[interviewed about film-making in Britain in 1971]: Still a lovely place to live, no longer any place for a film-maker to work. For an American, it is impossible to make a film reflecting the British scene - there just is no scene today.
A graduate of Stanford University, he initially worked as a publicist for Paramount and Columbia, before settling in Britain in the mid-1950's. Chiefly remembered for producing the Beatles' films "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!".
