How to be Deadly is proof that in the right hands, you can make a great movie from a comedy sketch. The film is delightful, clever, and very funny.
Normally, the phrase – feature length comedy based off a YouTube persona – does not inspire confidence. After all, movies based on Saturday Night Live skits are usually worse than movies based on video games. How to Be Deadly is a welcome exception to this rule. The film joins Wayne’s World and The Blues Brothers as one of the few comedies that are better than their source material.
How to Be Deadly, based on the 2012 short film of the same name, is the story of Donnie Dumphy (Leon Parsons), a fictional cult hero, Canadian YouTube sensation, and the LeBron James of mini bike riding. Throughout the film
Murdoch Mysteries and Dragon’s Den are the clear no-brainers of the situation, but we’ve got a full list, plus some pretty hot new efforts.
Schitt’s Creek will be coming your way, a show co-created by Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, who star with Catherine O’Hara, and that ought to be all you need to know about this one. Also added to the schedule is new show Strange Empire. Reportedly a very dark show, it takes place in western frontier town and follows the women who find themselves stranded when all the men suddenly disappear.

Gist: Spivet is a 12 year-old prodigy with a passion for cartography and scientific inventions. One day, he receives an unexpected call from the Smithsonian museum telling him that he is the winner of the very prestigious Baird prize for his discovery of the perpetual motion machine and that he is invited to a reception where he is expected to give a speech. Without telling anyone, he sets out on a freight train across the U.S.A. to reach Washington DC. Cast includes Helena Bonham Carter, Judy Davis, Rick Mercer and Callum Keith Rennie.
Prediction: This promises to be more along the vein of Amelie (which the festival Gilles Jacob regretfully passed up on when it was offered to the Croisette in an uncompleted form) and though Jeunet doesn’t make regular appearances at the festival (his first was 95′s The City of Lost Children
Director: Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Writer(s): Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant
Producer(s): Frédéric Brillion and Gilles Legrand

Cast: Helena Bonham Carer (T.S.’s mom), Callum Keith Rennie as his dad, Judy Davis as the head of the Smithsonian, along with Rick Mercer, Niamh Wilson, Robert Maillet, Jakob Davies, and Dominique Pinon.
A cousin of sorts to Scorsese’s Hugo (same 3D team worked on both features), Jeunet appears to be the go-to guy for rich, fable-like worlds full of childlike wonder. After conquering adults that are still young at heart with Amelie (less so with A Very Long Engagement) Jeunet did an admirable job merging goofiness, surrealism and politics with Micmacs, and our thinking is Reif Larsen’s novel should play out well in a 3D scapes.
Gist: Based on the bestselling Reif Larsen novel The Selected Works of T.
Unlike the spectacle we saw at the public broadcaster's fall upfronts, the presentation for the midseason schedule was much more subdued, but that doesn't mean it was any less extravagant. The media milled around with the talent, and it was a little unnerving sitting behind Rick Mercer, new "Best Recipes Ever" host Christine Tizzard, beside the cast of "Mr. D," and across from David Sutcliffe (Rory's dad! Oh, and the star of the upcoming "Cracked") and Murdoch himself, Yannick Bisson. But that's CBC's charm, showcasing the best and brightest stars while making content key.

Perhaps most notably, our Canuck quest for global TV domination continued to gain momentum with homegrown shows like "Rookie Blue,""Todd and the Book of Pure Evil,""Lost Girl" and "Republic of Doyle" steadily growing their international audiences around the world (and we also reinforced the global stereotype that Canadians are an attractive bunch, with the likes of Anna Silk, Missy Peregrym and Allan Hawco representing us on the world stage).
Since it’s that time of year (yes, list time), we've compiled a list of the top 11 most memorable moments in Canadian TV this year.
FX has picked up Charlie Sheen's Anger Management sitcom for 10 episodes. But in a bold move, they're committed to a full 100 episodes if it hits a certain ratings target. Making a long-term commitment to Charlie Sheen's employability takes big brass ones.

Spain has censored all of Eva Longoria's lesbian scenes from Without Men, about a town where all the men are forcibly conscripted into a guerilla army and the women make do.
Today in incredibly unnecessary sequel news, work has begun on a Dumb & Dumber sequel starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, with the Farrelly brothers directing.
Lance Bass is reportedly planning to produce the play Hollywood Whores, with Kirstie Alley playing the pimp. I'm unclear from the write-ups if the whores are male or female, or a mixture of both.

Thrush won the Best Actress in a Drama prize for her role as an alcoholic mother living on the fictional Blackstone Indian reserve, and the star used her acceptance speech to remember Tootoosis, who died in July.
She told the audience at the ceremony in Toronto, Canada, "About 23 years ago when I began acting, there weren't a lot of brown faces on television and Gordon was one of a handful. He urged me as a teenager to get into acting."
Other winners at the annual TV awards included Tracy Dawson, who was named Best Actress in a Comedy, for Call Me Fitz, Callum Keith Rennie (Best Actor in a Drama, for Shattered) and Peter Keleghan (Best Actor in a Comedy, for 18 to Life).
Call Me Fitz was a big winner at the awards ceremony - it landed six other honours including Best Director and Best Writing. The Borgias landed the Best Drama Series prize, while the Rick Mercer Report was named Best Comedy Series.
