George Mallory was born on 18 June 1886 in Mobberly, England, UK. He was previously married to Ruth Thackeray Turner. He died on 8 June 1924 in North Col on Mount Everest, Tibet.
Died on Mount Everest during a severe blizzard. On May 1, 1999, his
frozen, preserved body was discovered by mountaineer Conrad Anker, almost
exactly 5 weeks prior to the 75th anniversary of his death. His final
venture to Everest was his third and ended up the highest he had ever
climbed (approximately 8,300 meters).
Gradually, very gradually, we saw the great mountain sides and glaciers and aretes, now one fragment and now another through the floating rifts, until far higher in the sky than imagination had dared to suggest the white summit of Everest appeared.
