Jumanji 2 Beats Spider-Man as Sony's Highest Grossing Movie

While Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is winding down its epic box office run, the global blockbuster just beat a 16-year-old record. The sequel just passed the $403.7 million tally of 2002's Spider-Man, to become Sony's highest-grossing movie ever. Worldwide, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has taken in $950.7 million worldwide, and while it won't cross the $1 billion plateau, or best Skyfall ($1.1 billion) as Sony's highest grossing worldwide film, it did earn over 10 times its $90 million budget. Here's what Sony Pictures Entertainment Group chairman Tom Rothman had to say about how Jumanji managed to pull off this impressive feat.

""It's not the IP, it's the 'I,' the idea. Before the obsession grew with known properties only, big ideas are what powered big movies."

Rothman added that the core story, where four teenagers are turned into video game avatars that represent their polar opposites in the real world, is a, "big,

Jumanji 3 Is Officially Happening, May Kill Off Kevin Hart

Jumanji 3 Is Officially Happening, May Kill Off Kevin Hart
Jumanji 3 is officially happening. This is not at all surprising, given the success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle at the box office, which is still chugging along very slowly and is near the $1 billion mark. There had been reports that Sony was already developing a sequel, with the same cast and core creative team in place, but now it's a sure thing. Dwayne Johnson took to social media to announced that Jumanji 3 is being worked on. His plate is rather full of projects right now, but this one sounds like a priority.

The Rock took to Instagram to provide his fans with a little update, just as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle officially became Sony's highest-grossing domestic release ever at the box office. The sequel to the original 1995 movie, which starred the late Robin Williams, has just passed Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man, with a domestic total of $403.7 million.

‘Jumanji’ Becomes Highest-Grossing Film in Sony History
Move over “Spider-Man,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” just became Sony Pictures’ high-grossing film of all time.

The hit, starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, reached $403.714 million at the domestic box office on Tuesday, breaking the record at Sony, which has been held by “Spider-Man,” with Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, since 2002.

Directed by Jake Kasdan, and produced by Matt Tolmach and William Teitler, “Jumanji” is also the top-earning Sony-owned film at the global box office, having reeled in $950 million worldwide, and the second-highest-grossing film ever released by the studio, behind “Skyfall.” The movie is the highest-earning one on Johnson, Black, and Hart’s resumes as well.

“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” which was not expected to be the blockbuster it has become, was No. 1 at the box office for four consecutive weeks following its Dec. 20 release. A continuation of 1995’s “Jumanji,” the movie follows four

Woody Harrelson is Reportedly Playing Carnage in The Venom Movie

When Woody Harrelson was cast in Venom, there was speculation among fans that maybe he could end up playing Carnage in the film. Well, according to a new report from Bleeding Cool, he actually will be playing Carnage. The entertainment news site has been hit or miss with their movie scoop intel, so even though they say they can confirm it, we are going to treat it as a rumor for now.

However, if Woody Harrelson is playing Carnage that would be awesome! He is a great actor, who has played some wicked cool villains, and I'm sure he would do some great things with bringing the character to life on the big screen.

I have no idea how exactly Carnage will be portrayed in the movie, but in the comics, he is a serial killer named Cletus Kasady who is infected by the alien symbiote. Carnage is one of Spider-Man's most murderous,

Rumor Has It That There Won't Be Much of Venom in the Upcoming Venom Movie

A new rumor has surfaced regarding Tom Hardy's upcoming Venom movie and if it proves to be true, fans probably won't be happy. According to Manabyte.com, Venom is reportedly hardly in the film.

I hope that's not the case! The first trailer that was released for the film saw a lot of backlash from fans. Not just because there was no Venom, but it just wasn't an interesting trailer. It looked like a trailer you might see for a generic thriller. This is all just a rumor at this point, but just in case...

The untested site reports that according to an alleged plot break down that’s being spread around, "the majority of the movie sees the symbiote manifest itself via veins on Brock’s arms, tendrils, additional arms, and a shield during a car chase. The plot spoilers match up with scenes in the teaser trailer exactly,

First ‘Venom’ Trailer Teases the Symbiote

Sony has finally released the trailer for long-awaited ‘Venom‘ standalone movie. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer, and stars Tom Hardy as the titular anti-hero, with a script by Scott Rosenberg & Jeff Pinkner and Kelly Marcel and Will Beal. Plot details are pretty much non-existent at this point, but we do know that ‘Venom‘ is intended to be a standalone piece that doesn’t connect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that the story fro this particular film will be derived from the ‘Planet of the Symbiotes‘ and ‘Lethal Protector‘ comic storylines. We’ve only just recently seen the first image from the film, along with hearing rumors that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man might make a cameo, but and this first trailer does a good job of teasing the film, while also keeping things fairly under wraps for the time being

It’s interesting, because these two storylines paint

The alien Symbiote from the Spider-Man universe will stalk the screen in a new Venom movie this October, and Sony has now unleashed the first teaser trailer for the Tom Hardy-starring film.

In Venom, Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock, a man who becomes linked with an alien Symbiote that turns him into Venom, one of the ultimate villains in the Spider-Man universe. Although Venom and the Symbiote have a big influence on Spider-Man in the Marvel comic books, this film is expected to take place outside of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, which includes the recent appearance by the web-slinger in this year's Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) directed Venom from a screenplay by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal on board as producers. In addition to Hardy, Venom stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Reid Scott, and Jenny Slate.

Hardy’s character awakens in an Mri machine in the hospital after what appears to be an accident — shown in bits and pieces in flashbacks.

“Everyone’s got their thing. Maybe it’s a breakup, a death, an accident. Whatever it is, you used to be one thing. Now, you’re something else,” he says in the voiceover. “We all have our own problems. Our own issues. Our own … demons.”

The teaser for the film, which doesn’t resemble a superhero tentpole, ends with Hardy’s Eddie Brock screaming at the top of his lungs as his body shakes in the machine. Brock doesn’t appear as his alter ego Venom in the footage.

The First Teaser Trailer For Tom Hardy's Venom Has Been Unleashed

Sony Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for Tom Hardy's Venom, and unfortunately, it doesn't give us much. This is very much a tease of what's to come. It features a lot of Tom Hardy, but it doesn't show us what he'll actually look like as Venom.

It pretty much sets the stage for the story and Eddie Brock's transformation. This first teaser trailer didn't really do anything to get me excited, but I'm still looking forward to seeing how this movie turns out! I still hope that it's good! Maybe you'll enjoy the trailer more than I did. I just expected a better first impression.

Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock, the host for Venom. He will be joined by Michelle Williams (The Greatest Showman), Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Jenny Slate (Zootopia) and Woody Harrelson (True Detective).

Venom is being directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland,

Sony Pictures Releases New Poster for ‘Venom’

The upcoming ‘Venom‘ spin-off film is the first in what Sony Pictures hopes to be a series of films set in the “Spider-verse” which will give Spider-Man characters their own films. Tom Hardy will star as Eddie Brock in this version of the popular Spider-Man character which has not been seen in 11 years. The character first appeared on the big screen in the Sam Rami directed Spider-Man 3 (2007). We have yet to see a glimpse of what the character will look like this time around and there has not been any footage or synopsis released, but we do finally have a poster to add to the official photo that was released earlier this year.

Sony Pictures has released a poster for the film and it at least gives us a logo for now.

The film is currently due to hit theaters October 5 but the poster just displays the month of the release.
