The Best British TV Show of Last Year Was Not Bodyguard, It Was Informer

One of the UK TV events of the year during 2018 was Bodyguard, a dark six-part drama starring Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes. Over 10 million people watched the finale (that's 15 percent of the entire UK population), and everyone was talking about it. The show was quickly picked up by Netflix in the Us, and won a Golden Globe.

There's no denying that Bodyguard was good, but the runaway success of the series meant that another show that started soon after - and was arguably even better - didn't get the publicity it deserved. Informer hit UK TV screens on Oct. 16, just a couple of weeks after Bodyguard's hyped finale, and those who didn't tune in definitely missed out. Luckily, Informer is just hit Amazon Prime Video, so you don't have to be one of them.

Both shows feature law enforcers working in London, but while Bodyguard centered on a special police officer protecting a politician,

15 Best-Dressed Stars at the Critics' Choice Awards
While fashion looks at the 76th annual Golden Globes were defined by classic Hollywood elegance with a spritz of glitz, the Critics' Choice Awards (held on Sunday at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica) were colored by more fun and plenty of winning fashion risks.

Think bold patterns (Gemma’s florals, Timothee’s brush-stroke print, ombre on Charlize and Mahershala) and the richly colored velvets donned by Milo, Emmy, Richard Madden and more.

Yes, there were a lot of black and white looks, but they made a fresh splash — from Nicole’s sculptural bustier gown to Julia’s glam tux jacket ...

Richard Madden Gave His Parents a Shout-Out at the Golden Globes, and It'll Make You Swoon
Getting bruised, bloodied, and battered in Bodyguard has officially paid off for Richard Madden. After the 32-year-old Scottish actor got tongues wagging with his suave red carpet appearance at the Golden Globes, he hit the stage to accept the award for best actor in a TV drama on Sunday night.

"Thank you very much to the HFPA, I didn't see this coming at all," he began, before thanking his parents (who he noted flew all the way from Scotland for the big night), saying, "I wouldn't be here without you." So sweet!

Madden, who previously starred on Game of Thrones, made a splash in Netflix's UK-set thriller, which went from a sleeper hit to a serious awards contender over the past few months. In it, Madden plays a veteran with Ptsd who's assigned to protect a controversial politician who has received negative attention for her controversial policies. Fortunately the

‘The Americans’ is the 1st Golden Globe series champ without a matching acting win in 7 years

‘The Americans’ is the 1st Golden Globe series champ without a matching acting win in 7 years

It did not win either of its acting categories, for Emmy champ Matthew Rhys or Keri Russell, making it the first show to take home a series Globe without a corresponding acting award since “Modern Family” in 2012.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association often likes to pair its series wins with an acting award. For the previous six years, all of its drama and comedy/musical series champs saw at least one of its actors triumph.

2018: “The Handmaid’s Tale” and Elisabeth Moss; “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and Rachel Brosnahan

2017: “The Crown” and Claire Foy; “Atlanta” and Donald Glover

2016: “Mr. Robot” and Christian Slater; “Mozart in the Jungle” and Gael Garcia Bernal

Doctor Who And Jodie Whittaker Nominated For National Television Awards

Season 11 of Doctor Who seriously split the fandom, but the show itself and its lead actress Jodie Whittaker have nonetheless found themselves on the shortlist of nominations for this year’s National Television Awards, a British awards ceremony voted for entirely by the UK public.

Doctor Who‘s naturally up for the Best Drama gong, facing stiff competition from the best of British TV. Specifically, military drama Our Girl, heartwarming period piece Call the Midwife, medical soap opera Casualty and transatlantic hit Peaky Blinders.

The Thirteenth Doctor herself, Jodie Whittaker, is up for Best Drama Performance, which is open to both actors and actresses. Funnily enough, one of the competitors shares her name – Jodie Comer, who plays Villanelle in Killing Eve. The rest of the nominations are filled by Our Girl‘s Michelle Keegan, Peaky Blinders‘ Cillian Murphy and Bodyguard star Richard Madden.

Golden Globes: 9 Things You Didn’t See on TV
The reason that the Golden Globes are often billed as Hollywood’s best party is that it’s really the only awards show that feels like a fun wedding with tons of celebrity guests. The 76th edition of the ceremony held on Sunday night included its share of left-field surprises — such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” winning best picture, drama, over “A Star is Born” — but inside the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the trophies almost feel like an afterthought.

The actors in attendance drink, get up, mingle, and hang out at an outdoor smoking balcony just at the back of the room. The fact that there’s so much background noise on TV isn’t an accident. The guests, particularly those not seated by the stage, are too busy talking to each to other to actually watch the show. Here are the nine biggest secrets from inside the ballroom that
