Henry Short was a director and cinematographer of actuality films from the beginning of the silent era. His short films were produced by the British filmmaker Robert Paul, and his most active years were 1895 and 1896. He may be most chiefly remembered for his 13-second film "A Sea Cave Near Lisbon", where he filmed a view of the waves crashing into Boca do Inferno, Hell's Mouth in Portugal, (filmed by mounting the camera on a boat while in the cave) and was one of 18 short film that Short made on a filmmaking trip to the Iberian Peninsula with Robert Paul's new lightweight portable camera. Short also filmed his "Andalusian Dance" during this trip. "A Sea Cave Near Lisbon" however, became a favorite with audiences and was a great success.
