Lido at Your Door: Venice Film Festival’s Sala Web Offers 11 Title Slate

While a Venetian touch (gondolas, art, architecture, margherita pizzas) certainly adds to the charm of the Venice Film Festival experience, for a third year straight, cinephiles can skip the packing their suitcases portion of a trip and bring the Lido into their own screening rooms. Venice Biennale’s Sala Web has reteamed with Festival Scope folks to offer an appetite whetting total of eleven features (8 Orizzonti section & 3 Biennale College – Cinema). Announced yesterday, digital tickets for the Sala Web screenings (4€ each) can be grabbed at www.boxoffice.festivalscope.com – but don’t throw your popcorn into the microwave just yet. The 2014 sampling of world cinema/72nd Venice Film Fest is only available during a period of 5 days beginning at 9 pm (Italian time) on the day of each film’s official presentation.

'Footballers' Wives' star Cristian Solimeno and 'Torchwood' actress Amy Manson are among the new cast members who have began shooting 'Raw' series five in Dublin. The British stars join returning cast members Aisling O'Sullivan, Charlene McKenna, Damon Gameau, Keith McErlean, Tara Lee, Sam Keeley, Kelly Gough and Ger Ryan on the Octagon Films/Ecosse Films production for RTÉ.

McErlean & Harper Ready For 'Rebel City Rumble'

Production is to commence in Cork City of a new feature film aptly entitled 'Rebel City Rumble' next Spring. The rock'n'roll gangster romance from Peachy Vision will star Keith McErlean (Goldfish Memory) and rock musician/actor Roy Harper (Made). Director John Burns (Assistant Director, Once) and Stephen Lourdes, wrote the script for the film, which sees a bank robbery go terribly wrong for Ryan, played by Keith McErlean. The event leads to a series of bizarre events for Ryan, which includes meeting the feisty, troubled girl of the piece, Roxy. The part of Roxy has not yet been cast.

Delaney & Plunkett Join Cast of 'Raw'

Production is currently underway on the third series of Dublin restaurant drama, 'Raw'. The Ecosse Film/Octagon Films co-production started shooting at the end of August and cameras will continue rolling until the end of November. The third installment of the drama sees the return of Ifta winner Charlene McKenna (Whistleblower), Aisling O’Sullivan (The Clinic), Keith McErlean (Bachelors' Walk) and Ger Ryan (Whistleblower; Family) alongside cast newcomers Padraic Delaney (Perrier’s Bounty) and Marcella Plunkett (Once).

David Pearse & Keith McErlean Know 'Trivia'

Production is underway on Grand Pictures' new comedy/drama series for RTÉ entitled 'Trivia'. The cast includes David Pearse (Happy Ever Afters), Keith McErlean (Swansong: The Story of Occi Byrne), Janice Moran and Olivia Caffrey (Conspiracy of Silence). The series, which will shoot in Celbridge for the next five weeks, is written by Damien Owen's in his TV debut. The show is being directed by 'Wide Open Spaces' helmer Tom Hall and produced by Paul Donovan (The Race). 'Trivia's director of photography is Ivan McCullough (The Eclipse).

Irish Talent Nominated for Monte Carlo TV Fest

Irish television productions 'Killinaskully', 'Raw' and 'The Tudors' along with 'The It Crowd' creator by Graham Linehan and 'Merlin' actors' Colin Morgan and Katie McGrath have all be nominated for 49th Monte Carlo Television Festival taking place from 7 – 11 June 2009. Both Michael Parke, producer of 'Raw', and 'The Tudors' producers Morgan O'Sullivan and Michael Hirst have received nominations in the Outstanding International Producer and Outstanding European Producer categories. For Outstanding Actor – Drama, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors), Peter O'Toole (The Tudors), Keith McErlean (Raw) and Armagh actor Colin Morgan (Merlin) have all received nods while in the Actress section Charlene McKenna (Raw), Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Tudors) and Katie McGrath (Merlin) are up for the award.

Interview: McKenna Returns to 'Raw'

The second series of the restaurant based drama 'Raw', produced by Octagon Films and Ecosse Films, is currently filming in and around Dublin and Wicklow. Actress Charlene McKenna, who won an Ifta for her role in the first series, chats to Iftn on what's in store for her character Jojo Harte. Series two of 'Raw' will continue to explore the heated and personal relationships that emerge between staff at a thriving Dublin restaurant. Actors Charlene McKenna (Pure Mule), Liam Garrigan (Holby City), Keith McErlean (Bachelor's Walk) and Damon Gameau (Razzle Dazzle) are all returning to the series with new cast to include 'The Clinic' actress Aisling O'Sullivan. Directors for the second series are David Caffrey (Divorcing Jack), Nick Renton (Little White Lie) and Simon Massey (Skins).
