When the news broke that Goldeneye and Casino Royale director Martin Campbell had been hired to helm Green Lantern, it inspired a huge amount of confidence in the DC Comics adaptation. The 2011 movie had a lot going in its favour, but was ultimately a disappointment.
Very little about it worked; the special effects were subpar, the story was all over the place, and most agreed that Ryan Reynolds was miscast as the heroic Hal Jordan (Blake Lively also struggled to impress as Carol Ferris).
Talking to The Direct, Campbell reflected on the experience of shooting Green Lantern and revealed the one thing he believes would have made the movie "great."
"Oh, it's fair enough. You know, look, people didn't like it. It failed, right? I was the director, so, you know, obviously I take the heat for it, which is fine," he said of the response to the movie. "But all I can say is,...

While Hulu series “Nine Perfect Strangers” used Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name as the backbone of the Nicole Kidman-led series, Season 2 prompted the team — led by creator David E. Kelley — to go off-book as they crafted the second act of Nicole Kidman’s Masha Dmitrichenko.
Moriarty, who did not write a follow-up book to “Nine Perfect Strangers,” gave the team her blessing for a second installment of the series, which was renewed by Hulu for a Season 2 in June 2023, well after Season 1 first premiered in 2021. And since “Nine Perfect Strangers” first premiered nearly four years ago, EP Bruna Papandrea noted psilocybin (a.k.a. magic mushrooms) have been embraced tenfold, opening the door for countless stories unlocking past traumas.
“There’s no underlying material at all, no ongoing story,” Papandrea told TheWrap, noting that Season 2 picks up with Masha’s past controversies having been written about and publicized heavily.

Nicole Kidman's returning mystery thriller show on Hulu, Nine Perfect Strangers, has debuted to a disappointing critics score on Rotten Tomatoes after a divisive first season. Based on the 2018 book by Liane Moriarty, season 1 focuses on the exploits of guests at the health and wellness resort Tranquillum House in California, where they uncover mysteries about themselves and the center's founder, Masha Dmitrichenko (Kidman). While season 1 is based on the book, Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 sees the show take an anthology approach as new guests arrive at Tranquillum House, where new mysteries are set to unfold.
However, according to Rotten Tomatoes, critics have mixed thoughts on the new series. As of writing, Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 holds a 45% critics score on the site, based on 11 reviews. This is lower than season 1, which already holds a 59% critics score and 59% audience score. While the newest season has received mixed reception, it seems...

Nine Perfect Strangers marked Nicole Kidman's second Liane Moriarty adaptation after Big Little Lies, which premiered in 2021 as a limited series. Following its initial success, Hulu renewed the show for a second season, turning it into an anthology.
Kidman is officially back as resort director Masha Dmitrichencko with a series of brand-new guests. The series wasn't a big hit with the critics or the audience for the first season, and the second continues the same unfortunate trend. Ahead of its May 21 release on Hulu,Nine Perfect Strangers debuted with an unfortunate 44% score from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
The initial season followed nine guests arriving at a health and wellness resort called Tranquillum House, set in a fictional town in California. At the resort, the guests undergo unconventional healing and transformation through unsafe and illegal ways. The second season will take an anthology approach with a similar premise and...

No one expected Nine Perfect Strangers to receive a second season. What felt like a self-contained miniseries based on The New York Times best-selling book by Liane Moriarty certainly didn't warrant a second outing, although the green light was given, and fans could anticipate the return of Nicole Kidman's mysterious Masha Dmitrichenko. In fact, Masha would be the only character set for a return, as higher-ups hoped that a shake-up in the cast would help critical and public opinion change for the better a second time round, following mixed reviews the first.
Alas, that doesn't seem to have happened, with the first reviews now in on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, and the early scores are even worse than last time. Season 1 of the series currently holds a 59% rating from both critics and audiences, which, although far from impressive, is at least higher than both Holland and Babygirl's audience scores,...

