On a Road of Personal Discovery in First Trailer for 'In Search of Fellini'

"This is your life - what do you want to do?" Ambi Media Group and Spotted Cow Entertainment debuted an official trailer for an indie coming-of-age film called In Search of Fellini, which is indeed about a young woman's search for Fellini. Ksenia Solo stars as a shy small-town Ohio girl who discovers Federico Fellini's "delightfully bizarre films" (see IMDb) and sets off on a journey across Italy to find him. Along the way, she discovers herself and romance and tasty Italian candy and much more. The cast includes Maria Bello, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Beth Riesgraf, Andrea Osvárt, and David O'Donnell. This looks quite adorable, and cute, very much a film-lovers adventure, though it does seem a bit cliche with its story. Enjoy. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Taron Lexton's In Search of Fellini, direct from YouTube: In this coming-of-age adventure, Lucy (Ksenia Solo), a shy

Film Review: ‘Worlds Apart’

It’s been shown, on occasion, that audiences will turn out to see a movie about the post-9/11 world: a serious and inquiring drama of war, terrorism, and global culture clash. But even in an era as fraught with instability as this one, will people show up to see a movie that mirrors their economic anxieties? With rare exceptions (like “Up in the Air,” an early Hollywood responder to the 2008 meltdown that was followed by…not very much), the answer is no. That nerve is simply too raw.

Yet I can’t help but believe that a great wrenching drama that brilliantly channeled the collapse of the middle class would have the potential to strike a powerful chord with a mass audience. “Worlds Apart,” a small-scale drama from Greece, is like the baby-steps version of that movie. It interweaves three stories (sort of like “Babel,” though all set in one place — in this case,

Life-After-Auschwitz Tale Anita B. Is Mired by Sentiment

Life-After-Auschwitz Tale Anita B. Is Mired by Sentiment
Anita (Eline Powell), the hero of Roberto Faenza’s new Holocaust film, is a Hungarian Jew and, as the picture opens, survivor of a recently liberated Auschwitz, where she had been interned since childhood through the war. We’re introduced to Anita as she’s welcomed, a bit cautiously, into a small-town home in the mountains of Czechoslovakia. There her Aunt Monica (Andrea Osvárt), now Anita’s closest living relation, is leading a quiet, docile life with her family — and wants very much to keep the horrors of the Shoah in the past. Anita’s arrival, it soon becomes clear, makes all this willed ignorance difficult: In this young girl’s face Monica sees the lingering pain of a history she’d rather not think about. This ...

New Trailer for TNT’s Transporter: The Series Starring Chris Vance

TNT has released a new trailer for their new show Transporter: The Series. Like the films, the show centers on (played on the TV series by Chris Vance), an ex-Special Forces field operative who has taken to transporting precious cargo to make a living. Judging by the trailer, this show should be very familiar to fans of the movies. There are the car chases, the fancy clothes, the fistfights, the gun play, and the quips. Considering the episodic nature of the premise, I'm surprised it took this long for it to become a TV show. Andrea Osvart co-stars as a former CIA agent who organizes Martin’s missions (and teases as a love interest). Hit the jump to check out the Transporter: The Series trailer. The show premieres on TNT this fall. Here's the official synopsis for Transporter: The Series: The international hit Transporter The Series is coming to U.

TNT Picks Up Action Drama 'Transporter: The Series,' Based on the Jason Statham Franchise
TNT has picked up the U.S. rights to "Transporter: The Series," an international action drama based on the Luc Besson-produced film franchise about meticulous, skilled driver-for-hire Frank Martin, played by Jason Statham. British actor Chris Vance, who played "freelance psychopath" Mason Gilroy on "Burn Notice" and Dr. Jack Gallagher on "Mental," the short-lived 2009 Fox series set in L.A. but shot in Bogotá, stars as the small screen incarnation of Frank. François Berléand, reprising his role from the films as Inspector Tarconi, is also in the cast, alongside Andrea Osvárt, Delphine Chanéac and Charly Hübner. "Transporter: The Series" is a French-Canadian production, and was originally slated to air in the U.S. on Cinemax, though they ended up passing on the project -- a trailer that was released at the time but has since been taken down didn't look particularly promising. The first season has since aired in Canada,

Kick-Ass 2, 2 Guns, Planes: this week's new films

Kick-Ass 2 | 2 Guns | Planes | The Big City | Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Again | Bachelorette | Call Girl | Aftershock | Kuma | When The Dragon Swallowed The Sun

Kick-Ass 2 (15)

(Jeff Wadlow, 2013, Us/UK) Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Moretz, Jim Carrey, 103 mins

The amateur Avengers return, though the sequel finds them weighed down by their superhero lifestyles, or is it audience expectations? The ingredients that made the first movie such a pleasure are all here – absurd alter-egos, ultraviolence, high-school angst, swearing – just minus the element of surprise. As a result, this incident-packed story struggles to recapture that balance between comic-book zaniness and real-world teen comedy.

