A new entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise may be on its way. That is, if a leaked poster is to be believed. Featuring the iconic dragon logo and the phrase, “Who’s Next?” this poster (seen below) appears to confirm that the popular franchise will indeed be returning soon. Its backdrop also provides a hint at an impending sequel, as the image of a shattered spine is reminiscent of the last game’s bone-shattering X-ray attack cam.
This is not the first time that rumours of a new instalment have leaked, as at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Mortal Kombat Legacy producer Lance Sloane let it slip that NetherRealm Studios was working on a new entry in the series. Going further, 24 star Kiefer Sutherland has also mentioned that he had a part to play in the in-development project.

Lance Sloane was in the middle of making “Act of Valor” when McG handed him one of the best scripts he’d ever read. It was for a project called “Aim High,” the story of a high school student (“Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone) who moonlights as a secret agent. Sloane, then head of production at Bandito Brothers, approached Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara, who was then running the studio’s home entertainment division. Home entertainment housed Warner Bros.’ nascent digital series business, and Sloane considered Tsujihara an advocate from their time working together before. As Sloane shared his enthusiasm for the script,...

Machinima has released all ten episodes of director Kevin Tancharoen's highly anticipated Mortal Kombat: Legacy II, and holy shit! It's awesome! If you enjoyed the first part of this web-series you're going to absolutely love the sequel because it's even better! This time around they had more money to work with and the support of the studio. It's amazing what they have been able to accomplish, and I'm so excited to see what these guys actually end up bringing to the feature film they are developing.
I've included all of the episodes below, along with a short description of each one. I hope you enjoy the second season! I already can't wait to see more Mortal Kombat awesomeness!

The very first episode of “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” racked up 5.5 million views in a single week and has 70 million to date. Clearly Machinima and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment broke barriers in the web series realm with the groundbreaking property and now they’re looking to continue that trend with the show’s second season, “Mortal Kombat Legacy II.” The first round functioned as a nine-episode prequel to the original game, consisting of origin stories for characters including Jax (Michael Jai White), Shao Kahn (Aleks Paunovic), Cyrax (Shane Warren Jones), and more. “Mortal Kombat: Legacy II,” on the other hand, runs with a linear format and aims to expose the history [ Read More ]

There’s another edition of Street Fighter IV in the works, a new Killer Instinct is set to launch with the Xbox One, and Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3Ds are both due in 2014. The only thing missing is a new Mortal Kombat, and it sounds as if NetherRealm residents and fans of the series will soon be able to add it to the list.
During a San Diego Comic-Con interview with GamerHub.TV, Mortal Kombat Legacy producer Lance Sloane was discussing the progress on the Warner Bros. film script when he casually mentioned the unannounced next game in the series.
Noting the importance of the film’s release schedule, Sloane said, “It’s just figuring out the business side of it and when we would do it and when we would launch it and how do we sync up with the launch of the game that they’re working on now.

We all know that another season of the Mortal Kombat web series is on the way, that much has been made certain, along with plenty of details.
But what about another Mortal Kombat movie? There's been plenty of talk about that as well, but the specifics in comparision are far more hazy. Though as it turns out, it's definitely happen. Oh, also, it'll tie into the next game. One that hasn't been announced.
As Destructoid points out, Lance Sloane, producer of the aforementioned Legacy web series, recently spoke to GamerHub.TV and made mention of a movie that's currently in the midst of development. Simply fast forward to the 1:07 mark:
Basically, it was green-lit some time ago and there's already a script. Kevin Tancharoen, the man behind Legacy will be directing this one as well, thought the most interesting revelation is buried in all the talk...

The first season of "Mortal Kombat: Legacy" was pretty solid fun, and director Kevin Tancharoen is back for a second season of the web series, taking the action to Outworld, and adding some new performers to the cast. Apparently just because Kevin Tancharoen has been hired on by WB to make another live action Mortal Kombat movie, doesn't mean he's stopped work on his wildly popular Mk webseries. WB's Digital Distribution arm has confirmed the second 'season' of the webseries is currently in production and will debut in 2013. We'll be able to see our first clip pretty soon too.
Honestly, I'm kind of surpised by this and not exactly sure how I feel. Don't get me worong, I truly enjoy the Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries. I thought it was fun, and showed off what can be done with the property (especially once it gets a bigger budget). Once it was announced that the studios hired him to take on a full length Mortal Kombat feature, I figured he would devote all his time and attention to that. I guess I was wrong.

We told you last month about Bryan Singer‘s H+ The Digital Series, the futuristic online series where the human race is hardwired to the Internet – it does sound great, doesn’t it? but apparently in the series, this is a “bad” thing – and we’re happy to report that the first two episodes are now live.
Admittedly, I haven’t always been a fan of web series. This, however, is great. It is completely professional in every way, with absolutely top notch production values. And I would like to see all of it right now. Unfortunately, if you didn’t click on it by noon Pacific time yesterday, you only get to see the first two episodes. The good news: two new episodes will be released at noon Pacific every Wednesday for a total of 48(!) episodes.

