There have been many villains throughout Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s run. Aside from monster of the week-style evils who only stuck around for a week, there were some big bads that had season-long arcs. Characters such as The Master (Mark Metcalf) in Season 1, Mayor Wilkins (Harry Groener) in Season 3, and more. Some villains just stick around in the heads of fans. The “Angel” cast will celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary with a panel at New York Comic-Con this fall. Well, minus Angel himself, that is.

On Tuesday, NYCC announced a reunion has been set with stars Charisma Carpenter, James Marsters, J. August Richards, Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker for the fan convention, which runs October 3-6. Noticeably absent from that lineup is David Boreanaz, who played the titular vampire detective on the Joss Whedon-created “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” spinoff.

Boreanaz previously hinted during a March appearance on “The Talk” there was something brewing for “Angel’s” upcoming 20th anniversary in October, but he told TheWrap last month that he didn’t “know what’s going to happen.”

And now we finally get to the best one of all. The true peak of Buffy. The Season where it truly was at its finest hour.

After a shaky Season Four, Buffy returned in style for its fifth season, constructing 22 episodes full of strong characters, a brilliant arc, heartbreaking moments and some of the best hours that the show ever produced. Whilst all the previous Seasons of Buffy had numerous good qualities, it’s fifth just seemed to have everything. From the intense, gripping story-arc of Season Two, to the consistently brilliant episodes of Season Three, to the superb stand-alone hours of Season Four, Season Five is an example of a show at full throttle. It’s brimming with confidence, it knows exactly where it’s taking the story – and explores new routes for our characters that we didn’t even think we’d see.

So, what makes Season Five so great?...

One of the things that mark out both Buffy's fourth season and Angel's first is the cross-over episode. Even miles apart, it's inevitable that the paths of the former lovers will somehow cross, and the first instance of this comes only three episodes into the new run. Bridging the link between the two are a shiny bauble of vampire immortality, Oz, and a returning Spike, who's naturally on the hunt for this piece of valuable bling.

It's interesting to look at these two episodes again, back to back. Despite containing some of the familiar Buffy characters, monsters and perilous situations, it's clear that Angel's pitching towards a slightly older audience. Whereas Buffy The Vampire Slayer stays on the slower path and continues its gradual look at the perils of growing up, Angel impatiently leapfrogs the latter teenage years, headlong into the 20s. That seems simultaneously like a very long time ago, and not very long ago at all, because time is vast and human brains are small and fallible, but it’s safe to say that in TV years, it’s a pretty long goddamned time.

She wed real estate developer Mark Henderson at the CostaBaja resort in La Paz, Mexico in front of 80 relatives and friends, including best pal and 8 Mile actress Taryn Manning.

Uploading a photo of the newlyweds on her Twitter.com page, the 32 year old wrote, "It's official."

According to People.com, the couple shared its first dance as husband and wife to Tupac Shakur's California Love. The bride wore a Monique Lhuillier gown.

Mercedes McNab, who played high school student-turned-bloodsucker Harmony Kendall on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997 to 2003), wed real estate developer Mark Henderson in La Paz, Mexico, on Saturday. "It's official!" the actress, who also starred on Buffy spin-off Angel until 2004, Tweeted, alongside a snapshot of the couple sharing a newlywed smooch. I love that Mercedes McNab graduated from "Girl Scout" to a name role, Amanda "I'm going to be an actress!" Buckman' in the sequel Addams Family Values (1993) where she squared off with Christina Ricci again in that movie's most memorable plot thread.

Medium Raw aka Medium Raw: Night of the Wolf is a Canadian shot horror film. This feature was shown on television in 2010, with Anchor Bay Entertainment set to release this title on DVD August 16th. The film retells the ancient German legend of Little Red Riding Hood with a twist. Horror is always great for twist endings. Actor John Rhys-Davies is under utilized in his role and the updating of this children's tale is enhanced by the costume department. As well, Medium Raw introduces not one villain, but four. This is a slow building horror title, with some interesting action sequences in the final scenes.

