True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

Kevin Smith’s new film, The 4:30 Movie, has been shot and has now been snapped up for distribution worldwide: more here.
Rest is not on the agenda for Kevin Smith, who in recent times has invested in the cinema he frequented when he was younger, rebranding it The Smodcastle Cinemas. He co-owns the site, and also shot a film there by the name of The 4:30 Movie.
Starring Austin Zajur, Nicholas Cirillo and Reed Northrup, The 4:30 Movie is described as a 1986-set comedy of age comedy, centred on three 16-year old chums who sneak into the movies every Saturday. What’s this, though? One of them, one day, invites a girl? Honestly. Tsk. Etc. She’s played by Siena Agudong, and also in the cast are Justin Long, Harley Quinn Smith, Keon Jeong and Jason Lee.
Kevin Smith has, of course, in recent times been successfully making low budget films on his terms,...

Saban Films announced today the acquisition of worldwide rights to the upcoming comedy The 4:30 Movie, directed and written by Kevin Smith.
Set in the summer of 1986, The 4:30 Movie is a coming-of-age story about three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local multiplex. But when one of the guys also invites the girl of his dreams (Siena Agudong) to see the latest comedy, each of the teens will learn something serious about life and love before the credits roll.
Set in the mobile phoneless, social media-free era of the ’80s, Smith shot The 4:30 Movie at his Smodcastle Cinemas in New Jersey—the same movie theater he haunted every weekend as a teenager. Two years ago, Smith and his co-owners saved the century-old Atlantic Highlands bijou from demolition, renaming it after his podcast theater.

Well-versed in the modern period drama with a twist, director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, The Favourite) had a simple edict for the costume design of Poor Things. As British costume designer Holly Waddington notes, “He didn’t want it to be like a period drama, he didn’t want it to be like a sci-fi film, and he didn’t want it to be too ‘fashiony.’ ” The result is Age of Innocence meets surrealism meets couture.
Adapted from Alasdair Gray’s novel, Searchlight’s Poor Things is a fantastical feminist fairy tale on steroids, where the character Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) is brought back to life with the brain of an inquisitive, no-holds-barred toddler by the Frankensteinish Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Set against a backdrop of London, Lisbon, Paris and Alexandria, the costumes support the narrative of a young woman’s social and sexual awakening.

Freeform will not be moving forward with new seasons of “Cruel Summer” and “Good Trouble,” Variety has confirmed.
An anthology series, Season 2 of of “Cruel Summer” followed the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. “Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward,” reads the official description.
After making waves with its explosive first season (which averaged multiplatform+35 viewership of 6.8 million viewers per episode) that quickly became the network’s most-watched series ever, Freeform followed up the performance with a fast Season 2 renewal in 2021 — a move Freeform president Tara Duncan called an “easy decision” at the time.

"Tusk" was a theatrical experience that I will never forget. The trailer did not give much away, and it was difficult to tell whether Kevin Smith was aiming for parody or serious horror. Was this really about someone being held captive by a seaman with an affinity for walruses? The idea for "Tusk" began with a SModcast episode where Smith and his friend/producer Scott Mosier poked fun at a classified advertisement made by a homeowner who offered free lodging to someone if they dressed as a walrus for two hours a day. The strange, real-life story inspired a brainstorming session about how they might bring the story to life on film.
"I could have easily just been like, 'Oh, that was a stupid stoner idea that I won't follow through on,' but, I don't know, there seemed to be a lot of nobility in taking a stoner idea...

Kevin Smith has listed a Los Angeles home for $5.995 million that he first saw in 2001 when his friend Ben Affleck owned it.
The Clerks, Clerks III, Chasing Amy and Mall Rats director and his wife, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, were invited to a Fourth of July barbecue at Affleck’s house that year. Smith told the Wall Street Journal that his wife fell in love with the 8,144-square-foot, five-bedroom Mediterranean-inspired house, calling it her “dream home.” During the barbecue, “My wife and I were admiring how beautiful the home was,” recalled Smith. “Ben was getting frustrated with the home as it is on a main road, and there were always paparazzi outside. He suggested we buy it from him at the same price he purchased it in 1998.”
The Smiths bought the house for $1.62 million in 2003 and raised their daughter Harley Quinn Smith (Cruel Summer, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot) there. They...

