In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we look at Ronan Keating and Paulina Rubio's When You Say Nothing At All, directed by Xavier Gens. Before he became one of the key figures of New French Extreme cinema (a wave of particularly brutal French horror movies in the late nineties and early aughts), and one of the prime examples of what they call vulgar auteurism, Xavier Gens was a music video director. His highest profile video was the one for Ronan Keating and Paulina Rubio's version of When You Say Nothing At All, which was already a hit as a solo-version for Ronan Keating. The version of the video that was directed...

The X Factor, created by America’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell, was a popular singing competition in the U.K. from 2004 to 2018. Cowell attempted an American version of the show, sometimes known as The X Factor USA, but it came to an end after just three seasons. However, ever since the finale, there have been talks of a revival. Cowell once again hinted at The X Factor USA coming back in an interview in December 2022. Here’s more on the original series and what we know about its future.

Even though it’s been decades since it first premiered, La Usurpadora remains one of the campiest, most beloved classics in the telenovela canon. Its 102-episode run was full of jaw-dropping plot twists and shocking surprises that gripped audiences from the moment the Spanish-language drama premiered in February 1998 (in Mexico, three out of every four people reportedly watched the show, which was broadcasted in more than 125 countries.)

The X Factor may be coming back the U.S. television, as creator and judge Simon Cowell appears to be in talks to revive the singing competition series on NBC.
Cowell said that the network had “offered us to make the show” during an interview with The Sun, adding: “Which means we’ll make the show here.”
Sources tell Deadline that the deal isn’t done yet. It would likely fall under Cowell’s expanded deal with NBCUniversal, which he signed last year.
It is unclear how The X-Factor would fit alongside NBC’s existing singing competition flagship The Voice, which currently airs two installments a season, as well as Cowell’s variety hit America’s Got Talent, a summer staple, which also has spawned a winter All-Stars spinoff.
When Fox carried both American Idol and The X-Factor, they each aired one installment per season — The X-Factor in the fall, and American Idol in the spring.

Having made quite a career out of telling people what he thinks about them, it appears that Simon Cowell will once again be deciding who has The X Factor, as the reality competition makes its way back to the States — possibly on NBC.
“I have a saying in life that’s ‘Always go where you’ve got the best invitation,’ and NBC has offered us to make the show here,” Cowell shared with The Sun earlier this week while out promoting NBC’s AGT: All Stars.

Aidan Euan’s not entirely sure if it reads on camera — spoiler: it does — that, when dressing Alexa Demie as Maddy Perez on “Euphoria,” he gave her a modern-but-nostalgic Mexican American stamp from the homes of his youth, the first being in Yucatán and the second in SoCal.
When designing the iconic outfits Maddy wears to strut down the hallways of East Highland High (or the occasional hospital wing) like it’s a runway or to bang on bathroom doors at parties, Euan tried to take the Y2K zeitgeist from his diasporic childhood and drape it on her — with a couple of Swarovski crystals to serve as the glittery cherry-on-top.
“The mood boards that I created to get to those ideas come from her character and who she is in my head,” Euan says. “Maddy is a mix of a lot of the telenovela and Latina stars of the early 2000s,...

After the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday night denied a request to issue emergency relief blocking Texas’ new law that bans abortion at six weeks and, say opponents, effectively eliminates access to abortions statewide, some big names in entertainment expressed their opinions about the legislation.
A group of prominent actors, musicians and other artists and companies swiftly responded to the news on social media. Reese Witherspoon, Alyssa Milano, Dua Lipa, Kerry Washington, St. Vincent, Eva Longoria Baston, Bad Robot and P!nk were among them. Many shared an image with the text, “I stand in solidarity with Texans & people everywhere seeking reproductive freedom.” The full list of the celebrities who support that sentiment is below; the vast majority of the signatories are women.
Washington also shared a link to a Planned Parenthood petition which, among other things, maintains that “health care — including safe, legal abortion — is a human right.

“The Masked Singer” has been host to a lot of professional singer contestants throughout its five-season run, and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy think yet another has joined the show: Demi Lovato.
In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from Wednesday’s episode of the Fox singing competition, Scherzinger gives her theory about the identity of the Black Swan contestant, which McCarthy ends up agreeing with.
“We saw the scale of justice, right? So I’m thinking, Ok, could it be a judge?” Scherzinger says in the video, which you can view above. “I was getting a lot of ‘X-Factor’ vibes. Could have been a judge on the ‘X-Factor,’ like Demi Lovato with those vocals.”
Hey, if anyone on “The Masked Singer” panel is going to correctly guess that a competitor is actually a former “The X-Factor” judge, it’s probably going to be Scherzinger, a former “The X-Factor” judge.

Paulina Rubio threw many fans for a loop at a concert for women when she blurted out "We love you, Donald Trump" -- but it appears to have been purely for literary effect. Paulina Rubio knew at a very young age that she was going to be famous apparently. It’s not so much conceit really as it is a hard-wired determination and likely a very big dose of confidence since her mother was an actor and her father was a lawyer. I grew up with telenovelas. I lived in Mexico during my formative years, and telenovelas were appointment viewing, with my friends and I faithfully gathering after school to watch the latest episodes. They had wonderful and outlandish names and dealt with cheating spouses, long-lost siblings, lucrative business deals, and a whole lot of evening gowns worn inside the house. Through those telenovelas, we saw that we could be anything we wanted to be when we grew up: rancheras who had to keep our land away from dastardly uncles; evil stepmothers with heavy, gaudy earrings; romantic heroes with two, three, even four different love interests; nuns and time travelers and high school women. We were inspired, and our imaginations ran wild with possibilities for our future lives. Telenovelas, in all their hyper-stylized dramatic storytelling, taught me that, as a young Latina, I could be anything I wanted.
