Gavin Struthers is a freelance Director of Photography working worldwide. He was accepted for membership of the ASC in 2016 and the BSC in 2018.
Gavin discovered stills photography at an early age, developing and printing his own work before studying Graphics, Fine Art and Photography at UCA (UK).
He began a career as a Cinematographer following his graduation from the National Film & TV School where he was mentored by Freddie Francis BSC.He preceded to shoot a number of documentaries, researching and shooting his first project for Channel Four in 1997.
Gavin then moved into drama and commercials. Shooting on both Film and High Definition cameras, he was also the DOP on the BBC's first 3D HD broadcast, shot on Pananvision's Genesis Camera system.
Gavin has shot a diverse range of projects including: Outpost (Sony Pictures), Your Life in Their Hands (RTS award winner), Bafta award winning "Shameless" (C4), "Secret Diary Of A Call Girl" (ITV/Showtime), "Garrow's Law" (BBC/PBS), Golden Globe, Emmy and Bafta award winning "Downton Abbey" (ITV/PBS), "Endeavour" (TV Movie Pilot), "Shetland" (TV Pilot), "Foyles War" and Bafta award winning "Last Tango In Halifax" (BBC/PBS). Recently he has shot "The Alienist" for Paramount/TNT and "Nightflyers" for NBC Universal/Netflix.
Gavin has held Masterclasses in Cinematography in both London (for Arri) and Olso (for the Norwegian Society of Cinematographers).
