Top 15: Films of 2015

Well here it is, my Top 15 films of 2015. If you’ve ever read one of my end of year lists, you’ll know that my choices tend to be a million miles away from the mainstream; and this year is no different! This year has been Amazing for films, I could easily had penned a list of 52 films – one for each week of the year – but instead I managed to narrow down the choices to 28 films quite swiftly. However, to hit this years target of a Top 15 (for 2015 geddit?) it took a hell of a lot of work. I think this list even surprises me – there’s a number of films that going back over the 508[!] films we’ve reviewed here on Nerdly in 2015, at the time I reviewed them, I didn’t expect would stay with me till the end of the very end of the year. Oh, and

Review: A Christmas Horror Story

A group of students investigating a grisly crime scene from a bloodbath that had previously happened; A couple venturing into the snow-covered woods with their child to cut down a Christmas tree and losing their son temporarily just to find him and learn that they might have brought back something else; Santa Claus having to fight and kill possessed elves and eventually Krampus himself. All of these stories, as well as one involving a family visiting a crotchety relative and a wraparound featuring a radio DJ played by William Shatner, fill up the Grant Harvey, Steven Hoban and Brett Sullivan-helmed holiday shocker, A Christmas Horror Story. A festively bloody film that, despite what some may assume, provides some of the most entertaining horror moments of the year.

While it seems like 2015 & 2016 could very well be the years filled with Krampus-themed horror, A Christmas Horror Story is one of those

Frightfest 2015: ‘A Christmas Horror Story’ Review

Stars: Zoe de Grand’Maison, Amy Forsyth, Adrian Holmes, George Buza, William Shatner | Written by Doug Taylor, Sarah Larsen, James Kee, Pascal Trottier | Directed by Grant Harvey, Brett Sullivan, Steven Hoban

Anthologies have made something of a comeback in recent years, at least in the horror genre, with films likes of V/H/S and its sequels, the low-budget Theatre of the Deranged and P.O.E.franchises, or films like The Theatre Bizarre and Trick r Treat, which both played at Frightfest events in the past, finding fans acros the globe. However despite this rebirth, the 80s are still the heyday of the horror anthology. Maybe that’s all about to change.

10 best films of Film4 FrightFest 2015

Luke Owen looks at this year’s FrightFest…

What a year this was. Every time FrightFest rolls around, the four madmen behind the festival promise the ‘best line-up ever’, and this year was no different. Each screen was packed out, there was plenty of surprises on offer and some great interviews with the likes of Barbara Crampton, Neil Marshall and Iain Softley.

As for the movies themselves, we had a great variety. From the terrifying (Demonic) to the utterly bizarre (Ahhhhh!) to the downright brilliant (Turbo Kid), there was something for everyone. There were arty films (Sun Choke), heart-breaking films (These Final Hours) and a movie where Santa Claus fights off zombie eleves (A Christmas Horror Story). What more could you ask for?

Well, here’s the 10 best films of the festival (in no order), according to Flickering Myth:

Tis the season to be gory! Christmas and horror are a strange combination that always seems to work. Since they days of Charles DickensA Christmas Carol (and going back further to different cultures’ tales), ghosts and monsters have been mixed with the time of peace on Earth and goodwill to all men. There’s something about mixing a supposedly joyous holiday with extreme violence and dark goings on. With Christmas being camper than…
