In the modern TV landscape, there isn't really anything quite like "Bones." Abby Ryder Fortson may be leading a big blockbuster movie with vets like Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates, but she's no acting newbie. The 15-year-old stars as the titular lead of "Are You There God? The Film Independent Spirit Awards selected A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once as its Best Feature on Saturday to culminate its 38th edition, one of seven wins for the metaverse-set pic that solidifies its frontrunner status in one of the last major awards stops ahead of March 12’s Academy Awards.

Everything, which had a leading eight nominations coming into daytime ceremony on the beach at the Santa Monica Pier, also scored wins for Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu in the awards’ inaugural gender-neutral performance categories across film and TV. “History of The World: Part II” star Nick Kroll says the new Hulu series continues Mel Brooks’ legacy of “poking fun at those in power.”

“Mel’s ultimate goal was always to poke fun at those in power and how greedy and stupid they were,” Kroll said during the 2023 Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour on Saturday. “And so doing a show about history now at a time when we are reexamining the past, how things went down, it became a very easy through-line to just continue Mel’s legacy of poking fun at those in power.”

While the landscape of comedy has shifted in the 40 years since Brooks’ film “History of The World: Part I” was released, Kroll argues that comedians can “still say and do insane things.”

“They just have to be a little more thoughtful about how and why you’re saying them,” he added.

Legendary funnyman Mel Brooks is on hand to tee up the first teaser trailer for Hulu’s History of the World, Part II miniseries, which of course is a follow-up to his 1981 film and, similarly, features a veritable “Who’s Who” of familiar faces.

Premiering Monday, March 6 with two episodes, and dropping two new episodes daily through Thursday, March 9, the “four-night event” promises a variety of sketches that take you through different periods of human history.

After 40 years, the hopes and dreams of a generation have finally come true: “History of the World Pt. 2” is almost here. Prime Video has released the teaser trailer for the upcoming comedic-thriller series “The Consultant,” starring Christoph Waltz.

Based on Bentley Little’s 2015 novel of the same name, the eight-episode series revolves around Regus Patoff (Waltz), a consultant who is hired to improve the business at the gaming company CompWare. Under his guidance, the employees begin to experience new and twisted demands. In addition to Waltz, the series stars Nat Wolff, Brittany O’Grady and Aimee Carrero.

“The Consultant” is from MGM Television and Amazon Studios. Creator and showrunner Tony Basgallop serves as an executive producer alongside Waltz, Matt Shakman, Steve Stark and Andrew Mittman, while Kai Dolbashian produces.

When the seminal cinematic comedy "History of the World, Part I" was released in 1981, Mel Brooks and company teased that Part II was on the way. However, the cheeky teaser was only meant to be a bit rather than an earnest promise. Despite carrying "Part I" as part of the title, there was never an actual plan in place to do another installment of the episodic parody film that delivered Brooks' version of world history from the Stone Age to the French Revolution. The title was actually a reference to "The History of the World, Volume 1" by Sir Walter Raleigh, who was a prisoner in the Tower of London that was beheaded before he could write the other four intended volumes.

Then again, that's also how the gag about a "Spaceballs" sequel started out in 1987. Decades later, the prolific writer took his talents to G4 in 2008 for "Spaceballs: The Animated Series.

Hulu has released a first look at History of the World, Part II, its upcoming series follow-up to the 1981 Mel Brooks film comedy.

Film Independent announced the TV nominations for the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Tuesday morning, with four shows in particular leading the pack. ABC’s beloved comedy “Abbott Elementary,” FX’s critical darling “The Bear,” the HBO Max limited series “Station Eleven” and the acclaimed Apple TV+ drama “Severance” scored the most nominations of any show with three each.

The Apple TV+ series “Pachinko” won the Best Ensemble award.

New this year, as with the film nominees, is a switch to gender neutral acting awards with the Best Actor and Best Actress categories replaced by a 10-nominee Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series award. In addition to this change, a Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series award has been added to honor performances outside of the leading roles.

The 38th Film Independent Spirit Awards will be held on March 4, 2023, in Santa Monica. Check out the film nominees here.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards are unveiling their 2023 nominees for television Tuesday morning. Film Independent has revealed the TV nominees for the 2023 Spirit Awards.

Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Severance and Station Eleven landed three nominations each, the most of any series.

Notable nominees include Emmy winners Quinta Brunson and Sheryl Lee Ralph of Abbott Elementary, who earned Emmys in September for best writing for a comedy series and supporting actress, respectively, for the ABC sitcom. Emmy nominee Janelle James was also honored with a supporting performance nomination. Other nominees from September’s Emmys include Yellowjackets‘ Melanie Lynskey, Station Eleven‘s Himesh Patel and Severance‘s Adam Scott.

While Till star Danielle Deadwyler was not recognized in the film categories for her acclaimed performance in the United Artists drama, she did earn a supporting performance nod for her role in Station Eleven.

