Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse star Brian Tyree Henry teases an "epic" finale to the Spider-Verse film trilogy as the upcoming animated blockbuster promises to be an emotional watch for audiences.
Speaking with Deadline during the Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire premiere event, Henry kept details about Beyond the Spider-Verse to a premium, as has been the theme during promotion for the upcoming threequel. However, Henry insists Beyond the Spider-Verse's tone will have some audience members shedding tears at different points. "It's in the works, it's coming. It's in the works for sure and that one is even more epic than the last. You know how we do it," he said. "Oh yeah, get your hankies ready. It's gonna go there."

After X-Men '97 revives X-Men: The Animated Series on Disney+, there is a possibility that the same could happen with Spider-Man's 90s cartoon.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series ran for five seasons on Fox Kids from 1994 to 1998. Similar to X-Men: The Animated Series, the Spider-Man show remains very popular with fans, who still carry a nostalgic love for the classic cartoon show. Brad Winderbaum, an X-Men '97 executive producer and the head of animation, streaming and television at Marvel Studios, addressed the possibility in an interview with Agents of Fandom. When asked about revisiting other canceled Marvel shows from the past, like Spider-Man and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Winderbaum teased that it very well could happen after the production of Daredevil: Born Again.

Over a year ago, news surfaced that Amazon is working on a live-action series focused on Spider-Man Noir, a superhero based in 1930s New York City. Unlike the usual Spider-Man tales, this series will spotlight an older, more seasoned character distinct from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the show will carve its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project has attracted attention from industry veterans, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. With Uziel’s credentials from films like “22 Jump Street” and 2021’s “Mortal Kombat,” the series adds promising talent. This initiative falls in line with Amazon’s Marvel character-focused projects, such as “Silk: Spider Society.”
Recently, we reported Nicolas Cage’s interest in portraying Spider-Man Noir. In a recent interview with Collider at SXSW, the acclaimed actor confirmed his interest:

More than a year ago we learned that Amazon is set to produce a live-action series centered around Spider-Man Noir, a superhero set in 1930s New York City. Unlike the traditional Spider-Man story, this series will focus on an older, more weathered character, quite different from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the show will have its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project so far involves notable names from the industry, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. It's still 2024, but the 2020s have already offered a range of weird, mind-boggling movies for those looking for something out of the ordinary. Beyond filmmakers known for their unorthodox approach, such as David Lynch, Yorgos Lanthimos, and David Cronenberg, there are many up-and-coming filmmakers determined to cause discomfort and surprise viewers with stories that challenge one's perception of the conventional.
By winning the prestigious Best Picture Award in 2023, Everything Everywhere All at Once proved that there's a space for the absurd among the standard type of movie audiences are used to watching. The success of the film certainly inspired filmmakers to come forward with their weirdest ideas while simultaneously prompting viewers to look for fresh movies beyond what the major studios deliver every year.

To say that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was great would be a major understatement, as it greatly impacted how major studios perceived 3D animation. Following its impeccable quality, accompanied by a great story, arguably the best of all Spider-Man features. the Shameik Moore-led film was deservedly awarded the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
And with its sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, being on par with the first one, it seemed like another Academy win awaited the IP, but it fell inches short of Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. Reacting to this loss, lead star Moore took to social media to share a one-word response “Robbed”, which landed him in hot waters, and the actor has finally broken his silence amidst the backlash.

It had been more than two decades since Hayao Miyazaki won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, having first taken home gold with 2002’s Spirited Away. Until this year, he only saw just two more nominations, with Howl’s Moving Castle and The Wind Rises losing out to Wallace & Gromit and Elsa & Anna. But this past weekend, at 83, Miyazaki once again came out victorious, edging out the likes of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Pixar’s Elemental. While many of us cheered the achievement, there was one sourpuss who thought the movie he starred in was “robbed”.
Shameik Moore, who voiced Miles Morales / Spider-Man in Across the Spider-Verse, took to social media on the night of the Academy Awards to say that his movie was “*robbed”, prompting followers to call out the arrogance of the comment. As such, Moore addressed the response soon after, admitting he was bitter. “Respect to the winners.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producer Chris Miller claps back strongly at Jimmy Kimmel following Kimmel's "lazy" joke about animation while hosting the 96th Academy Awards.
Posting on X, Miller responded to Kimmel's jibe, which came while the late-night talk show introduced the Best Animated Feature category during the Oscars. As he spoke about the category, in which Miller's Across the Spider-Verse was a contender, Kimmel asked, "Please raise your hand if you let your kid fill out this part of the ballot." The Across the Spider-Verse co-writer refused to let Kimmel spin a damaging narrative against animation, saying that animation is "a medium for people and that medium is film," and added that the joke is, "Just a reminder a propos of nothing." Miller then clarified that the "nothing" addressed Kimmel's assertion that animation is for kids, calling the joke and trope, "tired and lazy."