HBO's new series "The Idol" follows Lily-Rose Depp as Jocelyn, a pop star getting ready to stage her comeback. If that sounds too basic, don't worry. The series follows Jocelyn as she gets wrapped up in a cult run by Tedros Tedros, played by The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye. Jocelyn's story has some real-life analogs, though the fictional pop star isn't based on any one specific singer. And as viewers get to hear Jocelyn's music for the first time, they might wonder if that's really Depp singing in the show. In fact, fans of the series may be curious about other cast members' onscreen vocals, as well.
Is Lily-Rose Depp Singing in "The Idol"?
Yes, Depp is providing Jocelyn's singing voice - and she was really nervous about it.
For her audition, Depp had to sing a cappella. She sang a minute of the song "Fever." "I thought, Here's where I don't get called back,...

The Joker sequel is happening. For all director Todd Phillips‘s insistence that his 2019 movie Joker wasn’t a traditional superhero movie, complete with a seemingly definitive end for Clown Prince of Crime Arthur Fleck, he’s back with a sequel. That’s not too much of a surprise, given the $1.074 billion the R-rated movie earned at the box office.
What is a surprise, however, is the movie’s highfalutin title, Joker: Folie à Deux, and Phillips’s plans to make it a musical. This time, the returning Joaquin Phoenix is joined by Lady Gaga as Dr. Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn. You can see the very first look at Gaga in the role in this Valentine’s message from Phillips posted back in February:

Lady Gaga performed a stripped down version of her song “Hold My Hand,” which was nominated in the Best Original Song category for the film “Top Gun: Maverick” going into Sunday’s Academy Awards.
The “House of Gucci” actress’ performance was not confirmed until the day of the ceremony after reports that she would not be attending or performing.

Gaga graced the red carpet in a full face of makeup — including red lipstick — and a black gown, but she changed into a black T-shirt and jeans with holes in the knees and removed her makeup to belt the power ballad.
Gaga is currently filming for “Joker 2: Folie à Deux,” in which she is starring opposite Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix as Harley Quinn. The “Joker” sequel will also call upon her vocal chops: It is set to be a musical and release Oct. 4, 2024.

Tom Cruise may not have attended the 2023 Oscars, but Lady Gaga represented his film Top Gun: Maverick in a memorable way by performing the soundtrack song — and Best Original Song nominee — “Hold My Hand.”
Gaga needed no introduction for her Oscars performance. The program cut to her already on stage, where she recalled writing the “deeply personal” song in the basement of her studio about how we all need heroes sometimes. Forever committed to the bit, the artist — who was previously seen in the audience in a gown and a full face of makeup — dressed down into black jeans and a black t-shirt for the performance, and completely took off her makeup. It matched the stark beginning of “Hold My Hand,” where Gaga sang a cappella before the track built to a rapturous end.

Lady Gaga surprised the Oscars this year with her appearance; however, the internet also received a surprise sneak peek at her look in “Joker 2”.
The actress and musician nearly missed the Oscars this year, allegedly due to the filming of her new film with Joaquin Phoenix, “Joker 2”.
However, she still made a fashionable Gaga appearance on the carpet and is now set to perform during the ceremony. The pop megastar arrived in a black sheer Versace ballgown with a full skirt.

Just hours before the live telecast of the 95th Academy Awards, Et can confirm that Lady Gaga will be performing at the awards ceremony. The news comes after it was first reported that she would not be able to make the event.
Prior to Sunday, 2023 Oscars producer Glen Weiss said Gaga — who is nominated in the Best Original Song category for her song, “Hold My Hand,” from “Top Gun: Maverick” — was invited to perform but was unable to make the commitment at the time. “We have a great relationship with Lady Gaga and her camp,” Weiss said during a press conference last week.
Because she’s in the middle of shooting a new movie, Weiss said Gaga didn’t feel like she could deliver a performance at the caliber that she’s used to doing at the annual awards show. But apparently that has changed, with Gaga now slated to...

