Liam Hemsworth, Adam Devine Join Rebel Wilson in ‘Isn’t It Romantic’
Liam Hemsworth and Adam Devine are set to star opposite Rebel Wilson in the New Line comedy “Isn’t It Romantic.”

Todd Strauss-Schulson is directing the movie.

The film follows a cynical woman, played by Wilson, who discovers that her life has become a romantic comedy. The two actors are involved in a love triangle with Wilson, with Devine playing a character who is stuck in the friend zone and Hemsworth as the object of Wilson’s affections.

Erin Cardillo wrote the first draft of the script. Dana Fox, Katie Silberman, and Paula Pell worked on the screenplay as well, with the most recent revisions by Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly.

Todd Garner, Grant Scharbo, Gina Matthews, and Jeremy Stein are producing the comedy. Production is set to start in June.

ITV Studios Inks First-Look Scripted TV Deal With Little Engine Productions

ITV Studios America and ITV Studios Global Entertainment have inked an overall first look programming development, production and distribution agreement with Little Engine Productions and its co-founders Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo.

Under the new pact, Matthews and Scharbo — who have been behind NatGeo’s mini-series “Saints & Strangers” and USA Network’s “Rush” — will work on scripted television content for networks and streaming platforms with ITV Studios America focusing on domestic projects and Global Entertainment focusing on European TV nets.

“Gina and Grant’s vision for Little Engine, their proven experience and their deep relationships with talent and networks around the world align seamlessly with our strategy to build a global scripted television business,” said Philippe Maigret, president of ITV Studios America. “When presented with the opportunity of finally working together to deliver compelling television for audiences worldwide, we knew it was something we could not pass up.”

Pitch Perfect and How to Be Single star Rebel Wilson has closed a deal to headline a new, as-yet-untitled romantic comedy at New Line, Variety has learned.

No word yet of a director to take the reins, though the outlet does reveal Todd Garner (Paul Blart: Mall Cop), Grant Scharbo and Gina Matthews are currently attached to produce. That search for a director will no doubt intensify now that Wilson has boarded the embryonic project, which is shaping up to be a meta rom-com centering on the actress’ cynical lead.

‘Saints & Strangers’ Cast on Bringing Early American Settlers to Life

As American children are taught in school, in November 1620, the Mayflower arrived in New England’s Provincetown Harbor after 66 days at sea.

This November, National Geographic Channel will go beyond what’s in the history books and delve into the world of the early settlers of that area with the ambitious scripted TV movie “Saints & Strangers.” In anticipation of the premiere, the cabler has released two behind-the-scenes teasers of the making of the miniseries exclusively to Variety.

“Growing up, we learn about the Mayflower and the colonization of America, but we never learn the whole story. The real story is an incredible survival story. ‘Saints & Strangers’ is the opportunity to tell the world about our country,” said executive producer Gina Matthews.

USA Network Sets Summer Premiere Dates for ‘Rush,’ ‘Satisfaction’ and Returnees
USA, one of the networks as the forefront of scripted summer drama over the years, will premiere two series and bring back four other dramas during the warm-weather months this year, it announced today.

In a bit of a surprise, the two newbies, renegade-doctor drama “Rush” and marriage drama “Satisfaction,” will premiere back-to-back from 9 to 11 p.m., without support from an existing series, on Thursday July 17.

Rush” stars Tom Ellis as bad-boy “medical fixer” William Rush, who privately caters to L.A.’s elite and whose service comes with a hefty pricetag.

Former Shield executive producer Adam Fierro has been tapped as executive producer/showrunner of USA Network‘s newly picked up drama series Rush, written, directed and executive produced by Jonathan Levine. The project, from Fox 21, centers on Dr. William Rush (Tom Ellis), who is not your average on-call doctor: He’s not attached to any hospital, he’s highly discreet no matter what the ailment — as long as the client can pay his cash-only premium — and the doctor can party with the best of them. Little Engine’s Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo also executive produce. USA Orders 2 New Medical Dramas, Sets Final Season of ‘White Collar’
USA Network has given series greenlights to two new medical dramas, “Rush” and “Complications,” and set a six-episode final season for “White Collar.”

The 10-episode pickups come on the heels of USA’s order last month for an untitled drama from writer Sean Jablonski to star Matt Passmore. USA will have a roster of 12 new and returning original returning series on its air this year. The drama boom is complemented by the cabler’s dive into original comedies.

“We are excited to usher in the next generation of USA dramas, alongside our signature returning originals that continue to attract a large and loyal fan base,” said USA prexy Chris McCumber. “This year USA will be showcasing more hours of original programming than ever before, including an unprecedented six new series and six returning shows.”

USA Orders Pilots from Creators of ‘Burn Notice,’ ‘Hell on Wheels’ and More
USA has added three drama pilots to its slate: one from “Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix, one from “Hell on Wheels” creators Joe and Tony Gayton, and another from “Warm Bodies” scribe Jonathan Levine.

“Complications” hails from “Burn Notice’s” Nix, and is a gritty medical drama that centers on an ER doctor whose life is transformed when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a young boy’s life and killing one of his attackers. Fox TV Studios will produce the pilot. Nix’s “Burn Notice” wrapped its run on USA last month after seven seasons.

“Novice,” from the Gayton brothers, follows a young man as he enters a life of crime after repeatedly trying to break into corporate America. The Gayton duo will write “Novice,” while 21 Laps/Adelstein’s Marty Adelstein, Shawn Levy and Becky Clements will exec produce. New Wave Entertainment’s Matt Ochacher will also exec produce.

TCA: NBC Unveils Hillary Clinton Mini to Star Diane Lane
NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt opened his Television Critics Assn. exec session by talking up the Peacock’s “year of improvement” and unveiling four high-profile longform projects in the works.

Greenblatt said the Peacock is working on a miniseries about Hillary Clinton to star Diane Lane; a reboot of “Rosemary’s Baby”; a new version of Stephen King’s “Tommyknockers”; and a historical project with Mark Burnett about the pilgrims’ landing at Plymouth Rock.

Greenblatt emphasized that networks “need to be in the event business…. All of (the new projects) have their own event nature.”

The role of Bill Clinton has not yet been cast, nor is there a completed script yet, Greenblatt said. He said the mini would likely air before Hillary Clinton formally declares herself to be a presidential candidate in 2016.
