She started her acting carreer when she was 18 at the theatre of the Spanish writer and poet Frederico Garcia Lorca.
Dramatic stage actress and cabaret singer in France from the early 1950's, singing a mixture of modern songs and Montmartre classics. She was awarded the Légion d'Honneur; she was also a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres and was three times awarded the Grand Prix du Disque.