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse star Shameik Moore has apologized for his reaction to the film’s loss at the 2024 Oscars.

Moore, who voices Miles Morales (aka Spider-Man) in the franchise, immediately took to X (formerly known as Twitter), where he posted that the film was “robbed.”
He received many replies that noted that the Sony animated movie lost to a critically acclaimed film made by a “legend.” Other comments echoed those remarks, asking Moore to respect Miyazaki’s work.

Hayao Miyazaki's "The Boy and the Heron" has won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Like when his film "Spirited Away" took home the Best Animated Feature Oscar in 2003, Miyazaki himself wasn't there to accept the award in person tonight.
This was a bit of an upset: "The Boy and the Heron" is rightfully acclaimed, but it had a worthy challenger in "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse," which won Best Animated Feature at the 51st Annie Awards this February (the Annies are focused exclusively on animation). Christopher Miller, one of the writers and producers of "Across the Spider-Verse," took his Oscars defeat in good humor, posting on X/Twitter: "Well, if you're gonna lose, might as well lose to the Goat [greatest of all time]."

As we wind down this year’s Oscar season, we at Gold Derby are already looking forward to next year’s. Clearly, we can’t get enough. But next year’s Academy Awards season could also concern this year’s as the Oscars afterglow effect could be in full force. Actors can often garner a quick follow-up nomination after breaking through in the nominations list the year prior. Eddie Redmayne accomplished this when he followed up his 2015 Best Actor win for “The Theory of Everything” with a 2016 Best Actor bid for “The Danish Girl.” Similarly, Octavia Spencer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress two years in a row — in 2017 for “Hidden Figures” and in 2018 for “The Shape of Water.” So, which of these year’s acting nominees could return next year? Let’s take a look.

(Welcome to Animation Celebration, a recurring feature where we explore the limitless possibilities of animation as a medium. In this edition: season 3 of "Clone High" and "Jellystone!")
Animation fans (and fans of good movies regardless of style) have been thrust into an emotional tornado spinning as wildly as the Tasmanian Devil regarding the release of director Dave Green ("Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows") and writer Samy Burch's ("May December") live-action/animated hybrid Looney Tunes courtroom flick, "Coyote vs. Acme." What should be an absolute no-brainer hit at the box office is at risk of being scrapped for a tax write-off despite positive test screenings, the result of yet another frustrating corporate decision prioritizing capitalism over creativity, and an all-out attack on the art of filmmaking.
Of course, you realize, this means war.

Writer John Semper Jr. is poking some fun at Sony over leaving him out of the credits of the animated Spider-Verse movies.
Airing for five seasons from 1994 to 1998, Spider-Man: The Animated Series was written by John Semper Jr. The popular series notably introduced the "Spider-Verse" concept in its series finale, which has since been further explored in a variety of Spider-Man projects. That includes the animated Spider-Verse series of films, which consists of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and the upcoming threequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The first two installments did not feature Semper's name in the credits, and the writer pointed this out with a post on X, which was in response to the news of the Spider-Verse producers getting honored at the Producers Guild Awards.

Chris Miller, one co-writer behind the Spider-Verse franchise, has criticized the NBA's innovative AI system which is designed to provide viewers with the experience of watching NBA games in an animated film style.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently unveiled a demonstration of the NBA app's AI system that used Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's iconic art style. Chris Miller criticized the NBA for not seeking permission or making any effort to reach out to Sony or it's creatives before adopting the style of the animated movie. Miller also reviewed the AI's art style, calling it incomparable to the innovative artistry of the Spider-Verse films.

Nicolas Cage may reprise his role from Into the Spider-Verse in the upcoming Spider-Man Noir series. Hollywood insider publication The Ankler reports that the actor is “in serious talks to take on the lead role” in the untitled show, which Amazon ordered from Sony Pictures Television last year.
Cage voiced Spider-Man Noir in the 2018 animated film Into the Spider-Verse (although his character did not appear in the 2023 sequel Across the Spider-Verse). Taking inspiration from the Spider-Man who appears in the Marvel Noir comics, Cage’s character is a hardboiled Peter Parker from an alternate (and monochromatic) universe, with the mannerisms of a 30s-era Hollywood detective.
Just under one year ago, news broke that Sony was partnering with Prime Video for a live-action Spider-Man Noir series set in New York City circa 1930s. As originally reported by Variety, the untitled project features an “older, grizzled superhero,” is set in an alternate universe,...