The Academy Awards have added some last-minute star power as Lady Gaga will perform her Top Gun: Maverick power ballad “Hold My Hand” at Sunday’s ceremony, Variety reports.
Oscars producers stated earlier this week that Gaga would not be able to appear at the award show — the lone Best Original Song absentee — due to her commitments on the now-filming Joker: Folie a Deux.

Let’s go, Ms. Teagues! Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson will host Saturday Night Live on April 1, marking her hosting debut on the venerated NBC show. SNL announced the news on Twitter, adding that Lil Yachty will be that episode’s musical guest in the Grammy-nominated rapper’s own SNL debut. Brunson, of course, is no stranger to comedy, as the creator and star of Abbott Elementary, a hit sitcom for ABC. But she’s also no stranger to sketch comedy: Before Abbott, Brunson starred in the first season of HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show. Her other TV credits include roles in Miracle Workers, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Party Down, and History of the World: Part II. She also had voice roles in Magical Girl Friendship Squad, Lazor Wulf, Big Mouth, and Harley Quinn. Quinta and Lil Yachty! pic.twitter.com/QYLO0UqYzG — Saturday Night Live...

The four panelists on “The Masked Singer” are going “nuts” trying to figure out the identity of the secret celebrity hiding inside the Squirrel costume. The blue rodent performed Pink‘s “Try” during the fourth episode of Season 9 and earned enough votes to advance to the following week. That means we’ll all have to wait a bit longer to find out who she really is. Do You have any ideas? Read on for the judges’ “The Masked Singer” Squirrel guesses.
“Squirrel, you made the audience and us go nuts,” Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg stated after her rousing performance on the big stage during DC Superheroes Night. “The tone of your voice is so freaking beautiful. I feel like it’s very familiar, but nonetheless I think you killed it tonight.”

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 4 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired March 8 on Fox.
How are we supposed to live without Michael Bolton? The pop crooner was the latest celebrity to be revealed on “The Masked Singer,” as he was voted off the show as the Wolf.
It wasn’t much of a mystery this week, given how recognizable Bolton’s voice is. Even singing the Doors classic “Break on Through,” everyone (mostly) agreed it was him. For Wolf, Robin Thicke, Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg all named Michael Bolton. Ken Jeong went rogue and picked Richard Marx.
It was DC Superheroes night, and the episode opened with Nicole Scherzinger (dressed as the Catwoman), singing Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero.” Her fellow panelists were also in cosplay: Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg as Harley Quinn, Ken Jeong as the Riddler and Robin Thicke as,...

Hasan Minhaj is reprising his role as The Riddler for a spinoff of the hit Spotify and DC audio series, Batman Unburied.
The Riddler: Secrets of the Dark will debut later this year exclusively on Spotify. The show, like Batman Unburied, is created by David S. Goyer and will feature returning characters from the Batman Unburied series, though casting for leads like Batman, who was portrayed by Winston Duke in Batman Unburied, have not yet been announced.
“Everything you loved about Batman Unburied — Batman, Riddler, Barbara Gordon and several others —all of these iconic characters will be returning to Gotham City. But this time, instead of Batman saving The Riddler, Batman needs The Riddler to help save the Bat from certain death,” Minhaj said in a prerecorded video at Spotify’s Stream On event on Wednesday. “And this time, finally, the Riddler gets the spotlight that he deserves.”

It’s superhero night on “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday, but Ken Jeong thinks it might be the actress behind a beloved super villain that’s under one of the masks. This time around, the judge thinks Margot Robbie may have stopped by his show.
Ok, calling Harley Quinn a super villain might be taking things a little far, but you get our point. Robbie became a household name thanks to her portrayal of the Joker’s love interest and for once, Jeong’s guess is actually based on a solid foundation rather than his typical reaches.
You can watch TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek of the episode, and try to piece together a few clues for yourself, in the video above.

