Barbara won one of five fellowships from the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting's 2013 competition with her script, Sugar In My Veins. During the awards ceremony, a portion of the screenplay was performed live before a full house at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills by Elle Fanning and Anton Yelchin, directed by Rodrigo Garcia.