2 Guns (15)

(Baltasar Kormákur, 2013, Us) Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg, Paula Patton. 109 mins

Two double-crossed undercover agents must unravel a convoluted conspiracy (and learn to get along, of course) in what could almost be a Lethal Weapon reboot. Washington and Wahlberg spark off each other nicely, which is all that's needed.

Q&A with Aftershock Director Nicolás López

Aftershock was released to Blu-ray and DVD this week, and we were given the opportunity to submit questions to director Nicolás López. In our latest Q&A feature, Nicolás López talks about working with Eli Roth, practical effects, and his thoughts on The Green Inferno:

Now that Aftershock has seen a theatrical and VOD release in the Us, are you happy with how the movie has been received by horror fans?

Nicolás López: It’s very exciting to know that people from all around the world are watching the movie on VOD, DVD or…pirated, and being able to have a direct dialogue with the fans (and haters) on twitter and instagram (@nicolaslopez) is awesome. I love every reaction. Love or hate. I just want the people to watch the movie.

Instead of a typical disaster, Aftershock is infused with horror elements. Was this something you always planned

New on DVD and Blu-ray: 'Oblivion' and More

This week: Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman make an "effective team" in director Joseph Kosinski's eye-popping sci-fi think piece "Oblivion," which also stars Olga Kurylenko, Melissa Leo and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Also new this week is Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper in the intense crime drama "The Place Beyond the Pines," the infuriating documentary "West of Memphis" and the earth-shatteringly stupid horror flick "Aftershock" starring Eli Roth.

Box Office: $89 million

Rotten Tomatoes: 54% Rotten

Storyline: "Tron: Legacy" helmer Joseph Kosinski directs this sci-fi film starring Tom Cruise as Jack Harper, the lone security repairman stationed on a ruined Earth. Jack believes that after a long battle with alien invaders, the surviving humans were forced to abandon the planet and he will join them shortly. But when Jack rescues a beautiful stranger (Olga Kurylenko) who crash-lands in her spacecraft, her arrival triggers a series of events that causes Jack

Aftershock | Review

shockingly disastrous events that occur in the latter part of the film. Gringo (Eli Roth) has traveled from California to Chile to visit his friend, Ariel (Ariel Levy). Ariel's best friend Pollo (Nicolás Martínez) is one of the most connected people in the Chilean party scene, so Gringo finds himself bouncing from one hot party to the next. The three men have one mission: to hook up with the finest of Chilean ladies. On one fateful night, the three guys finally hit their stride with three beautiful women: Irina (Natasha Yarovenko), Kylie (Lorenza Izzo) and Monica (Andrea Osvárt). Everything is going fantastic, until the earthquake. This is when López's film rapidly transforms itself into the natural disaster film that you are probably expecting; but López actively avoids aping the genre, intent to comment upon its tropes and integrate as many horror elements as possible. López blurs the concept of the hero,

‘Aftershock’ Review

Stars: Nicolás Martínez, Eli Roth, Ariel Levy, Lorenza Izzo, Natasha Yarovenko, Andrea Osvárt | Written by Nicolás López, Guillermo Amoedo | Directed by Nicolás López

Horror fanboy turned writer/director Eli Roth (Hostel) returns to the screen both behind and in-front of the camera, as co-writer and star of Aftershock. Billed as a horror movie, the film borrows heavily from the 70s disaster movie genre, in particular the Irwin Allen school of filmmaking and his famous flicks The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure.

Whilst the film borrows from the likes of Irwin Allen and 70s disaster flicks, it also suffers from the same problems in that the set-up just takes too damn long. Aftershock spends a good third of the movie following around its leads – Gringo (Roth), Pollo (Martinez) and Ariel (Levy) – as they party it up in Chile, trying to meet girls and all the while getting more and more intoxicated…
