Schulberg has always found time to provide pro bono services to social justice and environmental activism causes, starting at age 16 when he served as the youngest marshal to serve the Poor People's Campaign and Tent City in Washington, DC in 1968. Since then, among his many pro bono activities, he organized a benefit for the homeless at the Roxy starring Kid Creole and the Coconuts, with poster by Keith Haring, a peace concert starring Richie Havens to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, countless marches, demonstrations, vigils and protests by Collier Freedom, a non-profit he helps run in Southwest Florida.
Today, Schulberg is the Collier County Waterkeeper, lead advocate for this member organization of the international Waterkeeper Alliance, the largest and fastest growing non-profit devoted to clean water, with 340 chapters on six continents.
Prior to becoming the Collier County Waterkeeper, he served for three years as Executive Director of Lee County Waterkeeper Alliance member, Calusa Waterkeeper (CWK), where he steered the organization to triple revenue and quadruple membership. Schulberg combined his filmmaking skills with his environmental activism at CWK, producing, writing, and directing three clean water documentaries for the organization: TROUBLED WATERS (2019).