As James Gunn and Peter Safran reshape the DC universe at Warner Bros. Discovery, film and TV aren’t the only mediums where iconic characters like Batman, Harley Quinn and the Joker are taking on new lives.
Thanks to an expansive, multiyear first-look deal with Spotify, DC has attracted new and returning fans to its rich IP — without being beholden to the intricacies of a mapped-out multiverse, the same actors portraying its characters or the costs of a typical high-wattage and effects-heavy superhero production.
The partnership kicked off in earnest last year, when Spotify and DC released an original story about Batman for an audio series penned by The Dark Knight scribe David S. Goyer. Starring Winston Duke as Bruce Wayne, Batman Unburied took on a decidedly darker tone as a psychological thriller that followed Bruce tracking down a serial killer and confronting his own demons along the way. Even before James Gunn announced the upcoming slate for the newly-launched DC Studios that he heads with Peter Safran, we knew that superhero television was about to change. For years, DC succeeded on television where it had arguably struggled on film, thanks to the hugely successful Arrowverse on CW. From the gritty series Arrow that launched in 2012, the Arrowverse grew into a massive superhero soap opera, making up for the absence of the DC Trinity with fan-favorites like the Flash and the Atom, and rehabilitated D-listers like Wild Dog and Vibe.
But for all of its popularity and success, the Arrowverse is nearly over. With The Flash in its ninth and final season, and Superman & Lois officially not part of the same universe, the massive franchise seems to be at an end. And although Gunn has been clear that the DC Studios slate will not only include television offerings but...

The rise and fall of Batman feature films from 1989 through 1997 was fascinating to witness. One cannot understate the enormity of Tim Burton's "Batman" in the popular consciousness, nor the outsize box office it earned when it was first released. Internationally, "Batman" earned $411 million, which is about $990 million in 2023 dollars.
A sequel seemed inevitable, and in 1992, Burton returned with "Batman Returns." The sequel was, however, incredibly odd and dark, featuring a surreal visual aesthetic and way more violence. Some critics objected to the film's darkness, and there was a minor uproar. The third film swapped Bat actors as well as directors. Joel Schumacher's "Batman Forever," released in 1995, adopted an Atlantic City-like neon aesthetic and upped the color and energy from Burton's dour films. It, too, was a massive hit, and Schumacher's 1997 follow-up, "Batman & Robin" sought to up the ante, ratcheting up the colors and garishness to an even greater degree.

(Welcome to My Most Ridiculous Note, a series of interviews in which animators talk about the weirdest and funniest notes they received from studio executives.)
"Harley Quinn" is one of the funniest, most subversive, and overall best superhero shows around today. What could have easily been just an over-the-stop, crude, and hyper-violent adult cartoon quickly revealed itself to be full of heart and emotion, with great character arcs not just for Harley and Ivy, but the supporting cast, too.
This is a show that takes us inside Batman's mind, gives us the definitive version of the Waynes' murder, and even provides Bruce Wayne's first therapy session (kind of), all while also turning Joker into a loving stepfather, making King Shark an essential DC character, and giving Bane a characterization we could only dream of.
The show was created by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey, all making their debuts in animation.

Jenny Slate is not a controversial figure. The Boston-raised actor’s particular brand of comedy can be physical and absurdist and sometimes confessional. For the most part, it’s not contentious stuff. It’s surprising, then, that Slate has found herself caught in the slipstream of vast cultural currents. In 2009, she accidentally let the F-word slip during her Saturday Night Live debut. Three years ago, she chose to step down from her role voicing a biracial character on a Netflix hit show. Then, last summer, she made a scene-stealing, though somewhat divisive, appearance in Oscars contender Everything Everywhere All at Once. It’s hard to believe that her latest film, about an adorable anthropomorphic shell who cares for his elderly grandma, will cause any kind of kerfuffle.
If you don’t know Slate by name, you’ll know her voice. It has a distinct nasal rasp, equal parts throat and nose.