HBO will submit four cast members from The Penguin for Emmy consideration, Gold Derby has confirmed.
Colin Farrell as Oswald "Oz" Cobb, aka the Penguin, is entering the Best Movie/Limited Series Actor category, as expected. Earlier this awards season, the Irish actor prevailed at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for playing the villainous DC Comics character. A victory at the Emmys would complete his sweep of top awards. A former Oscar nominee for The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), this would be his first career Emmy bid.
Cristin Milioti as Sofia Gigante (née Falcone) is being submitted for Best Movie/Limited Series Actress. She won the Critics Choice Award for this role, but lost at the Golden Globes to Jodie Foster (True Detective: Night Country) and at the SAG Awards to Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer). Milioti could receive her first two career Emmy noms this year,...

We could all use a little healing, and sometimes you have to use unconventional means to achieve serenity. That’s the philosophy of Masha Dmitrichenko (Nicole Kidman), a glamorous wellness guru who invites the wealthy and emotionally brittle to indulge in yoga, detoxes and micro-dosing, whether they like it or not. After the, uh, success of her previous retreat, she has moved shop to the Alps and invited a new group of seemingly unconnected strangers to the snow-covered mountains to receive her help.
Their consent to such treatment is, as always, optional.
Hulu had a major hit with “Nine Perfect Strangers,” becoming its most-watched original programming of all time upon its premiere. Of course, that meant a follow-up would be greenlit, even though it was initially intended as a miniseries. As a self-proclaimed president of the David E. Kelley fan club, I found the first season of Nine Perfect Strangers to be a stunning disappointment, especially considering the talent involved, both in front of and behind the camera. How many shows can boast a cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Michael Shannon, Melissa McCarthy, Regina Hall, and Luke Evans?
The result was a story that wandered aimlessly from character to character, plot point to plot point, and episode to episode, with no real purpose other than to showcase bizarre, head-scratching connections that felt more contrived than authentic. However, at the very least, the freshman outing was highly watchable—perfect for bingeing on Hulu.

Nearly four years after the first season of Nine Perfect Strangers, Nicole Kidman’s mysterious guru Masha is back for a second season, with a whole new batch of visitors.
This time the show is set in the snowy Alps and Christine Baranski, Henry Golding, Murray Bartlett, Annie Murphy, Mark Strong, King Princess and Dolly de Leon are among those playing the wellness-seekers at Masha’s retreat.

Two of the stylishly violent spy comedies in the Kingsman franchise are finding new life on Hulu, over ten years since the first film made its debut. The movies are based on the Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons comic book series of the same name.
FlixPatrol reports that two Kingsman movies are charting high on the Top Movies on Hulu worldwide list for May 14, 2025. The Secret Service is currently #3 on the charts, with its sequel, The Golden Circle, taking the #2 spot. The only movie performing better than the Kingsman franchise on Hulu right now is Summer of 69, the newly-released Hulu original starring Chloe Fineman and Sam Morelos.
Kingsman: The Secret Service was released theatrically in early 2015, launching the film series that follows Gary "Eggsy" Unwin (Taron Egerton) as he is recruited by Harry Hart (Colin Firth) into a secret spy organization known as Kingsman. The film was critically acclaimed for its dark humor,...

'Terminator: Dark Fate' Star Natalia Reyes Would Love To Return as Humanity’s New Savior, Dani Ramos

