- Other worksSmoot got his start as a cinematographer on many of the classic "church films" produced during the 1970s at BYU for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His films while there include: The Emmett Smith Story (1979), Uncle Ben (1978), The Mailbox (1977), John Baker's Last Race (1976), The Lost Manuscript (1974) and Cipher in the Snow (1974).
