Joseph Stein was born on May 30, 1912 in Bronx, New York City, New York, USA. He was a writer and producer, known for Fiddler on the Roof (1971), Enter Laughing (1967) and The DuPont Show of the Month (1957). He was married to Elisa Loti and Sadie Singer. He died on October 24, 2010 in Manhattan, New York City.

Trivia (2)

At the time of his death, he was working on a new musical entitled "Heaven Can Wait".
He earned a master's degree in social work at Columbia University, and had a career in social work for several years. Then he met actor Zero Mostel through a mutual friend. Mostel said he need comic material for a radio show, and Stein had an off-the-cuff idea. Mostel paid him $15 for it, and his writing career was underway.