Robert Downey Jr. has added yet another acting job on his list of films he needs to do. He will star in a new film called Yucatan, which will be written by Sherlock Holmes screenwriter Anthony Peckham. Peckham is making seven-figures to start over on the project that the studio has wanted to make for half a decade.
Downey Jr. is set to play a renegade deep-sea salvage expert hired to steal a mysterious hidden treasure hidden deep underwater in the Mayan ruins of Yucatan.
The film is based on a story by the late actor Steve McQueen, who had intended starring in a film version himself. According to Deadline, McQueen compiled 1500 pages of notes and storyboards that filled 15 notebooks. These notebook were found by McQueen's son Chad and godson Lance Sloane discovered the notebooks in an old trunk.

Nick Cassavetes has signed on to direct "The Beautiful and the Damned," the Film Department's period love story about F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Sayme. The helmer already has circled his Zelda: Keira Knightley is in discussions to play the tempestuous lover.
"Damned" revolves around Zelda Sayre (Knightley) and F. Scott Fitzgerald, who became Jazz Age icons known for living large, soaring high and crashing hard. Although toasts of town in the 1920s, their courtship and marriage was festooned with jealousy and acrimony. PARK CITY -- Films about misfit kids trying to escape the oppression of their small town are practically a cottage industry. Director Steve Berra, a skateboarding champion making his feature debut, tries to pump new life into the genre by pushing the alienation of his characters to an extreme. While The Good Life is stylistically ambitious and heartfelt, it feels more forced than authentic. But quirkiness of the film could find it an audience on cable outlets.
Berra's characters exist in a kind of mythical version of Lincoln, Nebraska, where people appear out of nowhere and say things like, "You don't know you know me." There are two sides to this town: the mass of fevered college football fans and the few alienated souls who don't have a clue. Berra brings two of the unlikely lost souls together.
The lead character is named Jason Prayer (Mark Webber), lest you miss what kind of state his life is in. He works pumping gas, trying to get by and support his mother, but the defining fact of his life is that he has no body hair, the result of an immune system malfunction. Although he wears a wig, he is a man set apart by his condition.
Jason's one pleasure in life is working at the Capitol theater, one of the last of the dying breed of neighborhood movie houses. While helping his friend Gus Harry Dean Stanton) show old movies such as The Harvey Girls, in walks Frances (Zooey Deschanel) like a shady character out of a film noir, who claims she was a childhood singer. The details of her life also bear a striking resemblance to those of Garland's. Frances and Jason are, of course, soul mates, destined to ride into the sunset together.
At this point, Berra could have cued The Animals singing I Got to Get Out of this Place, but he prefers more mournful strings and piano. Jason's life is a barrage of insults and defeats, the latest being the death of his despised father, who left his son with the message "Life is suffering and no one will ever love you." No wonder he's lost.
It's hard to know what to believe about Francis' stories of suicide, drugs and hospitization. Deschanel's big-hearted performance -- including a lovely rendition of On the Sunnyside of the Street -- makes the character appealing, if not quite convincing. What's clear is that she is a desperate character trying to cut her surprisingly close ties to the football culture in the worst way.
True to form, things go from bad to worse before they get better. The electricity is shut off at Jason's house, he gets beat up by the local thug and his beloved father figure Gus is losing his memory and barely recognizes him.
While it is impossible not to be moved by suffering like this, circumstances often seem more contrived than real. The Capitol theater, for instance, runs a repertory program that would make a New York movie house proud for an audience of two people night after night. And Jason's working class family comes off as the kind of one-dimensional people who exist only in movies, especially his over-the-top brother-in-law (Donal Logue).
Technically, The Good Life is an impressive first film for Berra. Patrice Lucien Cochet's photography suggests the magical atmosphere and gritty reality the director was apparently shooting for. And Gord Wilding's dead-on production design makes it clear why these people want out.

Zooey Deschanel, Harry Dean Stanton, Bill Paxton, Chris Klein, Bruce McGill, Deborah Rush and Mark Webber are getting ready for The Good Life, an indie coming-of-age drama by first-time director Steve Berra. Lance Sloane and Patrick Markey (A River Runs Through It) are producing, while Paxton is executive producing. Phyliss Laing is co-producing. Berra drew on his experiences to write the screenplay, which is set in a Nebraska town obsessed with football and tells the story of a mostly normal young man (Webber) who makes the best out of fitting in where he obviously doesn't. Deschanel is a girl who encourages the young man to pursue his own path, while Stanton is a movie theater owner who employs him. Klein is a bully ex-football player living off his high school fame, while McGill is the football coach who is a god in the town. Paxton plays a Judy Garland fan.
After making his feature directorial debut with the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures skateboarding feature Grind, Gaylord Films production head Casey La Scala will take on another action sport for his follow-up film. La Scala will direct, produce and co-write an untitled youth-driven film set in the world of motocross racing to begin production this fall. Producing with La Scala are Gaylord topper Hunt Lowry and Grind co-producer Lance Sloane. Writing the project with La Scala will be Todd Samovitz, co-writer on the upcoming Lions Gate Films feature Wonderland, starring Val Kilmer.
