Exclusive: Ari Aster’s new A24 film Eddington has rounded out its cast with four additions: William Belleau (Killers of the Flower Moon), Cameron Mann (Mare of Easttown), Matt Gomez Hidaka (Silo), and Amélie Hoeferle (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes).
The actors join a stacked ensemble led by Joaquin Phoenix, who reteams with Aster and A24 following their collaboration on surreal epic Beau Is Afraid, as previously reported. Additional cast includes Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Luke Grimes, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, and Clifton Collins Jr.
While the film’s plot is being guarded, it’s been discussed as a Western. Aster is directing from his own script and producing alongside Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner. Production on the film kicked off earlier this month.

These savvy pundits from major media outlets have chimed in with their first set of predictions, and they say the trophy will go to either Jon Hamm (“Fargo”) or Tom Hollander (“Feud: Capote vs. the Swans”). The other potential nominees at this early stage are David Oyelowo (“Lawmen: Bass Reeves”), Hiroyuki Sanada (“Shogun”), Matt Bomer (“Fellow Travelers”) and Andrew Scott (“Ripley”) — but that could all change in the coming months.

Zac Efron once had a much-talked about love scene with on-screen partner Nicole Kidman in The Paperboy. Efron’s ex-partner, Michelle Rodriguez, was one of many who saw the feature. And she was as candid as usual about her thoughts.

Rodriguez confided that she enjoyed The Paperboy, although that didn’t seem to be the popular opinion at the time. The movie was a Matthew McConaughey-led picture directed by Lee Daniels, and featured several stars including John Cusack and David Oyelowo. Despite its star-power, the movie received mixed-reviews that leaned over to the negative. But Rodriguez didn’t care for the critics’ opinion.

The Oscars (March 10) are finally, finally almost here. Come March 11, we can finally start talking about movies that aren’t Academy Award-nominated! Actually, make that March 12, as March 11 will be a day of chips still falling as pundits and amateur Oscar sleuths sift the wreckage and remains of what went right or wrong, bemoaning or celebrating their placement in Oscar pools and online rankings. Oh, and there are of course the awards PR reps doing the same.

Wes Anderson is long overdue an Oscar. The iconic director has been nominated seven times and lost on all seven occasions. He earned his eighth nomination this year for Best Live Action Short Film for his Roald Dahl adaptation “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” (shared with Steven Rales).
However, Anderson could find himself trumped again as there is an impactful, emotional, heartfelt obstacle in his way: Misan Harriman‘s “The After.” Harriman, who rose to prominence as a photographer, has created one of the year’s most talked about short films with “The After.” The Netflix short follows David Oyelowo as a man who suffers an extraordinary loss and attempts to go through the ensuing healing process.
The movie has earned plenty of A-list supporters, with Angelina Jolie, Jeff Bridges, and Oprah all making it known how much they adored the tragic short film. Meghan Markle also conducted a...

If the Academy judged features by the same standards that they do live action shorts, the best picture ballot would be full of starry, quasi-political issue movies: well-meaning but manipulative films like “Father Stu” and “The Janes.” In this category, it’s the message that matters to Oscar voters, which makes this year’s “2024 Oscar Nominated Short Films: Live Action” program (available exclusively in theaters from ShortsTV) one of the most frustrating lineups in recent memory. Or it would, if not for the presence of one genuinely brilliant, liberatingly unserious nominee among them. That would be “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” the best of several delightful Roald Dahl adaptations director Wes Anderson cooked up for Netflix … but we’ll come to that in due time.

The movie Bring Him to Me explores themes of guilt, addiction, and grief through a tense, single-location thriller narrative. Barry Pepper's character, the Driver, is a getaway driver dealing with inner turmoil, represented visually through his unkempt appearance. Pepper's method acting approach immerses him deeply in his roles, even leading to sleepwalking and intense processing after filming wraps.
A man begins to question his entire life of crime over the course of one fateful drive in Bring Him to Me. The movie stars Lawmen: Bass Reeves' Barry Pepper as the Driver, a criminal getaway driver tasked with transporting one of the crew members of a robbery gone awry, who is believed to have stolen some of the money from the job, to their boss to face the music.