This is the second film which has offed actor John Rhys-Davies in the first quarter of the film. The other film was Ferocious Planet (2011) and here Rhys-Davies plays Elliot Carbon.

Anchor Bay Entertainment will release Medium Raw aka Medium Raw: Night of the Wolf on DVD August 16th. This horror tale borrows some of the mythology of Little Red Riding Hood, with references to a wolf, and a wolf shaped mask. Children go missing and one man is responsible. His date with the electric chair is interrupted when the power goes out and the killers run the ward. This worst case scenario stars John Rhys-Davies (Ferocious Planet), Mercedes McNab (Hatchet) and William B. Davis. Kill the lights and invite a killer into your living room in just a few weeks! Leonard Karlsson, convicted for an unspecified crime against a minor is released on parole after five years. Horribly disfigured by other inmates whilst in prison, his face horribly mutilated, he seeks revenge on the 12 jurors who convicted him.

Michael Nickles’ film is a fairly standard horror flick, that while not reinventing the wheel, does come up with flashes of invention within a tried and tested formula.

The opening credits deal with both Karlsson’s crime, conviction and the attack on his person. Glitchy, stylistic, it never specifies exactly what he was accused of, or even if he was guilty. A character later refers to him as a “baby fucker”, but none of the jurors ever discuss the case. It’s a canny decision, preventing unneccesary exposition and...

An opening montage sets up the plot of Twelve (aka Xii), although not in a particularly substantial or satisfying way. Leonard Karlsson is a man convicted (rightfully or wrongly) of an unspecified crime involving children and, whilst in prison, his face is mutilated by fellow inmates. Upon release Leonard decides to kidnap and skin the faces of the twelve jurors who sealed his fate, replicating the torture he received.

After the somewhat dark opening montage and credits the tone shifts to a happy ‘just married’ couple driving out of Vegas. Suddenly a truck pulls up alongside side them and a shotgun blast blows up the groom’s head. Splatter fans beware though as after this early scene the gorier sequences are held back until the final act. Since 1994, the year of his death, the man’s standing has rocketed from world-class comedian to almost mythic status. Some argue he was a prophet. Matthew Harlock and Paul Thomas’ energetic documentary incorporates pain-staking animation and took the film-makers almost three years to complete. More of a celebration than a warts-and-all character study it shines as a brilliant memorial to a completely unique talent.

First Look Studios is an independent movie company based in Century City, California, with over a thousand titles in their film catalogue. This studio specializes in DVD and television and was previously a subsidiary of the now dissolved Ventura Distribution. One of First Look's latest titles is the straight to DVD Jeffery Scott Lando directed Thirst. The film was released on this format June 22nd and this film stars the very recognizable Lacey Chabert ("Party of Five"). Chabert is no longer an awkward adolescent, but a full grown women as the first scene suggests. Thirst is an important entry in the survivalist horror genre for showing the brutality of California's desert. The film is also important for showing man's or, from a reductionist viewpoint, a person's gene's survivalist tendencies.

Hatchet DVD PosterThe Blu-Ray special features for Adam Green's (Frozen) Hatchet have been revealed. The Blu-Ray moves to stores September 7th and many of the extras on the DVD of the film will be carried over to the Blu-Ray disc. The Blu-Ray will be available on Dolby True HD 5.1 Surround Sound and Green will give his thoughts on the shoot along with star Kane Hodder (Dead Noon, Horror). Some other highlights included are a making of featurette entitled "The Making of Hatchet" and a short clip called "Guts and Gore," which will show off some of the special effects from the production. Dread Central's Johnny Butane has described the film as "a very well done slasher film." The first trailer for Thirst was released earlier this week and now First Look Studios has released a full clip for the featured entitled "The Accident." In this short clip the central characters joke and laugh until crashing in to the dunes. Everyone survives, temporarily, as Ashcroft, British Columbia substitutes for the deadly and vast Mojave Desert of California. Have a look at this clip inside until the film releases on DVD June 22nd.
