After Roger Delgado, he was the second actor to play the Master, the Doctor's greatest rival Time Lord, in Doctor Who (1963). He played the role in the 1976 serial "The Deadly Assassin". He was succeeded in the role by Geoffrey Beevers, Anthony Ainley, Gordon Tipple, Eric Roberts, Derek Jacobi, John Simm and Michelle Gomez.