Created by Liz Feldman, “Dead to Me” stars Applegate and Cardellini as Jen Harding and Judy Hale, two women who meet while attending a grief support group. Unknown to Jen, however, Judy is the hit-and-run driver who killed her husband. As the two develop a close friendship, Jen invites Judy to move in with her, setting up a chain of events that wrap the two up in more crime and death. The show also stars James Marsden as Judy’s slimy ex, Steve, and his twin brother Ben, Max Jenkins as Jen’s business partner Christopher, and Sam McCarthy and Luke Roessler as Jen’s sons Charlie and Henry.

Netflix has released the official trailer for the Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini buddy black comedy, which returns for its third and final season Nov. 17.

The final run comes more than two years after the second season was released. That season ended on a cliffhanger after Jen (Applegate) and Judy (Cardellini) got into a major car accident after being struck by drunk-driving Ben (James Marsden). As viewers recall, the series began with a hit-and-run accident that killed Jen’s husband, sending Jen to the grief group where she met Judy.

Exclusive: Garret Dillahunt (Sprung) has joined the third and final season of Netflix’s acclaimed dark comedy series Dead to Me, debuting on the platform on November 17, as a recurring guest star.

With its first season in 2019, Dead to Me introduced viewers to the recently widowed Laguna Beach real estate agent Jen (Christina Applegate) as well as Judy Hale (Linda Cardellini), a free spirit with a shocking secret who came to befriend her via a support group. By the end of the show’s first run (*Spoilers ahead*), we learned that it was Judy who killed Jen’s husband Ted in a hit-and-run, with Jen later killing Judy’s ex-fiancé, Steve (James Marsden). It seemed near the end of Season 2 that Jen and Judy’s concerns as to the consequences of their crimes might soon be put to rest, given Detective Perez’s (Diana-Maria Riva) decision to take pity on them.

Dead to Me is coming back — 2½ years after it was last on Netflix.

Comedian Nick Kroll is returning to standup — and doing it via Netflix, the home of his animated comedy “Big Mouth.” Kroll’s first stand-up special in a decade — and his first for Netflix — is titled “Nick Kroll: Little Big Boy,” and will premiere globally on September 27.

The special will air a month before the Season 6 return of “Big Mouth,” which returns Oct. 28. For “Little Big Boy,” Kroll shot the special in June at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C.

The show is somewhat hard to describe; Fielder allows ordinary people to prepare for life’s biggest moments by “rehearsing” them in carefully crafted simulations of his own design with the use of a construction crew, a legion of actors, and seemingly unlimited resources.

HBO has renewed Fielder’s “The Rehearsal” for Season 2. The critically acclaimed dramedy concludes its first season this week.

The genre-bending series explores the lengths one man (Fielder) will go to reduce the uncertainties of everyday life. With a construction crew, a legion of actors, and seemingly unlimited resources, Fielder allows ordinary people to prepare for life’s biggest moments by “rehearsing” them in carefully crafted simulations of his own design. When a single misstep could shatter your entire world, why leave life to chance?

Fielder writes, directs, stars, and serves as executive producer of the series.

“Nathan has sparked such a lively conversation with ‘The Rehearsal,'” Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming, said. “We have no idea where Season 2 will take us, and that is the delight of this boundary-pushing show from a truly singular talent.

The premium cabler has ordered a second season of Fielder’s comedy series The Rehearsal, in which the Nathan for You creator stages elaborate trial runs for people (and himself) who are facing significant events in their lives and want to practice getting them just right. The renewal comes just ahead of the show’s first season finale on Friday.

Five years after the conclusion of his critically-acclaimed Comedy Central series “Nathan for You,” Nathan Fielder is back in front of the camera with HBO’s “The Rehearsal.” On Wednesday, the pay cabler released the trailer for the new show.

In the series, Fielder visits real people who need to undergo a difficult conversation of some kind, and helps them meticulously “rehearse” the event. Using actors and a construction crew to replicate where and how these talks will be held, “The Rehearsal” explores potential scenarios for each event, with Fielder treating the experience with the utmost seriousness.

“With this show, if your performance isn’t accurate, you could ruin someone’s life,” Fielder tells a group of actors in the trailer.

In addition to hosting the series, Fielder directs, writes and executive produces “The Rehearsal.” Clark Reinking executive produces the first episode, while Dave Paige executive produces the remaining five.

The best unproduced screenplays from The Black List 2011 is compiled by votes from over 300 “execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year’s list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.”

Regarding the validity of The Black List, things to keep in mind:

some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though…none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

For the seventh annual year a list of the top unproduced screenplays written in the past 12 calendar months has been made. The Black List is the most recognized and celebritized compilation for screenwriters and unknown movie ideas to be heard. While some prior Black List scripts have gone on to be made (like Juno or 500 Days of Summer), most scripts do not. However, what being on The Black List can do is to give a big push of credibility to a screenwriter hoping to carve out a career in Hollywood.

The Black List recepients are chosen by a committee of 300 individuals working in Hollywood: agents, writers, producers, managers and the like. They read the screenplays that float around the showbiz ecosystem; some are bought and are already in development while others are still seeing the interest of talent of financial backers.

The 2011 Black List has arrived online and there are a bunch of the hottest scripts in Hollywood. Some have already been picked up by studios, while most are still unproduced. Here is the press release: The Black List was compiled from the suggestions of over 300 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2011 and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year.

This year, scripts had to receive at least six mentions to be included on the The Black List.
