On 17th September 2008, Tara MacGowran conducted the official opening of Cohan's Bar in Cong, County Mayo, where "The Quiet Man" was filmed in 1951.
Tara MacGowran wrote an article entitled "Two Weeks in Siberia" for the January 2008 issue of British Chess Magazine about the 2007 FIDE World Cup chess tournament in the town of Khanty-Mansiysk in the Ugra region of Siberia, in which her husband, Michael Adams, participated. She also took photographs of the tournament, which appeared in the same issue.
Tara MacGowran lives with her husband, Michael Adams, who is a chess grandmaster and the UK's most highly rated chess player. She often travels with him to chess tournaments. [2008]
