Paul Mertz was born on September 1, 1904 in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA as Paul Madeira Mertz. He is known for his work on Smoky River Serenade (1947), You Were Never Lovelier (1942) and It Can't Last Forever (1937). He died on October 19, 1998 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Arranged the music for nearly all of Gene Autry's films.
Pianist and arranger. Began in 1922 as a sideman in the first orchestra fronted by the Dorsey Brothers, the Wild Canaries.
