Left her native Wales in 1939 to settle in the United States. First acted at the Woodstock Theater in New York, going on to a distinguished stage career in the 1940's and 50's. Her crowning success was winning the Clarence Derwent Award for her performance as Birdie Bagtry in a Lillian Hellman Broadway play, "Another Part of the Forest" in 1947.