Harley Quinn turned 30 last year, and in that time, she's gone from the Joker's quirky hench-woman to the star of her own spin-off series. In the eponymous, R-rated "Harley Quinn" series on HBO Max, Harley (Kaley Cuoco) ditches Mistah J. (Alan Tudyk) and starts running her own crew. Her first recruit is her best friend, Poison Ivy (Lake Bell).
Over the series, Harley and Ivy realize their feelings for each other run deeper than friendship. The romance has been a long-time coming, with the subtext between these two stretching back to their very first meeting in "Harley & Ivy," an episode of "Batman: The Animated Series."
In HBO Max's "Harley Quinn," Ivy is the one who frees Harley from the Joker's grip. She has the Riddler kidnap both Harley and Batman and then make the Joker choose one to free and one to drop in (fake) acid. The Joker chooses his true love -- Batman,...

Woe betide anyone who stumbles across the Harley Quinn Valentine’s Day Special without any prior knowledge of the animated TV series, because it’s safe to say they’d be in for something of a shock. Created by DC animation veterans Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, and written and exec-produced by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey, the show specialises in a raunchy, adult-themed and decidedly sweary take on the familiar DC Comics characters, and the Valentine’s Special pushes those limits to even further extremes.

One reason that "Batman: The Animated Series" was and remains so beloved was how it embraced case-of-the-week storytelling. This was perfect for showcasing all the different corners and characters that make up the wild world of Gotham City. Such a large cast of characters meant that the series brought in a lot of actors; voice director Andrea Romano sought actors of all stripes for parts big and small. On the Popcorn & Shield podcast, the late Kevin Conroy (the voice of Batman) described the casting process as thus:
"They were really looking for actors, rather than just voice people. They cast a really wide net. So there were TV people, film people, stage people. Every week going in it was like going to summer camp, the people I got to work with."
Series co-creator Bruce Timm, also being interviewed, agreed with Conroy's sentiment. "Every week there was always some special, you know,...

The internet has gone Gaga for Harley Quinn in “Joker: Folie à Deux.”
As a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift, writer-director Todd Phillips released the first image of Stefani Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, in character as Harleen Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn. The great DC character will likely play a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, where she falls in love with “Mr. J.”, Joaquin Phoenix returning to his Oscar-winning role as Arthur Fleck (better known as Joker).
Gaga’s Harley, based on this image, doesn’t have any of the white makeup or domino mask, but has her hair pulled back in a forceful manner and has Quite an extreme puss on her face. She’s staring right into Fleck’s eyes who, in harsh lighting, kinda looks like Robin Williams a little, doesn’t he?

The first look at Lady Gaga in the upcoming “Joker” sequel, “Joker: Folie À Deux”, is here! The film’s director, Todd Phillips, shared a still shot from the film on Instagram in honour of love day Tuesday, writing, “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
The pic sees a bleach-blonde Gaga staring intensely into the eyes of the Joker himself, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who is reprising his role as the DC Comics villain. Gaga has red face paint smeared on her lips and nose, which appears to be from the Joker’s made-up face. Phoenix is staring just as intensely back at Gaga, but with more of a loving look as opposed to the shock that appears in the “House of Gucci” actress’ eyes.

The first image of Lady Gaga in the sequel to Joker has been released.
Opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s chaotic anti-hero, the singer and actor is set to play Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, the follow-up to the 2019 hit DC film.
As the love interest of Phoenix’s Joker, Harley Quinn is a henchwoman and is often used for comic effect.
In previous DC properties, including Suicide Squad and Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, the role has been portrayed by Margot Robbie.
After Gaga was announced as part of the Joker sequel cast back in August, fans have been feverish for their first taste of the “Stupid Love” vocalist in the part.
Late on Tuesday (14 February), director Todd Phillips released a photo of the actors together, in character, as a Valentine’s Day treat.
“Happy Valentine’s day,” he wrote as a simple caption.
