Movie News: Adam Sandler to Star in 'Uncut Gems'; Watch Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish in First 'Night School' Trailer

No other details have been revealed yet, beyond the title (Uncut Gems), though we hear that production is scheduled to begin this fall. Martin Scorsese will serve as one of the executive producers. [Deadline]   Saw: The eighth film in a long-running horror series, the modestly-budgeted Jigsaw (above) proved to be a financial success last fall, earning more than $100 million at the worldwide box office. The Writers of Jigsaw Are Working on Another Saw Sequel

A couple of months ago it was rumored that Lionsgate was going to be developing a ninth film in the Saw franchise. It shouldn't come as a surprise. Jigsaw was a big success for the studio, and as long as these Saw films keep raking in the cash, Lionsgate is going to continue to make sequel after sequel until finally, people stop watching them.

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that the studio is now actually moving forward with these plans and that they have hired the writers of Jigsaw, Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, to bring back that bloody magic. They are currently actively developing that script.

The report says they are "unsure if the next installment will be a direct followup to Jigsaw or Saw 3D: The Final Chapter." Aren't they part of the same story though, just with a different name? It's just going to be the ninth chapter in the horror franchise.

Ninth Saw Movie Reportedly In The Works With Jigsaw Scribes

Contrary to popular belief (and common sense?), Saw: The Final Chapter did not signal the end of Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate’s cult horror franchise. And neither did Jigsaw, it seems.

Sources close to Bloody Disgusting suggest Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3D, Sorority Row) are currently in the midst of developing a ninth Saw movie, though it’s unclear if this continuation will be angled as a direct sequel to Jigsaw or The Final Chapter – or something else entirely.

What we can tell you, however, is that Jigsaw helmers Michael and Peter Spierig will not be returning to the director’s chair, meaning the Powers That Be will likely be sending out the feelers to find a potential replacement(s), if they haven’t already.

Buoyed by the return of John Kramer (Tobin Bell), Jigsaw scored $102 million off the back of a $10 million production budget back in October,

‘Jigsaw’ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Callum Keith Rennie, Clé Bennett, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Tobin Bell, Laura Vandervoort, Paul Braunstein, Mandela Van Peebles, Brittany Allen, Josiah Black, Edward Ruttle, Michael Boisvert, Sam Koules, Troy Feldman, Shaquan Lewis | Written by Pete Goldfinger, Josh Stolberg | Directed by Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig

To be fair to the Saw movies, it was no surprise that they would eventually bring it back; and when Jigsaw was announced, one of the main questions had to be how to bring back John Kramer (Tobin Bell)? If he was brought back at all? Well now we have our answer…

When bodies start turning up around the city, it seems that Jigsaw may have returned. With him being dead though, is it the work of a copycat, or has Kramer somehow returned from the grave ten years after his reign of terror?

If you were a fan of the original Saw films

Jigsaw: where does the Saw franchise go from here?

Ryan Lambie Mar 2, 2018

As Jigsaw lands on disc in the UK, we look at how the Saw franchise shifted from its roots, and where it goes from here...

Nb: The following contains spoilers for the Saw movies.

He's quite the renaissance man, John Kramer. Also known as the Jigsaw Killer, he's a master of engineering, miraculously good at time management, and a savant when it comes to predicting human behaviour. In short, he's the all-knowing Dungeon Master of the Saw franchise. Even death can't halt Kramer's murderous antics; in the later films in the series, a bunch of acolytes took up the reigns and staged the torturous locked-room challenges for him.

A genius though Kramer is (or was), there's one thing he couldn't control,

Blu-ray Review – Jigsaw (2017)

Jigsaw, 2017.

Directed by Michael Spierig & Peter Spierig.

Starring Matt Passmore, Tobin Bell, Callum Keith Rennie, Clé Bennett, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Josiah Black, and Mandela Van Peebles.

Synopsis:

A series of grisly murders point to Jigsaw killer John Kramer as the suspect but he has been dead for 10 years… hasn’t he?

