Winter Is Coming...Just A Bit Later For HBO's A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms As The Spin-Off Moves To 2026
Image
Unfortunate news has emerged for fans eager to return to Westeros as Warner Bros. Discovery has officially pushed back the release of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series.

Speaking during the company's recent upfronts, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, confirmed that the show will now premiere in early 2026 instead of the originally planned late 2025 window.

The six-episode first season, which adapts George R.R. Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight, is now targeting a debut sometime between January and March 2026.

Set about 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series will follow the legendary journey of Ser Duncan the Tall—better known as Dunk—and his unlikely companion, the young Aegon V Targaryen, affectionately called Egg. Their tale of friendship, knighthood, and hidden lineage unfolds against the backdrop of a realm still reeling from Targaryen rule.

Game of Thrones (2011)
HBO pushes A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms series into 2026
Game of Thrones (2011)
The upcoming Game Of Thrones spin-off A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms won’t now be landing in 2025 as anticipated. More here.

As summer rolls around, we’ve been patiently waiting for a release date for HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms. At some point soon, we imagined a shiny trailer landing and some tantalising footage of Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, sweeping us towards the expected release date later this year.

That’s not the case, it seems. According to Variety, the show’s launch has been pushed back into 2026 and so our wait must go on. The show officially began production last summer, and it looks like for whatever reason, won’t be ready in time to debut in 2025.

Whilst an early 2026 release date is said to be on the cards, it still seems like a real miss to us.

‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Shifts Premiere to 2026
Image
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” – the latest “Game of Thrones” spinoff – has shifted its release to early 2026, the network announced during Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation on Wednesday.

No official release date has been set, though Wbd previously teased a late 2025 premiere for the offshoot of George R.R. Martin’s hit franchise. The delay was revealed in a first look at the series that screened exclusively during the presentation. The trailer ended with a title card that read “2026.” Before that, HBO president and CEO Casey Bloys hinted at a winter release for the show — meaning it will likely premiere early in the year.

The series is based off a collection of novellas from author George R.R. Martin that follows the adventures and misadventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and his young squire Egg — who becomes the future King Aegon V Targaryen.

'GoT' Spin-Off 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Delayed to 2026
Image
Bad news for Game of Thrones fans, as the next spin-off scheduled to be released on HBO, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has been delayed. The spin-off, based on one of George R.R. Martin's novellas, was first announced back in 2022, following the franchise-saving success of House of the Dragon. HotD reignited passion in the franchise after the abysmal ending of Game of Thrones' eighth season.A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is one of the most hotly anticipated spin-offs among die-hard readers, but our journey to Westeros will have to wait a little longer.

The news comes via a Variety report, which confirmed when A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will debut on HBO and Max. Technically, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was never given an official release date — meaning it's less of a delay and more of a disappointing release date announcement. But HBO marketing and teasers from earlier this year,...

HBO’s Next Game of Thrones Spinoff Gets Hit With a Major Setback (& Fans Won’t Be Happy)
Image
Game of Thrones fans will be waiting a bit longer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The hotly anticipated spinoff series has just had its premiere window pushed back into next year.

Per Variety, during Warner Bros. Discovery's upfront presentation to advertisers at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the company announced that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms would no longer premiere towards the end of this year. Instead, the spinoff will now debut on HBO in 2026. First announced in 2023, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on George R. R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg fantasy novellas — The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight (2010).

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place roughly 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones and 100 years after the events of House of the Dragon, following two unlikely heroes who wandered Westeros — "a young,...

‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Shifts to 2026 Release
Image
“Game of Thrones” fans will have to wait a while longer to head back to Westeros, as the premiere of new spinoff series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” has now been slated for 2026.

While no official premiere date was ever set, Warner Bros. Discovery execs had previously said that the series, the second HBO prequel to “Game of Thrones” following “House of the Dragon,” would air by the end of 2025.

On Wednesday, the news of the show’s push to 2026 was revealed via a first look at the “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” trailer that was shown during Wbd’s upfront presentation to advertisers at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The title card at the end of the footage said “2026,” but HBO content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys narrowed that down further on stage by saying the show was coming in the “winter” when he cued up the teaser,...

Image
Game of Thrones fans’ gather up. George Rr Martin has given another amazing update about the ever-expanding universe of the long-running franchise. While we know the third season of House of the Dragon is now in production, Martin teased A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will tell the story of Duncan and Egg, in his latest blog post. While we have seen a small tease of the upcoming show, only concrete details have come from Martin by far.

