‘Counterpart’ Season 2 Review: Sci-Fi/Spy Thriller Doubles Down and Comes Up Short

When it debuted earlier this year, I compared Starz’s Counterpart simultaneously to The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, Fringe and The Parent Trap. Such was the unlikely yet appealing combination of genres and tones used to tell the story of Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons), a meek government bureaucrat who discovers that there’s a parallel reality whose own Howard Silk is a ruthless spy. At times it was a calculated Cold War thriller, at times a wistful sci-fi tale about the divergences between the two worlds, at

‘The Good Doctor’ Fall Finale: A Viral Infection Leads To An Outbreak Of Cliffhangers

‘The Good Doctor’ Fall Finale: A Viral Infection Leads To An Outbreak Of Cliffhangers
Spoiler Alert: This article contains details about Monday night’s episode of The Good Doctor.

The intense fall finale of The Good Doctor starts with a surprise love affair and then gets dark with a viral outbreak which leads to lots of lives on the line. It was a very intense episode to end the year.

Early in the episode we see Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) and Dr. Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez) in bed together after a night of passion — and apparently there are no regrets. Shouldn’t be that much of a surprise as they have been planting seeds for this relationship throughout the season. All is good, right? Well, not really.

When two patients, who were on a flight to Malaysia, collapse outside the airport, they are brought to San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital and Dr. Murphy (Freddie Highmore) and Dr. Lim tend to them. Turns out the paramedic

The 2019 Sundance Film Festival Reveals Their 112 Movie Lineup

The 2019 Sundance Film Festival has unveiled their impressive lineup of independent films.

I love going to Sundance. It’s one of my favorite movie events to attend. One of the reasons I enjoy it so much is because they are all fresh and original films that tell original stories! For the most part there aren’t a lot of remakes, reboots, and sequels, which are mostly the kinds of films that fill theaters these days.

On top of that, you never know what you’re going to get when you walk into a screening. It could be complete and utter crap, or it could be one of the best films you’ve ever seen. It’s thrilling!

This coming year, The Sundance Film Festival will take place from January 24th to February 3rd, 2019 in Park City, Ut. Robert Redford, President and Founder of Sundance Institute, had this to say in

Sundance 2019: Alfre Woodard, Alec Baldwin + Making Of ‘Alien’, Satanists & Roy Cohn Docus Among U.S., World Cinema, Next, Midnight & Kids Slates
There isn’t anywhere nearly as much Donald Trump at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival as there was the past two years, but there is certainly a lot of everything else from all over the world.

With 112 films being shown at the Robert Redford founded snowy Utah shindig from January 24 to February 3 next year, the 35th Sundance’s mantra is more. Today’s unveiling of the U.S. Competition and World Cinema Competition Dramatic and Documentary categories plus the Midnight, Kids and Next slates for the 2019 Sff reveals, it is more representation, more equality and more outward looking.

As the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spotlighting docu Knock Down The Doors shows politics is still very much in the mix at Sundance 2019, which is drawing from the largest number of submissions the festival has ever had with 14,259 films from 152 countries putting themselves forward.

“Society relies on storytellers,” Redford said Wednesday of the 2019 Sff line-up.

How Golden Globe Supporting TV Actor Contenders Handle Overcrowded Category

  • Variety
Sometimes the more inclusive an awards category tries to be, the less fair it seems.

The Golden Globes categories for supporting actors are catch-alls, separating performers by gender but including comedy and drama series, limited series and television movies. The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. tweaked a number of rules for the 2019 awards, including that actors in ensemble series need to be classified all as lead or all as supporting, but it chose not to separate supporting nominees by genre. The HFPA declined to comment for this report as to why they are not reevaluating the categories. This means the competition among supporting players, who provide necessary shadings to production but in very different ways, is much more diverse — and complicated.

“I think there is a differential in all those different areas,” says Eric Lange, who gained 40 pounds to play a cuckolded husband in Showtime’s “Escape at Dannemora.” “At the same time,

Gun Shy (2000)

I had never heard of this comedy-thriller, and the good news is that it’s a pleasant surprise, thoroughly enjoyable. The toughest kind of filmmaking must be making comedy seem effortless, and that’s what Eric Blakeney does in this quirky, near-screwball take on the done-to-death drug deal undercover thriller. Liam Neeson is sensational, and producer Sandra Bullock is at her most charming. Even the flatulence jokes are funny.

Golden Globes spotlight: Freddie Highmore (‘The Good Doctor’) deserves a second bid for his outstanding work

ABC’s medical drama “The Good Doctor” kicked off its second season on September 24, and it still does not disappoint. The show’s star, Freddie Highmore, continues to shine in his portrayal of Shaun Murphy, a surgical resident with autism and savant syndrome. He received a Golden Globe nomination last year for Best TV Drama Actor, though he ended up losing to Sterling K. Brown (“This Is Us”). Will he be able to snag a second nomination?

In “The Good Doctor” season two premiere, Shaun proposed a treatment for a homeless person, which put himself and his colleague Jared (Chuku Modu) in the crosshairs of Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper), while a conflicted Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) had to make one of the most important decisions in his life. Highmore continues to rise to the challenges of the role, from the American accent to conveying the unique experiences of his neuroatypical character.

‘The Good Doctor’ Loses Its Mind When a Psychotic Hallucination Leads to the Truth

‘The Good Doctor’ Loses Its Mind When a Psychotic Hallucination Leads to the Truth
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “The Good Doctor” Season 2, Episode 4, “Tough Titmouse.”]

The Good Doctor” showrunner David Shore throws everything at Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff). He just underwent surgery for a brain tumor, but Monday’s episode deals with another kind of trauma when he starts interacting with a hallucination of his dead daughter Maddie (Holly Taylor).

“We wanted an opportunity to deal with what is the most important event in his life and his own unresolved issues,” Shore said. “This seemed like an opportune time as he is himself facing his own mortality.”

Glassman’s hallucination stems from the a combination of brain surgery and extreme sleep deprivation, with psychosis as the result. “ICU psychosis is fairly common. Psychosis obviously can mean many, many things, but sleep deprivation can cause the onset of it,” said Shore. “You experience all this as if it is completely real. It can be disturbing.”

‘Johnny English Strikes Again’ Review: Rowan Atkinson’s Latest Bond Parody Isn’t Even as Funny as Spy Movies It’s Spoofing

Like the monarchy, the metric system, and the inexplicable desire to refer to Madonna as “Madge,” the “Johnny English” franchise is one of those British things that’s never really made it across the Atlantic. Hatched from an ad campaign that remains considerably funnier than any of the feature comedies that have derived from it, these doddering James Bond spoofs are reliably massive draws on the other side of the pond, but American moviegoers don’t seem to have any interest in seeing Rowan Atkinson wreak havoc as a braindead spy who always manages to save the day. If nothing else, the limp and lifeless “Johnny English Strikes Again” serves as final confirmation that America was right to reject these moldy imports — consider it a pyrrhic victory for our paranoid new border policies.

More of the same, but also just a little bit less, “Johnny English Strikes Again” may not