Just when you thought the apocalyptic franchise James Cameron created over 40 years ago was "terminated," think again. The cyborg-dominated universe recently saw a resurgence with the anime series Terminator Zero on Netflix, coming five years after the latest live-action film, Terminator: Dark Fate, which brought back Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and introduced an array of new characters, including one Dani Ramos.
Portrayed by Natalia Reyes, the embattled mom paralleled Sarah's story (at least we thought it did) with Sarah initially believing her to be the newest mother of humanity's savior following the death of John Connor. However, it is later revealed that Dani is, in fact, the new John, and is destined to be the one to pick up the mantle and lead humanity against the machines, with Sarah as her mentor. Just in time for Mommy Appreciation Day, Kerry Washington has just the movie for you. It has romance, it has family values... and it even has guns blazing. No, not figuratively. Fresh off her leading turn in Tyler Perry's The Six Triple Eight for Netflix, the Emmy-winning actress is back in action for another film where she means business. This time around, however, it's a little more fun, despite the hard R-rated violence and tense drama surrounding her embattled character's perpetual drive to protect her son.
From Lionsgate, Shadow Force sees Washington starring opposite the reliably appealing Omar Sy (Lupin). They play a pair of elite international assassins on the run from their former employer who has placed a $25 million bounty on their heads for ditching their organization to start a family. What a nerve. MovieWeb recently caught up with Washington to learn more about her exciting new action...

Let’s face it: Family life and being members of an elite assassination squad just don’t mix.
It’s hopefully a problem to which few readers can relate, but it afflicts the central characters of Joe Carnahan’s new action film, which quietly snuck into theaters without advance screenings. Kerry Washington and Omar Sy play Kyrah and Issac, who used to be members of the titular organization until they made the mistake of falling in love and having a baby. They’ve since gone rogue, but in a modern manner: Issac stays home and cares for their young son Ky (Jahleel Kamara, adorable), while Kyrah remains in the field to eliminate the many assassins who’ve been assigned to kill them for their transgression. As Issac explains to his son, he and Kyrah used to be bad guys, doing “God’s dirty work” around the globe before they realized...

Rule number one of running a secret, dangerous special forces group? Don’t fall in love with a coworker. Of course, that seems to be the easiest rule to break.
And that’s exactly what Kerry Washington and Omar Sy do in “Shadow Force,” their new film directed by Joe Carnahan. In it, they play two operatives who led an organization known as the Shadow Force, but when they fell in love and had a kid, they went into hiding.
Of course, no one can stay hidden forever, right? Here’s everything you need to know about the film.
What is the release date?
“Shadow Force” releases in theaters nationwide on May 9, 2025.
Is it streaming?
It is not. For now, you can only see “Shadow Force” in theaters and you can find showtimes near you here. We’ll keep you posted on when and where it’ll be streaming when the time comes.

At the outset, Shadow Force positions itself as a portrait of exile and allegiance: ex‑shadow operatives turned family on the run (one sentence logline). It wears the trappings of a high‑stakes spy thriller—gunmetal skies, clandestine radio chatter—yet pulses with the quiet anxieties of domestic drama.
Joe Carnahan—whose résumé boasts Smokin’ Aces and Boss Level—returns to familiar territory, trading gritty grain and blown‑out hues for a muted palette that feels less “artistic choice” than “entirely color‑blind” (an occasional downside of modern streaming aesthetics given theatrical release). Kerry Washington anchors the film as Kyrah, a mother driven by equal parts ferocity and guilt; Omar Sy’s Isaac pairs paternal warmth with calibrated lethality; and Mark Strong’s Jack Cinder looms as a cynical patriarch of bureaucracy and bullets.
The opening tableau is deceptively serene: Isaac teaching five‑year‑old Ky to hum Lionel Richie...

Plot: An estranged couple with a bounty on their heads must go on the run with their son to avoid their former employer, a unit of shadow ops that has been sent to kill them.
Review: Joe Carnahan‘s name really used to mean something in the action space. And I’d argue that he still does to some extent (with a ton of anticipation for his recently wrapped Affleck/Damon flick Rip). And I love that Kerry Washington is getting into the world of guns and mayhem. Sadly, their latest film, Shadow Force, fails to get me excited for either’s output in the genre, as it’s a pale retread of better films.
I was shocked by how much of Shadow Force consists of characters simply talking. When the whole plot is “former shadow ops are hunted down by their former team/employer” you expect a lot more action.

