  • Nerdly
Stars: Davy Raphaely Dave Sheridan, Sarah French, Janae Palmer, Paul Cottman, Christina Dinicolo, Susan Moses, Wayne Shearer, Doug Henderson | Written by James Newman, Mark Steensland | Directed by B. Harrison Smith

It truly is the age old tale of… Man is convinced to cheat on his wife… Man sticks his pecker somewhere he probably shouldnt… Man becomes obsessed with doing so… Life is about to spiral into a deep dark pit of sex, addiction and well it needs to be seen to be believed!

I mean we all know someone this has happened to, Right??

The Special is… Well its something else, lets just say that from the outset. Its been a while since I watched a flick that I quite honestly was slightly dumbfounded, yet highly gripped and entertained by. I bought into having to see this movie after having been sent the trailer with a cheeky note saying “Hey

[Note: With the film now out on DVD in the UK, here's a reposting of our review of White Space, aka Beyond White Space, from its Us VOD release back in January]

In space Moby Dick can hear you scream…

White Space introduces us to the idea of the titular “white space” and that is, areas of space that somehow have remarkable healing properties that they can imbue on anyone who passed into them (for some reason). The only problem is there are space leviathans that protect them (for some reason). Our opening scene takes us 20 something years into the past for us to see a boy lose his dad to the space monsters. So, revenge it is then.

We have Moby Dick in space, revenge for revenge’s sake as it were.

I’ve got a trailer here for a cool-looking sci-fi film called Beyond White Space that follows a man hunting down a giant alien space creature and he’s looking for revenge.

It almost feels like a Moby Dick type story only it’s set in deep space. As the obsession to capture the giant creature grows, they find themselves traveling deeper and deeper into the dangerous unknown regions of space.

Here’s the story description:

2150 A.D. The Essex, a deep space fishing vessel for industry giant, AmberCorp, is ready to make its final harvest of the season. The ship brushes with a rare creature, mammoth in size and highly territorial. Could this be the same leviathan that killed Richard and Owen's father? To make matters worse, a vicious band of scavengers intercept the transmission and infiltrate the Essex, leaving them with nothing. With no cargo and few supplies,

That sounds like a very cool setup for a thrilling sci-fi adventure, but alas the trailer doesn't look that great. Victor Crowley Review

Ever since “oldies” like Scream entered their “retrospective anniversary articles” phase, slasher cinema has failed to regain control of genre airwaves like those 80’s mainstays of pulp and cultural circumstance. Your still-relevant Friday The 13th or Child’s Play franchises. To that, I’ve always considered Adam Green’s Hatchet an exception to trends. My first taste of Victor Crowley’s bayou legend struck me as – pound for pound – one of the post-2000 era’s gnarliest slasher rebirths. Hatchet II and Hatchet III, two underrated indie continuations, only strengthened my arguments. Count me a ranking axe-wielder in the Hatchet Army, and a continual fan of Green’s work (Frozen chills to the core, Digging Up The Marrow blasts creativity).

Unfortunately, this just makes 2018’s Victor Crowley a bigger disappointment in my eyes.

Parry Shen returns as Andrew – the lone survivor of Hatch III’s massacre – and is duped into returning
