The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 16 Review: The Blob

The Last Man on Earth delivers another solid episode of the series, with a fun, new pairing and fantastic dramatic acting from Jason Sudeikis.

On The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 16, Mike wants to leave to search for the heat signature he found on his thermal reader. Meanwhile, Gail and Melissa avoid their supply shopping duties, and Erica and Todd argue over the color of the baby's nursery.

There was a lot to love about this episode, but my favorite part was the pairing of Melissa and Gail.

The two of them are rarely together, and I loved watching them team up to skirt their responsibilities to the house.

Mary Steenburgen and January Jones were great together, and I love when we get unique pairings like this.

It refreshes the show and always makes for an exciting episode.

Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad to Return for ‘Angry Birds Movie 2’ Voice Cast

Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad to Return for ‘Angry Birds Movie 2’ Voice Cast
Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, and Peter Dinklage are returning as voice cast for Sony Pictures’ “The Angry Birds Movie 2.”

Sony announced last year that it had set a Sept. 20, 2019, release date for “The Angry Birds Movie 2” — coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the hit video game. The studio is re-teaming with Finland-based Rovio Entertainment Ltd. for the animated sequel.

“Angry Birds” grossed a solid $350 million worldwide, including $107 million domestically. The film, directed by Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis, was set on an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – except for Red (voiced by Sudeikis), speedy Chuck (Gad), and Bomb (McBride). Hader returns as Leonard, king of the pigs, and Dinklage voices the Mighty Eagle.

Netflix’s 'Kodachrome' Was Inspired By a Headline

The star-studded cast of Netflix’s upcoming film Kodachrome showed up to celebrate Wednesday night as the film premiered at ArcLight Hollywood. The film, whose premise was ripped straight from the headlines, follows a dying father (Ed Harris), his son (Jason Sudeikis) and the father's nurse/personal assistant (Elizabeth Olsen) as they take a road trip from New York to Kansas to develop the father’s last rolls of Kodachrome before the country's final lab closes.

The writing process happened quickly for screenwriter Jonathan Trooper. “I happened to be on the Fox lot for something else and I popped by [producer and director] Shawn Levy’s...

‘Kodachrome’ Film Review: Ed Harris, Jason Sudeikis Make Grown Men Cry

‘Kodachrome’ Film Review: Ed Harris, Jason Sudeikis Make Grown Men Cry
Jason Sudeikis and Ed Harris develop a bittersweet portrait of an estranged father and son in Mark Raso’s “Kodachrome,” which hits Netflix on Friday after bowing at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Sudeikis’ trademark deadpan and salty dog Harris make for plenty of laughs in the dramedy, but some sneaky last minute redemption in Johathan Tropper’s script elevates this kind of standard festival fare.

At Tiff last September, TheWrap spotted more than few men choking back tears and sniffling into their blazers.

Sudeikis plays Matt, a stagnant indie music executive who has just lost another edgy rock client. Matt believes in the artist as a visionary, to quote Sudeikis’ character directly, in a music landscape filled with Edm and the white noise of social media.

It’s a belief system that fails him, and just as he learns of his imminent firing a nurse (Elizabeth Olsen) to his sick father turns up on his doorstep.

Harris plays a famous photographer with a terminal disease, and has requested his son pilot a road trip to Kansas, where he might develop decades-old photos at the last storefront in America to process Kodachrome film. Matt agrees, because Dad’s connections might help him save his career, but the acid flies the moment the men are reunited and pumps consistently throughout the trip.

“What have you done with your life?” father asks son after barely more than a handshake. Son gleefully responds that the only people left in dad’s life are employees, and soon enough he’ll deservedly die alone.

Olsen becomes inevitable romantic fodder for Sudeikis, though she has an interesting (if not under-explored) backstory as a self-saboteur divorcee. This is the Sudeikis-Harris show, and it really works.

When the foul-mouthed photographer succumbs to his illness, he mourns the loss of all the love he had for his once-infant son. Feeding Matt from a bottle in the middle of the night was the happiest he had ever been, he says, as he wonders aloud what broke inside of him and led him from that place. Cue waterworks.

It should be said that the film does not fetishize the dusty tech of years past, as the premise might suggest. There are plenty of relics like cassette tapes, beat-up Cabirolets, record players and of course Kodak cameras amnd film. None of the equipment is played up for cheap nostalgia.

If anything, that works in movie’s favor. There’s a moment when Sudeikis has to load a camera, and he recites a poem his dad taught him as a child to make sure the film catches and locks into place. It’s almost as tear-jerky as the hospital bed confessions.

'Blockers' Director: I Was Neighbors and Friends With Eliot Spitzer's Escort
I used to be married to Jason Sudeikis. At the time, he was writing on Saturday Night Live. I was in L.A. trying to make it as an actress and, like, doing the whole bicoastal thing. But once I got hired as a writer for 30 Rock, I moved to New York proper. As it turns out, we didn’t actually work in 30 Rock. We were in Queens. But it was still an amazing experience. You know when you think you’re in show business? And then you get a job, and you’re like, “Oh, no — now I’m in show...

The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 15 Review: Designated Survivors

The Last Man on Earth delivers as simple yet delightful chapter in the gang's story, with the return of Mike and an exciting announcement for Todd.

On The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 15, Mike returns, and Tandy is overjoyed to see his brother. Todd is nervous that Erica will want to have a baby with Mike instead, but he gets exciting news that Erica is pregnant with his child. Mike discovers a large and mysterious heat signature on his computer.

Jason Sudeikis was as perfect as I expected he would be.

I was devastated when we thought he died so I welcomed his return.

Sudeikis has a great rapport with Forte, and due to his charm, he fits in well with the rest of the gang.

Watch: Ben Stiller & Robert De Niro Reunite as Michael Cohen and Robert Mueller on ‘SNL’

Last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live was one of the best of the season, which is no surprise considering John Mulaney was the host. Mulaney cut his teeth as a writer on SNL for five years, working closely with folks like Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, and Jason Sudeikis during his tenure and co-creating the character of Stefon. After SNL, Mulaney has found great success in stand-up, so his hosting duties last night were a really touching “coming home” of sorts for the hilarious performer. The episode was so good that even the politically tinged cold open …

Caribbean and Central American Films Flourish Despite Headwinds

Caribbean and Central American Films Flourish Despite Headwinds
Hurricanes be damned. Film production is surging in the Caribbean and Central America despite natural – and some political – turmoil.

“The region’s film industry indeed feels more effervescent,” said Iff Panama artistic director Diana Sanchez.

Puerto Rico was the hardest hit by Hurricane Maria last September but that didn’t stop some projects from resuming production about a month later. First among them was Nick Hamm’s 1970s-set thriller “Driven,” starring Jason Sudeikis, Lee Pace and Corey Stoll, about auto maverick John DeLorean and the FBI drug sting operation that sought to take down the exec.

Co-produced by seasoned Puerto Rican producer Luillo Ruiz of the Pimienta Film Co., it took a good dose of creativity and vital connections to overcome myriad logistical issues. Just getting diesel, food and water was a challenge. With cell towers down, crew members were visited personally at their homes to get them back on board.
