Michael Savoie is an award-winning Cinematographer with innumerable television
documentaries to his credit, who has shot 16mm and 35 mm Film, and all
Electronic Capture formats. (High Definition, Beta and DV) for
broadcasters worldwide. He is well known in the independent Television
and Film production community both in Canada and abroad.
Michael got his start when he was invited by CBC to join The Journal, the networks' flagship news and current affairs program. From 1981 to 1989 he traveled the world shooting long-form television documentaries.
In 1989 he moved to the Film Production department of the CBC, and shot primarily current affairs documentaries. During this time, he also kept active in the independent film community as DOP on a number of multi-award winning films such as Born in Africa (CBC, PBS), Romeo and Juliet in Sarajevo (CBC, PBS), Murder on Abortion Row(CBC, PBS), Extraordinary People (CBC).
Michael was Producer of the film, Life and Times - Moe Norman (CBC)
In 2006, he instructed the Advanced Camera and Lighting Course in High Definition capture at Sheridan College, Ontario as well as the 3rd. Year Camera and Lighting course in the Media Arts Program.
Michael is a Full Member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers.
