Italian poet and librettist.
Son of Felice Trapassi of Assisi and Francesca Galastri of Bologna.
Educated by Gian Vincenzo Gravina, a jurist who adopted him and prepared him to study law. Gravina led Pietro to change his name from 'Trapassi' to 'Metastasio', the hellenized equivalent, in 1715.
