‘The Simpsons’ Responds to Apu Controversy: ‘Some Things Will Be Dealt With At A Later Date’
The Simpsons” has responded to criticism about the stereotypical portrayal of Springfield’s Kwik-e-Mart proprietor Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. On Sunday’s episode, “No Good Read Goes Unpunished,” Marge and Lisa Simpson allude to the fact that “The Simpsons” has not quite figured out what to do with the character, or when to address it.

In the episode, the Simpsons visit a book store after Marge confiscates the family’s digital devices. At the store, Bart gravitates to “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu, and uses what he learns to take on Homer. Marge, meanwhile, attempts to hook her daughter on her favorite book as a child, [the fictional] “The Princess in the Garden” by Heloise Hodgeson Burwell — yes, a riff on “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

Once Marge begins reading “The Princess in the Garden” to Lisa, she quickly realizes the old book was a lot more offensive and racist than she remembered.

Animation’s Whitewashing Problem: ‘Rick and Morty,’ ‘BoJack Horseman,’ ‘The Simpsons’ Producers On How To Fix It

  • Indiewire
When “Rick and Morty” writer Jessica Gao wrote the episode “Pickle Rick” last season, she created a character named Dr. Wong, with an eye toward casting an Asian American actress in the part. But then Susan Sarandon suddenly became available, and the Oscar-winning actress was tapped for the role instead.

Adding insult to injury: The character’s last name stayed the same, which meant a white actress ultimately played family therapist Dr. Wong.

“The whole point of writing a character like Dr. Wong was because I wanted there to be an Asian character on ‘Rick and Morty,'” Gao said. “And I also specifically wanted to give a job to an Asian actress.”

While Hollywood’s embarrassing practice of tapping white actors to play characters of color has at least become a hotly discussed issue in the live action world (think Emma Stone in “Aloha” and Scarlett Johansson in “Ghost in the Shell

Review: Scooby-Doo! and Batman: The Brave and the Bold

  • Comicmix
I wish I had a grandchild to enjoy Scooby-Doo! and Batman: The Brave and the Bold with since I am far from the target audience. I was outgrowing Saturday morning TV when Scooby and the gang debuted and never warmed up to them. Over time, the troublesome teens have encountered countless pop culture celebrities in their storied career but this, their fourth meeting with the Caped Crusader, is a record.

It makes perfect sense that the 1960s homage version of Batman (Diedrich Bader) is used here since it is stylistically appropriate for this sort of crossover. Paul Giacoppo acquits himself well with a breezy script that uses touchstone elements from both series so fans are satisfied. Comics aficionados will appreciate the use of the New Look era Mystery Analysts of Gotham, even though the novelists have been replaced by the more colorful Martian Manhunter (Nicholas Guest), Detective Chimp (Kevin Michael Richardson

Scooby-Doo and Batman Preview Brings Mystery Inc. to Arkham Asylum

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a new clip and two new photos for Scooby-Doo & Batman: The Brave and The Bold, which fans can pick up on DVD and Digital HD starting today. This clip features Batman (Diedrich Bader) revealing that he had no idea The Riddler was involved with Professor Milo, as Velma (Kate Micucci) stats they have to question him. Batman, on the other hand, thinks they need to sit this one out.

Fred (Fred Welker) protests Batman's assessment, stating they've "explored tons of spooky places," but Batman states that they've never been any place like this, which turns out to be Arkham Asylum. While Velma is excited for the chance to explore new levels of the "criminal psyche,

Lego DC Super Heroes: The Flash Gets Trailer And Release Date

With a hit CW series and a recent appearance in the Justice League‘s first silver screen outing now under his belt, one could say that everything’s coming up Flash. In fact, not only is the Flashpoint movie said to be still in some phase of production, but the Scarlet Speedster will soon headline an animated flick in the form of Lego DC Super Heroes: The Flash.

Now, it should be noted that much like his aforementioned solo movie or the animated film that was based on the very same source material, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, the next direct-to-video Lego offering won’t afford Barry Allen the luxury of starring in a motion picture entirely free of his heroic cohorts. But the fact that Warner Bros. are allowing him to be the central focus is still nothing to shake Weather Wizard’s wand at.

When it comes to the plot itself,

A Darker Justice League Cut Test Screened, Here's What's Missing

A Darker Justice League Cut Test Screened, Here's What's Missing
Warner Bros.' Justice League still managed to perform well, despite a middling critical reception and the lowest box office opening weekend of the four Dceu movies released so far. Shortly after the release, a group of fans put together a petition for Warner Bros. to release Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League. While many have said that this cut doesn't exist in any proper form, it appears there is an alternative cut for the movie that doesn't have as many jokes. During his new Fatman on Batman podcast, filmmaker and hardcore DC fan Kevin Smith offered fresh details about this darker cut, which had screened before the theatrical cut came. Here's what Kevin Smith had to say, when a fan asked if he thought Warner Bros. would release the Zack Snyder cut on home video.

"There's a petition online with something like 250,000 signatures saying put out the Snyder cut.

Justice League Composer Explains Why He Brought Back Classic Themes

Justice League composer Danny Elfman spoke to DC All-Access recently and was able to shed some light on his process for scoring the long-awaited – but sadly troubled now it’s here – team-up movie. Perhaps the most talked-about aspect of his work is the decision to revisit familiar themes from DC’s past. Elfman was on hand to explain why he felt the need to do that, and said the following about it:

“The whole crazy jigsaw puzzle of Justice League was how to incorporate old and new and how to make it all work together. It was my feeling when I came on the project that DC already had these really cool [musical] elements and that they shouldn’t be ignored, that we should pull it all together, that we should make it part of the DC legacy.”

On paper, the idea to resurrect iconic themes of the past like John Williams

Justice League VFX Video Reveals Batman and Cyborg's Superhero Secrets

Justice League VFX Video Reveals Batman and Cyborg's Superhero Secrets
A new VFX reel for Justice League has just been released online and it gives us a sneak peek into the digital special effects that went into making the little details of Dceu movie look as great as it does. The movie finally hit theaters last week after months of controversy and speculation and while the movie is divisive, one thing that almost everybody can agree upon is that the villainous Steppenwolf looks like he has on way too much CGI makeup and really doesn't look scary or evil at all. The new VFX reel focuses on the heroes of the Justice League and their user interfaces that do a lot of the heavy lifting, not the overall CGI used in the movie.

The Justice League VFX reel shows off some of the lesser-seen elements of the movie, but they are integral pieces to the movie that deserve some spotlight.

Justice League: Director’s Cut, Lord & Miller break silence on Han Solo firing, Ant-Man and The Wasp set photos and more – Daily News Roundup

Justice League: The Director’S Cut

It was revealed earlier this year that Zack Snyder was stepping down as director on Justice League, with Joss Whedon filling in for him. However one of the bigger complaints from film goers about the rather disappointing DC team-up movie was that Whedon’s jokes and Danny Elfman’s music were misplaced in Snyder’s work. As such, some fans have started a petition for Warner Bros. to release Snyder’s original cut of the movie – which they feel will be a better version. Read more here.

Justice League Deleted Scenes

In a new interview with Gamespot, Ray Fisher has spoken about a deleted scene – seen in the trailers – of a pre-Cyborg Victor Stone. “There were some things that you’ll probably end up seeing later on, that didn’t make it into this version of the film,” he said. “There’s a scene with Victor Stone,
