Apple Teams With Sesame Workshop to Develop Kids’ Programming

Apple is getting into children’s programming.

The streamer is teaming up with Sesame Workshop to create a new slate of kids’ programming for Worldwide Video, led by Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht. The content will be wholly original — and will not include “Sesame Street,” which has its own separate deal at HBO and also airs on PBS.

Under the multi-series order, Sesame Workshop — the nonprofit educational organization behind “Sesame Street” — will produce live-action and animated series, as well as develop a puppet series for Apple. Over the course of its 50-year history, Sesame Workshop won more Daytime Emmys

Kristen Wiig Exits Reese Witherspoon-Produced Apple TV Comedy Series
Kristen Wiig is stepping down as star of the half-hour comedy series being developed for Apple by Reese Witherspoon, due to scheduling conflicts with the production of the “Wonder Woman” sequel, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. The show is now on hold as Apple and the show’s producers consider their options, including finding a new lead actress.

Inspired by Curtis Sittenfeld’s upcoming short story collection “You Think It, I’ll Say It,” the project from Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine received a 10-episode order, and was set to become Apple’s first half-hour scripted comedy. Wiig signed onto the series when it was ordered in January, and was set to executive produce as well as star.

Apple Orders ‘Little America’ Anthology Series From ‘Big Sick’ Duo, Lee Eisenberg

Apple has officially ordered the immigrant anthology “Little America” to series.

The half-hour series is based on true stories from Epic Magazine. It will explore the funny, romantic, heartfelt, inspiring, and surprising stories of immigrants in America. “The Office” alum Lee Eisenberg will write and executive produce along with “The Big Sick” writers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. Eisenberg will also serve as showrunner. Alan Yang, co-creator of the Netflix series “Master of None,” will also executive produce. Joshuah Bearman and Joshua Davis will executive produce for Epic Magazine, alongside co-executive producer Arthur Spector. Universal Television will produce.

Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon's Little America Greenlit at Apple

The huddled masses yearning to breathe free just nabbed a series order.

Apple has given the green light to Little America, a half-hour anthology series based on real-life stories of immigrants who have migrated to the United States, TVLine has learned.

Chris Evans Calls Out Octavia Spencer For Her Not-So-Happy Birthday Wish, and We're Dying

Chris Evans marked his 37th birthday on June 13, and a handful of stars took to Twitter to congratulate him. Apple Nabs Oprah in Latest A-List Grab

Apple just got Own’d.

Oprah Winfrey has entered a multi-year content partnership with the tech company, Apple announced Friday.

The producer/actress/talk-show host/force of nature will join Apple in creating “original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world,” per the official release.

Winfrey’s projects will be part of Apple’s robust slate of original content, which includes a Reese Witherspoon/Jennifer Aniston-starring series set at a morning talk show, a comedy featuring Hailee Steinfeld as poet Emily Dickinson, and dramas from directors Damien Chazelle (La La Land) and M. Oprah Winfrey, Apple Sign Multi-Year Content Partnership

Apple and Oprah Winfrey have a signed a multi-year content partnership. Under the deal, Winfrey and Apple will create programs that will be released as part of Apple’s original content lineup.

The deal marks one of the first such agreements struck between Apple and a content creator. Previously, Apple set an overall deal with veteran showrunner Kerry Ehrin. Ehrin will also serve as the showrunner on Apple’s upcoming morning show drama series starring and executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

Apple TV’s upcoming thriller series Are You Sleeping has just gained several stars. Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) joins the series as the male lead while Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us), Elizabeth Perkins (Weeds), Mekhi Phifer (ER), Michael Beach (Sons of Anarchy), Tracie Thoms (Rent) and Haneefah Wood (One Day at a Time) have also been cast.

Are You Sleeping will see Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex) as Josie Burchman, a young woman who is trying to hide the secrets of her past. Aaron Paul, Ron Cephas Jones Round Out Cast of Apple’s ‘Are You Sleeping’

Apple has finished filling up the cast of its upcoming thriller series “Are You Sleeping” with big names like Aaron Paul and “This Is Us” star Ron Cephas Jones, an individual with knowledge of the casting tells TheWrap.

Elizabeth Perkins (“Weeds), Mekhi Phifer (“ER,” “8 Mile”), Tracie Thoms (“Rent,” “UnReal”), Michael Beach (“Aquaman”) and Haneefah Wood (“Baskets,” “One Day at a Time”) have also been added to the line-up of the tech giant’s new project — one of several they are doing in collaboration with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine banner. The two previously announced leads are Octavia Spencer and Lizzy Caplan.

Are You Sleeping” is created and written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman (who will serve as showrunner) and based on the true-crime novel by Kathleen Barber, which focuses on America’s obsession with true-crime podcasts.