The 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards have wrapped, and the full SAG winners list shows momentum for Lily Gladstone in the Best Actress race at the Oscars — as well as for “Oppenheimer” and its very possible march toward Best Picture.
“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” led the nominations when they were announced January 10 with four each. “Oppenheimer” ended up winning the most of any film, with three prizes: Best Cast (the top prize), Best Actor Cillian Murphy, and Best Supporting Actor Robert Downey Jr. “Barbie” went home empty-handed.
Lily Gladstone won Best Actress for “Killers of the Flower Moon” over Emma Stone for “Poor Things,” who won the prize at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. After what has been an incredibly predictable awards season for television in the last month with all the previous ceremonies checking “Succession,” “The Bear” and “Beef” down the line, it would make sense to presume that the Screen Actors Guild Awards this weekend will just follow the herd and honor the same champs. But lest we forget, we have seen time and time again where SAG-AFTRA does their own thing and sometimes yields surprising results, stopping some actors and shows in their tracks that have been on a roll. Read below for some recent shocking TV winners at the SAG Awards and what it could mean this year.
Beginning with last year’s ceremony, the two limited series/television movie acting winners were way off course of who was expected to triumph. For best actress, Amanda Seyfried was sweeping all the televised awards for “The Dropout” and was expected to complete the run with SAG,...

Keanu Reeves expressed interest in joining the Yellowstone series, sparking speculation about potential roles he could play. He could potentially replace Kevin Costner as the new head of the Dutton family and owner of the Yellowstone Ranch. Another possibility is that Reeves could play Jamie's long-lost brother, providing an interesting dynamic within the family.
Keanu Reeves has expressed his interest in appearing in Yellowstone, and there are a few characters the action star could play. The saga of Yellowstone season 5 has been a tumultuous one that was rocked by the announcement that Kevin Costner would be leaving the series after a dispute with creator Taylor Sheridan. However, a behind-the-scenes update in February 2024 hinted that Costner may not be as finished with the Western TV series as initially thought. Whatever the case is, Yellowstone and its spinoffs remain extremely popular and profitable.
The Yellowstone Sheridanverse has a knack for casting the perfect actors in their parts.

There exist three Oscar categories where it’s possible to watch all nominated films in one shot – that’s shorts, Animated, Live Action and Documentary. Packaged into three feature length films presented by ShortsTV, the Oscar Nominated Short Films open in theaters today for a four-week run on about 650 screens in the U.S. and Canada.
It’s 19-year tradition popular with audiences and theaters. Each film is also “an event. Then you can go argue about who you think should win,” says ShortsTV founder and CEO Carter Pilcher.
Theater owners can screen any or all of the three compilations however and whenever they want from a traditional run to a one-week marathon before the Academy Awards on March 10.
Pilcher says the animated bundle tends to do the best historically, although the 2023 short called My Year Of Dicks nudged out some of the family audiences that love animation, giving Live Action the win.

Exclusive: What does it take to become Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King Jr? David Oyelowo took on the challenge for Ava DuVernay’s underrated 2014 film Selma. It’s all there in Becoming King, a new documentary coming to Paramount+.
The 1965 march through the segregationist state of Alabama resulted in brutal beatings by local authorities and white vigilante groups as activist marchers crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge en route to the state house in Montgomery. They didn’t get there, that day. Called Bloody Sunday, the nationally televised footage was shocking and shameful, and it left activist and future congressman John Lewis with a fractured skull. Six days later, President Lyndon Johnson had seen enough and gave a nationwide TV address pledging support for a National Voting Rights bill that became law after he introduced it in Congress. It was a milestone moment.

No matter the size of his role, you can't take your eyes off Lakeith Stanfield, and the same is true of his performance in The Book of Clarence. According to co-stars David Oyelowo and Anna Diop, Stanfield has an indescribable "God-given talent," a talent that paved the way to yet another stellar collaboration with writer-director, Jeymes Samuel. After working together on The Harder They Fall, Stanfield headlines Samuel's second feature film, The Book of Clarence.