When a now-defunct celebrity couple attempted to make like Nick and Nora Charles meets “Mission: Impossible” in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” two decades ago, the high-concept, high-budget results were a mixed bag — which didn’t stop them from being imitated ever since. The latest duo to step into similar matching marital bulletproof vests is Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, playing globetrotting “elite special operators” now hiding from their former colleagues in “Shadow Force.”
It takes a certain esprit to pull off this kind of bombastic yet larky star vehicle. Joe Carnahan’s film provides passable diversion for a couple hours, but the fun to be had is limited by uninspired action staging, less-than-sparkling dialogue and a maudlin streak of the “It’s about family!!” type. Lionsgate’s theatrical release looks likelier to find its primary audience once it reaches home formats.
Kyrah (Washington) and Isaac (Sy) are a couple who met on the job.

If you know anything about Shadow Force, you’ll probably only know the badly over-photoshopped faces of Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, the corny font, and the basic design of the poster at your local movie theater. It seems like the type of film you can easily skip because if you’ve seen one terrible action flick, you’ve seen them all. For Shadow Force, think again. What lies underneath the cheap marketing is a surprisingly fun, exciting action flick with strong performances and a nice pace.
Shadow Force Review
Joe Carnahan has made a career out of ridiculous action flicks. Boss Level was a surprising standout in a deeply bland and frenetic library. Between this and the Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Steven Yeun starrer Rip that releases later this year on Netflix, Carnahan’s career is looking up.
Kerry Washington as Syrah and Jahleel Kamera as Ky in Shadow Force.

Released in 2002, Narc features late actor Ray Liotta in one of his most memorable roles. After 23 years, the writer and director of the film, Joe Carnahan, opened up on working Liotta.
Co-starring Jason Patrick alongside Liotta, Narc followed two detectives, who don't exactly do things by the book, investigating the murder of an undercover police officer. Looking back at the film in an interview with Grae Drake of Cbr to promote his newest movie, the action thriller Shadow Force, Caranahan recalled one particularly memorable moment on the set. While filming a scene with Liotta, Carnahan felt for the first time that he'd really made it with his career as a filmmaker.
"I mean, listen, Ray was a gem," Carnahan said. "When he did that scene in the car, in Narc, talking about his wife, it was the first time I felt like I was a filmmaker, you know, like I was a director.

Nicole Kidman is coming back to "treat" those looking for some help in Nine Perfect Strangers season 2. The first season of the drama was released all the way back in 2021, and we're so ready for more. Thankfully, it's coming soon and Hulu has released a trailer to give us an idea of what to expect!
Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 premieres Wednesday, May 21, 2025 with the first two episodes on Hulu. Now who's ready to check out that trailer? We shared it below!
What stands out most and has me super excited is the cast! Season 1 had some stellar stars, that's for sure. And this season is no different. There's some of my personal favorite actors too, which is always fun to see.

Nicole Kidman welcomes a new class of wellness hopefuls in the trailer for Nine Perfect Strangers Season Two. This time around, she is not more equipped to help them relax and release than she was in Season One.

Nicole Kidman reprises her role as Masha Dmitrichenko in the second season of Nine Perfect Strangers, premiering May 22, 2025, on Prime Video. The series introduces a new cast and a dramatic change of setting, with the retreat now located in the Austrian Alps. The first two episodes will launch together, followed by weekly releases through July 3.
Originally debuting in 2021 and based on the novel by Liane Moriarty, the series centers on nine people attending a week-long wellness retreat led by Masha, an enigmatic figure whose methods often blur ethical lines. This season brings together Christine Baranski, Murray Bartlett, Mark Strong, Annie Murphy, Henry Golding, Lena Olin, Lucas Englander, King Princess, Dolly de Leon, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and Aras Aydin.
The new retreat, called Zauberwald, isolates the participants in a mountainous landscape far from familiar surroundings. As they undergo intense therapy sessions, including the use of psychedelics, tensions mount between personal revelation and the strain of the environment.