Adding to the long list of reveals he has made about the show, the fan-favorite author revealed that he’s quite impressed by the final cuts of the series: “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms will come first. Six episodes, the HBO adaptation of the first Dunk & Egg novella, “The Hedge Knight,”” he wrote adding,

“I just watched it again last week, the latest cuts. It’s looking good, I think.

Every Main Actor Confirmed For A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight
Image
Warning: The following contains minor spoilers from George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novels

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is the latest spinoff of George R.R. Martin's beloved world that promises to be closer in style to what made Game of Thrones special in its prime: excellent storytelling and fascinating characters. With fewer special effects and a sharper focus on character development, this show might deliver exactly what Game of Thrones fans have been missing in House of the Dragon.

Martin visited the sets during filming and couldn't contain his enthusiasm. He raved about the performances and how faithfully the showrunners stayed true to his novella. He expressed particular delight in seeing these two protagonists — characters very close to his heart — brought to life with such care and authenticity. Below is a guide to the most important characters and their roles in...

'Game of Thrones' Spin-Off 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Renewed for Season 2
Image
The Game of Thrones extended universe is continuing to expand, as George R.R. Martin just gave a major update on the franchise's newest show. As well as Season 3 of House of the Dragon and several other new spin-offs currently in development, HBO is also working on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which adapts one of Martin's smaller stories set in Westeros. Season 1 of the new series, which stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, a.k.a. Dunk is set to premiere sometime this year. But, HBO apparently has a lot of confidence in the latest series having a long future.

During an interview with Collider, George R.R. Martin took more time away from writing The Winds of Winter to promote A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. "I've seen Dunk and Egg, the first season, and it's great," Martin began. The new show is set around 90 years before Game of Thrones,...

‘The Thing With Feathers’ Review: Benedict Cumberbatch Fights His Dark Side In A Powerful Portrayal Of Grief – Sundance Film Festival
Image
Crows rustle in Dylan Southern’s fiction feature debut, the haunting story of a middle-aged man coming to terms with the sudden and unexpected death of his wife, the mother of his two boys. In terms of genre, it’s hard to place, sitting somewhere between social drama and heightened horror; if Ken Loach dreamed up The Babadook, it might look something like this. Southern — previously known for such heady, experiential and you-are-there music docs as Shut Up and Play the Hits (2012) and Meet Me in the Bathroom (2022) — brings the visceral immediacy of those films to a very raw and emotional subject matter. For all the artistry behind it, however, The Thing with Feathers will likely prove divisive; for survivors of trauma, it will likely be cathartic, but for others more fortunate, its pitch-perfect portrayal of loss might be a touch too uncomfortable.

This is one of those films where...

Sundance 2025: 5 Most Thrilling Horror Films That Are Sure To Blow Us Away
Image
One of the best aspects of the Sundance Film Festival is its Midnight Section, which typically brings a variety of horror films that are ready and waiting to make us jump or curl away from the screen in disconcertment. In 2024, Steven Soderbergh’s Presence, a uniquely told ghost story, surprised and awed, while Infinity Pool disgusted and disturbed. This year’s Sundance Film Festival has plenty of new and exciting horror offerings that are sure to have audiences talking.

When it comes to horror, festival movies are inventive, taking the genre to places we have never been to before. That was the case with last year’s I Saw the TV Glow, which managed to maintain interest long after its Sundance debut. We can never have too much horror, as it’s a genre with plenty to say and where creativity can truly soar. Sundance’s 2025 lineup looks to be...

Valerian Cast & Character Guide: Where You've Seen The Actors Before
Image
Content Warning: The following article contains mention of rape.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets may not be the most well-known movie, but the Valerian cast is certainly stacked with A-list talent. Based on the French science fiction comic series Valérian and Laureline and released in 2017, the movie takes place in the 28th century and centers on two operatives, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are tasked with traveling to the peaceful Alpha, the City of a Thousand Planets, to complete a mission. However, when an unknown force threatens the future of the entire universe, Valerian and Laureline must race against time to stop them.

Valerian had a hefty budget of over $177 million (via Box Office Mojo) and has the distinction of being both the most expensive independent movie and European movie ever made. Unfortunately, Valerian failed to make a splash at the box office, grossing just over $225 million worldwide,...

