In the early days of the Second World War, Lord Louis Mountbatten was Captain of the Royal Navy destroyer, HMS Kelly. While he was Captain, Kelly was torpedoed off Norway (May 1940), towed to Britain for repairs, then sunk as a result of German bombing off Crete, in May, 1941.
