Watch an Exclusive Clip from Tailgate
Now available in select theaters, virtual cinemas, vod, and digital services is Tailgate, a tense road trip film that Emily highly recommended after recently seeing it as part of the North Bend Film Festival. Here's a brand new clip we've been given exclusively for Daily Dead readers:

"Hans, his wife and two young children, hit the highway on a trip to visit family. After getting stuck behind a slow-moving van, he recklessly starts to antagonize the eerily stoic driver, blaring the horn and riding his bumper. Little does he realize that he’s just crossed the wrong motorist – a deranged madman who sets out to teach Hans a lesson he’ll not soon forget. Lured into an alarming game of vehicular cat and mouse, a simple family road trip turns into a deadly obstacle course in this nerve-wracking, pulse-pounding thriller, an Official Selection at the Sitges Film Festival and FrightFest.

North Bend Film Festival 2021 Review: Tailgate is a Tense and Entertaining Road Rage Thriller

North Bend Film Festival 2021 Review: Tailgate is a Tense and Entertaining Road Rage Thriller
Remember family road trips? Piling into the car and taking off for new and exciting destinations. You would eat an assortment of road snacks, your parents might be arguing about the route and the best way to get where you’re going. You and your sibling would be fighting in the back seat, because they set a finger over the invisible line and dared enter your side of the car. And then, out of nowhere, some random stranger begins following your family all over the freeway, threatening you with a can of poison and a spray gun.

Maybe that’s not how your family vacations went, but it’s exactly what happens in Lodewijk Crijns’s Dutch thriller Tailgate. The film is a tense road rage movie that is equal parts psycho stalker flick and family vacation drama.

As the film opens, Hans (Jeroen Spitzenberger) is desperately trying to corral

Dutch Morality Tale Dark Comedy Thriller 'Tailgate' New US Trailer

Dutch Morality Tale Dark Comedy Thriller 'Tailgate' New US Trailer
Don't tailgate... or else!! Film Movement has released an official US trailer for a Dutch dark comedy dark thriller titled Tailgate, originally known as Bumperkleef in Dutch, which is probably an even better title than the English translation. A cocksure, road-raging family man finds himself pursued and terrorized by the vengeful van driver he chose to tailgate. Now they're in big trouble. "The van driver turns out to be the wrong man to cross on the road, and sets out to teach Hans a deadly lesson. Skillfully pushing the buttons of Hans's arrogance, a simple family road trip turns into a deadly obstacle course in this nerve-wracking, blackly comic morality tale thriller." Bumperkleef features Jeroen Spitzenberger, Anniek Pheifer, and Willem de Wolf. Between this and The Columnist, the Dutch seem to have a knack for mocking social situations in very dark and violent ways, while somehow making us laugh at the same time.

Tailgate Review – FrightFest 2020

Tailgate Review – FrightFest 2020
Every now and then, a particularly ferocious type of thriller comes along that knocks everyone for six; even the most weathered horror fan struggles to play dumb. The sort of film that’s so densely drenched in dread that it leaves you jumping, barking, screaming along with the characters and begging for some level of respite, that you just know will likely never come. Enter Dutch nerve-shredder Tailgate, a road-rage movie on a mission to make sure you never look at a white van in the same way again.

Also known by the even catchier Bumperkleef in its native Netherlands, Lodewijk Crijns’ thriller kicks off a bit like Spielberg’s Duel, with extra oomph. Hyper-macho family man Hans (Jeroen Spitzenberger) picks a fight where he probably shouldn’t, but the result is far from a casual fender-bender, when the wronged party (Willem de Wolf’s ‘Ed’) doesn’t just give chase,

Tailgate - Jennie Kermode - 16324

Mention a film in which a car driver falls foul of the driver of a larger vehicle, who won't stop pursuing him, and most people will immediately think of Stephen Spielberg's Duel. This film, however, really could not be more different. It's set on the busy roads of the Netherlands, where other vehicles are rarely out of sight. The car driver has his wife and children with him and the dispute is, at least to an extent, clearly the car driver's fault.

That driver is Hans (Jeroen Spitzenberger), already in a bad mood when his journey begins because his daughters have taken ages to get organised, his wife keeps asking for a few more minutes and he doesn't want to think about how annoyed his mum will be with him if they're late. It shouldn't be a very long drive but with traffic, you never can tell. Whenever gaps open up.
