    • Suchitra Sen was born on April 6, 1931 in Pabna, Bengal Presidency, British India [now in Pabna, Bangladesh]. She was an actress, known for Aandhi (1975), Saptapadi (1961) and Devdas (1955). She was married to Dibanath Sen. She died on January 17, 2014 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

  • She and Late Uttam Kumar formed one of the most enduring romantic screen pairs during the golden-era of Bengali cinema, starring in many romantic melodramas together.
  • Retired from the film industry in 1978 and has since gone into seclusion. As a devotee of the Ramakrishna Mission, she has immersed herself in meditation and prayer and outside of her home, she has confined her visits to Belur Math (the mission's headquarters).
  • The most popular actress that Bengali Cinema has ever seen. Her legacy is continued through her daughter Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters Raima Sen and Riya Sen.