The Book of Clarence is a religious comedy that draws inspiration from the Bible to explore spirituality. The movie incorporates genuine biblical characters and lore to underscore its themes and moral teachings. The film has contemporary flourishes and portrays a personal journey of redemption, rather than preaching religion.
Written and directed by Jeymes Samuel, The Book of Clarence is a religious comedy that opened to the masses on Jan. 12, 2024. The story follows Clarence (Lakeith Stanfield), a sinful huckster living in A.D. 33 Jerusalem among Jesus Christ and his disciples. To rid himself of mounting debt, Clarence pretends to be the new Messiah sent directly from God and begins manipulating those around him for his own gain and glory. During his quest, Clarence adopts moral tenets and learns to be more benevolent.
Considering the characters, title, and setting, it's easy to wonder if The Book of Clarence is officially based on the bible.

Biblical epics used to be Hollywood's bread and butter. From "The Ten Commandments" to "Ben-Hur," the unique blend of high-stakes drama, and big-scale spectacle used to dominate the box office as well as awards season. Today, they've all but disappeared from the filmmaking landscape. This makes the release of a movie like "The Book of Clarence" all the more special.
Written and directed by Jeymes "The Bullitts" Samuel ("The Harder They Fall"), "The Book of Clarence" combines a biblical epic with the comedic tone of Monty Python's "Life of Brian" or Mel Brook's "History of the World," poking fun at the story of a rising messiah, and the man who sees that fame and power and decides to get some of that for himself.

Directorial debut and Oscar Nominated short The After from Misan Harriman is a visceral look at the traumatic nature of grief and the power of acts of empathy. The already well established photographer exercised his cultivated eye for aesthetics, an instinctive comprehension of imagery and a tender understanding of the human condition to bring the harrowing tale of a man forced to deal with insurmountable grief to the screen. Streaming on Netflix, The After has already, and will no doubt continue to, resonated with swathes of people as it taps into universal struggles with the agony of loss and captures the unfaltering way in which the world continues to move around us despite our innermost turmoil. After successfully reaching out to David Oyelowo on Instagram, who embodies his role with heartbreaking authenticity, Harriman embarked on a whirlwind collaborative journey filming on the streets of London and working within a whole new medium of creative expression.

Samuel L. Jackson, Jeffrey Wright, and David Oyelowo have all portrayed civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., whose Atlanta sit-ins, Montgomery bus boycotts, and peaceful protests desegregated the nation. When Kelvin Harrison Jr. was first offered the role, he was overwhelmed by the weight of the historical figure and turned it down.
“I still was a little bit scared and unsure if that was something that I needed to be participating in,” Harrison tells Rolling Stone. “I didn’t really see what I could offer in this moment, and...

It takes multiple hands of masters, artists and filmmakers to bring a story to life, no matter the cinematic medium. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has designated categories to recognize the achievements of artists working on animation, documentary features, and shorts, an opportunity to be rewarded. However, just because you directed or produced one of these specialty films doesn’t mean these contributions will be officially named in the Oscar nominations.
To the untrained Oscar eye, it might not be obvious that despite “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” picking up a nomination for best animated feature, one of the three directors, Joaquim Dos Santos, was not among the listed nominees. The official nominees from “Spider-Verse” are Dos Santos’ fellow directors Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, producing partners Phil Lord and Christopher Miller,...

One thing that should always be of note when it comes to the Shorts and Animation branch is that it probably does the best job of looking at the work before looking at the name behind it. Some Oscar winners that directed and/or produced Best Live Action Short contenders that made the 2024 Oscars shortlist, but did not get nominated include Pedro Almodóvar, Alfonso Cuarón, and Emma Thompson. If an established name wants to come for the awards most tailored to burgeoning filmmakers, they best come correct.
That is why it is so huge that Wes Anderson received a nomination for his Netflix short “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,...