The stars and artists behind the biggest films of 2023 descended on London this weekend for the BAFTA Film Awards. British film’s biggest night is often seen as the best predictor of Oscar momentum before the Academy Awards and the results often mirror each other.
If that’s the case this year, it will be all “Oppenheimer” all the time. Universal’s Christopher Nolan epic took home many of the night’s biggest categories, winning the top prize of Best Film along with Best Director for Nolan, Leading Actor for Cillian Murphy, and Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. The film also picked up major craft wins for Cinematography, Editing, and Original Score.

In recent months, Nicolas Cage has been open about his wish to retire from movies. But he’s also said that doesn’t mean he’s going to stop acting, and he’s demonstrated a desire to try episodic TV, which he’s never done before. Now, an intriguing report from The Ankler suggests he might have found his vehicle, a live-action Spider-Man Noir show. Cage memorably voiced the characters, a 1940s film noir-style version of Spidey in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Cage is also a massive fan of the classic noir actor Humphrey Bogart, with him once doing an extended Bogey impersonation in his Paul Schrader film Dog Eat Dog. Perhaps this would give him the opportunity to go full-on into the noir genre. It’s an intriguing possibility.

Over a year ago, it was revealed that Amazon was gearing up to produce a live-action series centered on Marvel’s Spider-Man Noir, a superhero entrenched in 1930s New York City. Diverging from the typical Spider-Man narrative, this series would spotlight an older, more rugged character distinct from Peter Parker. Spearheaded by Oren Uziel, the show promised to carve its own niche within the Marvel universe, with Uziel assuming roles as both writer and executive producer.
The endeavor attracted attention from industry luminaries like producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Uziel, celebrated for his contributions to films such as ’22 Jump Street’ and the 2021 ‘Mortal Kombat,’ brought his considerable talents to the project. This series was just one in a string of Marvel character-driven endeavors at Amazon, standing alongside ‘Silk: Spider Society.’

Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to star in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show, potentially reprising his role from the animated Spider-Verse movies. Despite previous character change reports, Cage is reportedly in serious negotiations to play the '30s detective version of the Marvel webslinger. Sony has not yet responded to inquiries regarding Cage's involvement in the project, which is still developing.
Despite previous reports indicating a change in character for the project, Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to star in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show. Cage first brought the alternate version of the Marvel hero to life in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, serving as one of the many variants who helped Miles Morales in his early days of becoming a hero. Though Noir appeared in the final moments of Across the Spider-Verse, archival audio was used for Cage's return, ultimately setting up a proper role in Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Oscar Droughts: How Long Will Bradley Cooper and Diane Warren Have to Wait for Their Academy Awards?
“Always a bridesmaid, never the bride” certainly applies to the plight of 19 of this year’s longest-suffering Academy Award nominees. Spanning all 23 categories, these actors, filmmakers and artisans — including actor Annette Bening, filmmaker Wes Anderson and costume designer Jacqueline West — share a peculiar bond. Collectively, they have racked up an impressive 107 Oscar nominations over the years without once stepping onto the Dolby Theatre stage to deliver an acceptance speech. By comparison, living titans Daniel Day-Lewis, Frances McDormand, Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep have together garnered 47 bids and taken home 13 trophies.
The 96th ceremony may not change the narrative for many of these perennial favorites. Bening, on her fifth nod for “Nyad,” and Mark Ruffalo, rocking out with his fourth mention for “Poor Things,” find themselves in tight races, with Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) and Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer”) way ahead of them. Furthermore, Bening and Ruffalo’s...

The live-action Miles Morales Spider-Man movie will have to wait until after two upcoming films. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 are the films in question. The wait for Miles Morales' live-action movie makes sense.
The reason why there is still no live-action Miles Morales Spider-Man movie despite the character's popularity has been revealed, and it makes a lot of sense. Miles Morales debuted in the pages of Marvel Comics when Peter Parker died in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" series. Since then, the character has made a name for himself throughout different mediums as someone just as worthy of the Spider-Man moniker as Peter Parker. Since 2018, Miles Morales' popularity has exploded, becoming one of the most popular Marvel heroes, with many begging for a live-action Miles Morales to debut in a Spider-Man film.
