her ghost-hunting YouTube group, the Paranormal Paranoids, vanished without a trace in the abandoned town of Shelby Oaks, Ohio. Now Mia works tirelessly to uncover what happened, believing her sister is still alive.
Stuckmann brings an impressive wealth of genre knowledge to his directorial debut, having been a prominent movie reviewer online for years. For Shelby Oaks, he channels that passion through the captivating mystery at its core. Mia’s quest keeps viewers hooked as secrets are unearthed around every corner. Yet Stuckmann also shows he’s willing to take risks, experimenting with found footage and documentary styles to twist expectations.
While Mia’s obsession grows frustrating at times, actress Camille Sullivan infuses her with nuance that holds the story together.

Whether you want a job done right, or just done right now, do it yourself. That’s the fearless edict uniting first-time feature filmmaker Chris Stuckmann and his headstrong final girl Mia (Camille Sullivan) in the winding mystery of “Shelby Oaks.”
An ambitious horror exploration born of the found footage format, which honors genre but rarely attempts to subvert it, this spooky procedural unearths a new kind of cold case for Neon — this one, fittingly acquired on the heels of the viral “Longlegs,” still running away with the box office now in its second week. When four internet ghosthunters known as the Paranormal Paranoids find trouble in an abandoned town, three turn up dead and the last (Sarah Durn) is never discovered.
“Who took Riley Brennan?” graffiti across the surrounding Ohio area wants to know 12 years later. It’s very Derry and just one of many warm details that make Stuckmann’s universe,...

There's an expression that gets tossed around the entertainment industry that says "Every movie is a miracle." It's a way to express that even with corporate backing, massive budgets, celebrity casting, and a stellar crew, moviemaking is so difficult that it's a miracle that a movie ever comes to fruition. This goes double if not triple for those working outside of the studio system. YouTube film enthusiast-turned-filmmaker Chris Stuckmann is one of those miracle stories, a guy from Ohio who managed to translate making videos about movies in his bedroom to directing the most-funded horror film in Kickstarter history and nabbing a distribution deal from Neon in the process.
"Shelby Oaks" is Stuckmann's directorial feature debut, a film he's been developing for the better part of a decade. The story is centered on a woman named Mia (Camille Sullivan), the sister of paranormal investigator Riley (Sarah Durn) who has been missing for 12 years.

Big news for horror fans and avid followers of YouTuber Chris Stuckmann. The film critic's upcoming horror movie Shelby Oaks has just been picked up by Neon for theatrical distribution. Shelby Oaks will have its world premiere this weekend at the Fantasia Festival and is likely on track for a 2025 release in theaters.
Neon has been the talk of the town lately thanks to the huge success of recent release Longlegs, the captivating and unsettling serial killer starring Maika Monroe as an FBI agent investigating the titular murderer, played by an unrecognizable Nicolas Cage. Longlegs broke the record for the biggest opening weekend box office for original horror this year, earning $22.6 million.
According to Variety, Longlegs was made for less than $10 million and the studio used around that amount to market the film, so by my calculations that means its already broken even on its first weekend in cinemas.

Neon is still popping champagne after the huge box office weekend that their latest release, Longlegs, experienced, which led to the biggest opening of their seven-year history. The indie studio is proving themselves as the place to be for burgeoning talent and provocative releases, and they're looking to establish that point more with each new project they acquire. Fresh off the success of Longlegs, Neon has made moves to pick up a horror film from YouTube personality and filmmaker, Chris Stuckmann.
Per Deadline, Neon has acquired the worldwide rights to Stuckmann's documentary/found-footage horror film, Shelby Oaks, a project he both wrote and directed. YouTuber Chris Stuckmann’s horror film Shelby Oaks has been picked up by Neon, the distributor behind Longlegs.
Longlegs distributor and production company Neon has picked up the worldwide rights for Shelby Oaks, the debut feature film from YouTube creator Chris Stuckmann.
A hybrid of conventional horror storytelling and found footage, the film’s about a woman looking for missing sister, the co-host of a supernatural podcast who vanished with her two fellow investigators.
Stuckmann, perhaps best known for his successful movie review channel on YouTube, made Shelby Oaks independently, having managed to crowdfund an impressive $1.4m on Kickstarter. That sum set a new record for a horror project on the platform. Stuckmann both co-wrote and directed the film, with production taking place in Ohio in 2022.

Neon has acquired the rights to “Shelby Oaks,” a found-footage horror film (think: “The Blair Witch Project”) that is the feature directorial debut of YouTuber Chris Stuckmann.
Stuckmann is known for his movie review YouTube channel that has more than 2 million subscribers, but his debut feature was born with a Kickstarter in 2022. Stuckmann raised $1.39 million in less than a month, the most-funded horror film ever on Kickstarter.
“Shelby Oaks” follows Mia as she frantically searches for her sister Riley, who ominously disappeared in the last tape of her investigative series, “Paranormal Paranoids.” The characters are YouTubers themselves in the mid-aughts who in the course of their investigation discover that there’s a paranormal force that dates back to their childhood.

Shelby Oaks follows Camille Sullivan as she searches for her missing sister, played by Sarah Durn. Her sister disappeared while filming her paranormal investigation web series. Brendan Sexton III also stars in what sounds like a creepy mystery.

It’s almost time for the Fantasia Film Festival! North America’s premiere genre festival has become the place to be if you’re a horror aficionado, and as a proud Montrealer, I get a kick out of the fact that it all takes place in my home city. Last year’s Fantasia featured the Canadian premiere of what’s probably the best horror movie of the last year or so – Late Night With The Devil, and this year’s program seems certain to be another winner, with Fantasia announcing the first wave of titles today.

O'Neil took on the challenge due to his interest in becoming a member of the K-9 search and rescue team, despite seven previous rejections, and to prevent Ruby's euthanization. The pair began their training process, but it didn't initially go smoothly, considering Ruby's excitable personality. However, O'Neil revealed their commonalities when he shared his dyslexia and hyperactivity diagnosis,...

Nearly three years have gone by since Chris Stuckmann, a movie critic and author with a channel on YouTube that has over 2 million subscribers, signed a deal with Paper Street Pictures to write and direct the mystery horror film Shelby Oaks. Two years ago, the project became the most-funded horror film project in Kickstarter history, with its crowdfunding campaign pulling in over $1 million. Filming took place in the Cleveland, Ohio area back in 2022, and while we still don’t know when we’re going to have a chance to see Shelby Oaks, Deadline reports that genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan has just board the project, which is making its way through post-production, as an executive producer.
Flanagan’s previous credits include Absentia, Oculus, Hush, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and...

Shelby Oaks is currently in post-production, so we expect to hear more soon.
“Intrepid’s films and TV shows have inspired me for years, and it’s a dream come true to work with Mike and Trevor on my first feature,” said Stuckmann. “I’m ecstatic beyond words to partner on the release of Shelby Oaks.”
