Set to hit theaters next year, we now have our first look at cast members Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett in the new psychological thriller, and in stark contrast to last year's Blake Lively film, this one is a lot bloodier.
Photos have surfaced online (seen below) showing Johnson on the set of Verity wearing a long peacoat and headphones, and in a few of the images, her face and neck are covered in blood as Hartnett guides her across a busy street. Another image shows her with a vape, while others have her in her own little world as she walks down the sidewalk with her headphones on, tuning out the surrounding noise. From ‘Babygirl’ to ‘Bridget Jones,’ How Women Are Taking Control in May-December Romances

But Bridget is not alone. Last year saw the release of “The Idea of You,” in which Anne Hathaway’s character falls in love with a pop star 16 years her junior (played by Nicholas Galitzine); “A Family Affair,” where Nicole Kidman falls in love with a man also 16 years her junior; “Lonely Planet,” which sees Laura Dern fall for Liam Hemsworth, who is 23 years younger than her; and “Babygirl,” wherein Kidman once again plays a character who falls for a man 24 years younger than her. The Romantic-Comedy genre has served cheeseballs to audiences who have often flocked to them for a pat on the back for years. It has not only provided the audience with the much-needed hope that love is around the corner but has also entertained them with neatly packed humor that makes a dolly out of life’s most lovable moments. However, with changing times, the genre has undergone a makeover of sorts. More films have established the idea of a rom-com but have twisted the narrative to serve the greater good. Subverting the genre has thus become a common trait. Indie films of late have often done wonders within the genre itself. The best romantic comedy movies of the decade have thus come out from the indie cinema. 24 of those are as follows:
24. Two Night Stand (2014) | Director: Max Nichols

Roberts will star and produce with partners Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill through their Red Om Films banner, as well as Tribeca Studios’ Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh. Stuber and partner Nick Nesbitt are also producing.
The book, from HarperCollins, doesn’t come out until June, but Amazon and Stuber acted quickly to take the book off the Hollywood market. The story is a murder mystery told in reverse.

Dennis Quaid, who had a shining role in The Substance last year as a Terry Gilliam-style grotesquerie, will play American killer Keith Hunter Jesperson a.k.a. "The Happy Face Killer" (because of the smiley faces he wrote on notes to authorities) in a new series, Happy Face, for Paramount+.
The only thing America is better at than producing serial killers is drama series and movies based on those serial killers. Maybe it was the leaded gasoline of the mid-20th century that crushed the nation's neural empathy centers, but the 60s through the 90s churned out some of the most deranged serial killers of all time.
Though Quaid plays the dead-eyed killer as the center of the string of grisly murders in the early 90s, the series focuses on Jesperson's daughter, Melissa G. Moore who, at 15, discovered her father's secret life as a criminal.
The series is based on Moore's 2018 podcast,...

This article contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Section 31."Emperor Philippa Giorgiou's (Michelle Yeoh) return in "Star Trek: Section 31" has her associating with a pretty wild bunch. Her crew during the film's strange yet crucial special operation features a collection of fascinating characters, ranging from Omari Hardwick's Section 31 liaison Alok Sahar to Sam Richardson's chameloid character Quasi. Since the entire team is decidedly of the black ops variety, they're effectively expendable. The group's borderline redshirt nature is underlined fairly early in the movie when the seductive Deltan team member Melle attempts to subdue a target -- and is promptly shot to death.
Though Melle's demise is far from the only one in the film, it's definitely the earliest. Despite this, she still manages to show why she's a valuable member of the team, which allows actor Humberly González to make the most of the screen time she's given. Since...

"Saturday Night Live" is now in its 50th year of existence, which means the sketch comedy show will spend much of 2025 warmly celebrating its own broadcast legacy. Some of this is earned. Producer Lorne Michaels was in the right place at the right time to pull together an epochal collection of comedic talent in 1975, and it's astonishing to consider that the show has remained relevant through 10 U.S. presidencies and god knows how many shifts in the popular culture. Though many people still watch the show live, viewers who've other plans on Saturday night can wait until Sunday to read episode recaps at any number of websites (none better than Ethan Anderton's at /Film) and/or watch individual skits on YouTube. "SNL" isn't going anywhere — though, as a fan who's lived through its lowest lows (seasons 6 and 11 in particular), I feel like it's never been more mechanical than it is now.

David Wain’s 2001 film Wet Hot American Summer is a cult classic that is especially cherished because of the relationship between McKinley (Michael Ian Black) and Ben (Bradley Cooper). Although their relationship is a small part of the ensemble film, it was important to many viewers because of the genuine intimacy between the characters, a quality that is still rare in comedy films today. By the time Wain and screenwriter Michael Showalter created the follow-up shows Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later for Netflix, they faced a dilemma: Ben was an important character for the franchise's most passionate fans. But, Cooper had recently received an Academy Award nomination for Silver Linings Playbook, in addition to joining the MCU as Rocket Raccoon. He was a certified A-lister with a very busy schedule.

Despite the (ongoing) drama surrounding "It Ends With Us" — and, in particular, its two stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the latter of whom also directed the film — the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's best-selling 2016 novel of the same name earned an abundance of cash at the box office when it came out in the summer of 2024. Why do I bring up the movie's financial success amidst the apparent, alleged strife between Baldoni and Lively? Because studio executives very likely watched "It Ends With Us" crush the summer box office and thought, "What other Colleen Hoover books can we possibly adapt?"
As for Hoover herself, she worked closely with the team on "It Ends With Us" to create the film — she was quite present during the press tour — and told The Hollywood Reporter that she loved seeing her work adapted for the screen. "It's very surreal," Hoover said in August...

Nearly five decades into her career, Joan Chen is getting another chance at a Hollywood comeback — but this isn’t the first time the acclaimed actress has tasted success.
Her introduction came when she was the 18-year-old star of the 1979 Chinese film “Little Flower,” for which she won China’s most prestigious acting award. Eight years later, she experienced fame on a global scale with Bernardo Bertolucci’s celebrated historical drama, “The Last Emperor,” which took home nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Now, at 63, Chen is receiving renewed attention for her achingly nuanced portrayal of Chungsing, an immigrant Taiwanese mother who gives up her artistic dreams to raise her less-than-grateful American teenage children in Sean Wang’s feature directorial debut, “Dìdi.”
“Life is mysterious, isn’t it?” Chen said of the recent kudos coming her way. “Sometimes we try to put it into some kind of a framing to understand it,...
