Andy Richter reacts to losing Daytime Emmy to Tom Kenny (‘SpongeBob SquarePants’): ‘Wtf, he should have 10 by now’
Andy Richter was up for a Daytime Emmy this year: Best Performer in an Animated Program for voicing Mort, Grammy Mort, and Smart Mort in “All Hail King Julien: Exiled.” But at the Creative Arts Awards on Friday night, April 27, he lost to Tom Kenny for playing the title role in the long-running Nickelodeon series “SpongeBob SquarePants.” Richter didn’t mind, though. In fact, when he found out that that was Kenny’s very first Emmy nomination and win, he tweeted, “Wtf, academy? Tom is a genius and he should have won at least 10 by now.”

This was the second Emmy nomination for Richter in the race for Best Performer in an Animated Program. He was previously nominated in 2017 for voicing Mort, Smart Mort, Morticus Khan, and Ted in “All Hail King Julien.” In addition to that, Richter has accumulated seven Primetime Emmy bids for his work as a writer

‘Santa Clarita Diet’ Season 2 Trailer: Drew Barrymore is Eating People Again for Some Reason

There are only so many places that a show can go once its main character has killed (and devoured large portions of) three people. For “Santa Clarita Diet,” the apparent directive was simple: more Hootie and the Blowfish.

Netflix released a sneak peek of Season 2 with a trailer that shows just how dire things have gotten for the Hammonds. As Sheila (Drew Barrymore) and Joel (Timothy Olyphant) deal with the fallout of the Season 1 scheme that saw them finding new ways to satisfy the former’s newfound appetite for human flesh, it’s fully engulfed their entire family. Just look at Abby not flinching at a disembodied head in their basement!

But aside from the cannibalistic turmoil inside their own house, the Hammonds now have to deal with a slew of new and returning faces. Natalie Morales is back as Anne Garcia, presumably hot on the trail of those particularly suspicious recent disappearances.

Andy Richter Talks About The Differences In Hollywood Now Versus 1993, And It's Pretty Fascinating

With television reaching an all-time high in quality, Andy Richter says things have changed a lot since the 90s. One of those big changes is the emphasis on digital content, which Richter says has become an entirely different entity on Conan. He's not wrong as the show likely gets a healthy amount of revenue from its YouTube channel, and has managed to spawn a spin-off series off of one of its segments (Clueless Gamer).

Another thing Richter mentions is the reduction in pay. With so many networks having great shows, the television audience is being spread thin and networks are competing for ratings numbers that would've been laughed at by networks in the 90s. In a biting remark, Richter says successful shows are pulling numbers that his shows were canceled for back in the day, which is pretty telling.

Hear Richter go more in-depth on all that in a fascinating