So with the inevitability that comes when one of your franchise movies has the subtitle ‘The Final Chapter’, the Saw franchise is resurrected to continue into a new era of horror movies, only this time under the guise of Jigsaw, just to let you know that – box office receipts depending – this is not just a continuation of the horror franchise that defined the 2000s but a new take on what is now regarded as a classic series that we can look back upon with the same nostalgic affection that we give Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Jigsaw Secretly Sets Up Saw 9 and Future Sequels

After seven years, Lionsgate finally brought back the Saw franchise with Jigsaw last fall, and it seems there are already plans for for Saw 9. While promoting the home video release of Jigsaw, directors Peter Spierig and Michael Spierig revealed that certain aspects in Jigsaw actually set the foundation for Saw 9 and the future of the franchise. Here's what Peter Spierig had to say when asked about how this movie sets up Saw 9.

"There's a lot of things that go on in Jigsaw that we talked about where they could go in further movies, and so there's things with the characters and ideas that have the foundations of other things that could potentially come in the next couple of movies. You want to make the movie itself a complete experience for the audience, a satisfying experience in terms of the story, of feeling like there is a conclusion. But at the same time,

Watching the 'Jigsaw' Twist Unfold Is an Existential Experience

Watching the 'Jigsaw' Twist Unfold Is an Existential Experience
[Warning: This story contains spoilers for Jigsaw]

Jigsaw, the seventh sequel in the seemingly deathless Saw horror series, enters theaters with a lot of baggage. And, to be fair, co-directors Michael and Peter Spierig (Daybreakers, Predestination) and co-writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3D, Sorority Row) do half-heartedly downplay some of the more tedious elements that have come to define the earlier Saw movies.

For starters, the "torture" aspect of the fatal death-trap "tests" that serial killer John "Jigsaw" Kramer (franchise staple Tobin Bell) puts his victims through is taken down several notches. Jigsaw features far fewer — and...

Jigsaw: explaining the ending of the new Saw film

Rob Leane Oct 29, 2017

Spoilers! If you’re scratching your chin after watching Jigsaw, here’s our spoiler-filled attempt to explain it...

This article contains spoilers for Jigsaw.

The trailers for Jigsaw presented Saw fans with a mystery: if Tobin Bell’s John Kramer is dead, how come there is a new batch of Jigsaw victims just now beginning to emerge? Various fan theories were available, but in the end, only one of them could be true.

This is your final warning: after this image of our spoiler squirrel, we’re going deep into Jigsaw spoilers...

To continue the franchise even further following John Kramer’s death, Jigsaw uses two classic storytelling devices from the Saw playbook: the new film teaches us that Jigsaw had one more secret apprentice, and it uses flashbacks to showcase yet another house of horrors concocted, built and inhabited by John prior to his death.

Jigsaw Review

It’s been six Billy-less Halloweens since Saw 3D closed the book on John Kramer’s legacy, but now – after executive consideration (aka “Who wants more money?”) – the Spierig Brothers look to scare-up familiar box office treats this October with Jigsaw. Seven straight years of torture-porn bloodletting (2004-2010), six years off – writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg should have Loads of sanguine grotesqueness stockpiled. That’s Lionsgate’s hook, right? You wouldn’t reboot an iconic horror franchise without good reason. Shock audiences, defy expectations and explore uncharted grounds. Prove that we need Kramer and company back in our lives! Don’t just toy with the same franchise devices Saw fans are used to – exactly like y’all did.

For this eighth go-around, five subjects find themselves trapped in a barn under “Jigsaw’s” control. Wait – didn’t Jigsaw die in Saw III? We saw it! That’s the mystery

Jigsaw, the upcoming eighth movie in the very successful horror series, arrives in theaters just in time for Halloween after a very long absence. Now, Lionsgate has released the first clip from Jigsaw, which reveals a deadly and dangerous, yet familiar looking, game.

The clip is one that has been teased in the Jigsaw trailer and TV spots, which sees five strangers with buckets on their heads, and the clip is appropriately titled Bucket Heads, chained up in a room facing impending doom. The very familiar voice of John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, plays over the intercom and reveals that a tribute of blood must be made in order for the unlucky subjects to survive. Then, the chains connected to their buckets start pulling them