Luc Besson's 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets' Comes to Max
Image
Known for redefining the action genre with his distinctive style, Luc Besson boasts a résumé that includes movies like The Fifth Element and Léon: The Professional. The renowned French director took his sweet time in the 1990s to build a reputation for himself with his visually striking, genre-defying movies. However, the director’s ambition took a wild turn with his 2017 sci-fi epic, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which is set to arrive on Max on January 17, 2025.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is a sprawling, idiosyncratic adventure of sorts. It follows the exploits of Valerian and Laureline, a pair of United Human Federation soldiers in the 28th century who are tasked with maintaining order throughout the human territories. However, when danger looms overhead, Valerian and Laureline must race against time to protect the City of a Thousand Planets and the fate of the universe.

Kendrick has such a versatile filmography that her movies vary pretty heavily in quality, with some being honored during the awards season and others mostly remaining in comfort food guilty pleasure cinema. Game Of Thrones: Aemon Targaryen's Family Tree, Explained
Image
Few things can challenge fans of George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" franchise quite like the Targaryen family tree — and for good reason. As depicted in his books and the HBO shows "Game of Thrones" and "House of the Dragon," the Targaryen clan were once sprawling and powerful. However, their penchant for incest and a civil war between the Targaryen factions led to them being almost entirely wiped out by the events of "Game of Thrones." While there are enough fierce, dragon-riding Targaryens around in "House of the Dragon" that it's a struggle to keep our Aegons straight, there are only a couple of Targaryens left two centuries later when Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) hatches three dragon eggs and brings dragons back for the first time since the civil war.

There's one Targaryen who got to see not only the fall of the Targaryen dynasty...

The 10 Best TV Episodes of 2024
Image
Best episodes lists often tend to be dominated, these days, by the flashy, format-breaking standalone installments that most great prestige programs seem to unveil once or twice per season.

Our list does, indeed, include a couple of those. We’ve got flashbacks, tonal detours and feature-length episodes that reframe everything we thought we understood about the season or the shows themselves. But we also have some a couple of premieres, a finale or two and just some darned good regular episodes representing the best that the shows have to offer, rather than trying out something new or different. We’ve got animation, documentary and foreign television, plus some comedies, some dramas and whatever The Bear is.

Please note that no matter what the headline here says, this isn’t precisely a “best episodes” list at all. If a show made either of our respective Top 10 lists, we deemed it ineligible...

‘Game Of Thrones’ Author George R.R. Martin Hints At New Project With Maisie Williams
Image
George R.R. Martin is teasing a project with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams.

The author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the fantasy novel that inspired the HBO drama series created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, hinted he was working with Williams on something.

“We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about — well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it,” Martin wrote in his blog as he recounted his travels in London. “But it could be so much fun.”

Martin didn’t specify what the project with Williams was about or whether it involved a Game of Thrones sequel. Williams played Arya Stark throughout the show’s eight-season run on HBO.

HBO head Casey Bloys commented earlier in the day on how it to work with Martin on the multiple projects set in the Game of Thrones universe.

George R.R. Martin has nothing but praise for the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, saying that book readers will love it. Martin is the author behind the seminal A Song of Ice & Fire series, as well as several spin-off books, including Fire & Blood (which was adapted into House of the Dragon) and more. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Everything We Know So Far
Image
Alas, the end of 2024 is drawing closer, and another Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, waits in the wings of 2025.

This particular prequel is an exciting prospect for the keen and savvy book readers out there.

Given what we know of the books, Max’s latest outing (Max is on a roll heading into 2025) should easily develop into a multi-series story.

(Courtesy of Max/Teaser Screenshot)

There are three books in the Dunk and Egg series (the nicknames given to two of the story’s primary characters), and their story is set some hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones.

In fact, Dunk (short for Duncan) interacted with one of the characters every Game of Thrones viewer is familiar with.

‘Fargo,’ ‘True Detective: Night Country,’ ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ Creators On How Their Shows Are All Somehow Connected
Image
“Fargo” exec producer Noah Hawley is currently busy at work on the new series “Alien: Earth” for FX. But if he had time, the show he’d really like to work on is “True Detective.”

“Oh my God. Let’s do it,” said “True Detective: Night Country” exec producer Issa Lopez. Added Hawley: “I would only do it with you.”

Hawley, Lopez and “Lessons in Chemistry” exec producer Lee Eisenberg sat down recently with Variety’s Virtual FYC Fest: The Nominees to discuss their Emmy nods in limited or anthology series — and found some interesting connections between their shows.

“What I loved about what Issa did was to take this sort of magic realism and really expand that idea that was always present in ‘True Detective,’ the extreme location and creating a mystery that is both literal and metaphorical,” Hawley said. “I think that’s always really interesting.

Speaking of connections,...
